Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

Just spent the wknd there...ye, agreed^_^

Am in Katowice currently. Aside from being, er, a (construction) work in progress shall we say, it's begun to grow on me in the less than 3 wks I've been here. Kato isn't exactly a contender for most picturesque city in Poland but u can't fault it for its travel connections or for stuff to do...

Love / Age difference in Dating a Polish - Is it ok for Man 27years to date Polish Lady 39years? [19]

Hi,

Questions...was it just the age difference you saw as an issue? Does your brother want children? As I'm sure you're aware, woman can suffer birth complications the closer to 40 they approach...but this is only a generalisation. Is your brother fully aware of your reservations?

At the end of the day, they're going to do what they're going to to do...regardless. I struggled with acceptance issues in my relationship...so just be supportive, whichever way it goes.

Best, A

Travel / Just visited Poland - here is my random rant [154]

Tell me about it...

13. Poles have been duped by their politicians (well, that affects most of the countries) and now business owners take advantage of the failed policies.

This is one of the things that annoys me the most...

18. Polish weather. It used to be that spring lasted a couple of months and the weather was predictable.

I have NEVER experienced such a difference in weather conditions in so short a space of time...

4. The roads in Poland have significantly improved.

Agreed(: I hope they will maintain them

Thx for the post(:

USA, Canada / Should I move to Poland? (dual citizen of Canada and Poland) [22]

Hi vikkiitoria,

The things I can address in your original post are:

qualifications...my Polish gf studied in Poland and she lived in the UK for about 2 years. She said employers weren't looking at her qualifications very keenly

job...it's not the easiest thing to find a job here in Polska, from accounts given by my students (I've been teaching EFL since last Sep, btw). But you could try to find work as an English teacher (quite a few of the schools here use a method based on repetition, the Direct Method, and as you're a native speaker I would say schools would be keen to have you).

Hope your confusion clears...

p.s. and, no, I have not felt despised since entering this fair land!

Study / Poligloci Language School...Anybody Heard Of Them...? [8]

Well, the boss didn't show up when I went to see him this morning. No apology given. Unprofessional. That's all the info I have on them...look at the rest of this thread for more...

Suppose I was trying to be optimistic. With my current employer I have a contract & was not gonna have any dealings with Michel without agreeing upon one, heck no!

If I do talk with him on Tuesday, I'll ensure I stick to my approach of setting out clear terms & conditions and will make sure I'm firm. I'm well grateful for the timely intel on this, really ^_^

Poligloci...I don't recommend them.

Thank you delphiandomine. My gf translated that link and, yes, it doesn't cast a positive light upon Michel. That thread was from 2005...do u think he might have changed since then? How long ago did u work for him?

Love / Mosque and Catholic Church Wedding in Poland. Is That Possible? [21]

Thank you, Harry. Parents probably won't come here now, I've only just discovered...so may not have the Mosque wedding here but the church one, most likely...

You do raise an interesting point about promises and duress. Opinion seems to be divided on the topic but it's worth me finding out more.

Love / Mosque and Catholic Church Wedding in Poland. Is That Possible? [21]

Hi,

I was brought up Muslim & want to get married to a lovely Polish woman. Parents want an Islamic wedding. Now, we're wondering if a Mosque wedding will be an obstacle to a Catholic Church wedding, i.e. If we're registered as married already, will the Church have a problem/do they have any communication with the Mosques in Poland?

Any insight or help would be well appreciated.

Thx in advance...

Love / Dating Polish Women I'm attracted to. Any Advice? [11]

Chivalry is the way. I have ten years on my Polish gf (she's 27, I'm 37) but she is still quite traditional. Flowers, doors held open, waiting till you're both ready to eat before eating, etc. What I have found is that Polish woman seem to be pretty serious about their relationships. At 43, the object of your attentions will not be wanting to mess about...just be prepared to get quite serious quite quick.

And whatever else you do on your coffee-or-something date, be early or at least on time! Punctuality is highly regarded.

Enjoy(:

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Hi. The Silisea region of Poland would be a good place to start, from my experience. It is not saturated with native speakers, as larger cities tend to be. Can't comment on how strict the rules are, as I imagine these vary from school to school. Hope you find something(:

Study / A Katowice Language School Recommendation, Please? [6]

Hello,

Right now, I'm teaching English as a foreign language in the Silisea region of Poland. My contract ends at the end of June and would like to move to Katowice and teach there this September. Teachingenglishinpoland.com lists a wide range of schools and I want to filter a few of them out; having a recommendation would make all the difference(:

If any of you have had experience of teaching in any language schools in Katowice (perhaps you're currently teaching at one...) or have heard of any decent schools, I would be very grateful if you could say which one(s).

Thank you in advance!

Abdullah
