Language / Using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with Polish language [35]

Thankyou, I am having a look now and I am loving the 'Grammar in a nutshell' and it is 95 pages long!!!! glad it isn't a big nutshell :)

If you mean "thinking" in Polish, I'm still a bit of a ways off, but am closer than when I started.

perfect example, looking through the grammar in a nutshell and it says...... 'To jest dom mojego przyjaciela That's the house of my friend', polish way of thinking, sentence construction. My thinking of trying to construct that sentence in my head doesn't have the word 'of' in it at all I would be thinking 'My friend's house'......so in order to say what I need to I am really on a none starter!

I love this language but flippin' 'ek .........been learning for around year now :(

Perhaps, maybe pull a close Polish friend to the side and tell them, in English or Polish, how you are feeling and ask for their help.

They would to be fair, but I am very, very good at diversion and just smile and talk in english.....I need a bossy Pole :)

Been there, done that Miss Happy!

Tell me ......when do you start to think you are getting it??? is there a point when you feel like you know nothing and then it all starts falling into place?? I really hope so :)

miss happy - you can try taking advice from David Snopek

Thanks :) I have had a look at this and by chance a friend bought me a polish Harry Potter book but I have jut looked and on the first page I only know 81 words out of 153!!! so might be real hard going to read that.....or maybe that is the point!!

Being English you're super critical. A good start is not to be so hard on yourself.

I can't seem to get by the feeling stupid thing and going blank.....I know I have to but............

Thanks all.

Did anyone else find readingas a great way of learning? :)

Language / Using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with Polish language [35]

Dziękuję :)

Thing is I love the language and I spend time everyday learning it and then when faced with talking to someone I can't think what to say.....I forgot how to say how old I was when someone asked me not long ago and I know that of course but I just turn into a rabbit in headlights and I hate it. I find that my polish friends talk to me in polish and I reply in English for fear of getting it wrong!!! how stupid and I now it is stupid. What I need is someone really bossy who won't let me speak in english to them :)

Muszę ćwiczyć :)

Language / Using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with Polish language [35]

I have just realised today..

that trying to make sure that I am using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with this language. When I am thinking what I am trying to say I am too busy concentrating on conugation and declination that I just don't say anything.

I feel that the more I am taught the more I forget :(

Please tell me everyone goes through this as I feel totally lost :(

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Where did you get such a stupid stereotype from?

It's not my stereotype, I don't have to agree, just saying :) The polish folk that I speak to, their friends and in general when I am there, one of the first things that is said to me is that I can't be English as I am not fat :)

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Being female it is aways really difficult to answer a question like this, because if you are slightly negative then you are thought of as just being jealous and your opinion dismised :) but by the end of my post you will see that this is not my point :)

I have a number of Polish female friends all of whom I consider to be beautiful, I have British friends whom I also consider to be beautiful. I have been to Poland many times and seen a number of beautiful women who are alongside the ordinary women who are alongside the 'Oh dear I am sure her Daddy thinks she is beautiful' girls. The exact same can be said for British women.

What I think is the difference here sometimes is belief, the confidence you have in yourself. As a child growing up we are given messages 'glasses are ugly' 'long hair makes you pretty' 'thin is attractive, fat is ugly' 'ginger hair is ugly and horrible' 'men should be tall, dark and handsome' 'women need to have big boobs' 'men need to have huge penis' so.....if you grow up to be a tall dark and handsome man with a large penis that is exactly the way you have been told all your growing life what a man should look like so your confidence is sky high :) and everyone can see that confidence and be drawn to it in equal measure to the attractive looks. However, if you grow up knowing that this is the ideal but you happen to be short, with ginger hair and glasses with an average to smaller size penis then it is going to (potentially) effect the way you see yourself fitting in with the stereotype of percieved beauty, therefore (potentialy) your confidence is lower and because of that you don't portray yourself to your best ablity.

I suppose I am saying beauty on the outside starts with what you believe on the inside. Polish little girls are told they are the most beautiful in the world, they believe it all their growing lives and they have that confidence for when they are women. They are confident and exude that belief which makes the average looking polish woman very attractive ad beautiful :)

Alas, I am British so the stereotype (without knowing me, just based on my nationality) is that I am ugly, fat, don't care about myself and make no effort for my partner.

hammer the grammar. polish is so grammar intensive that if you don't get it down pat, you will struggle forever.that's when you've actually learned a word in Polish

.............

Utterly jealous.....been learning fr a little while and it feels like I will never ever ever get the grammar :(
