Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

Or one could just grow a pair and not get bent out of shape over a joke.

Language / Is math in Polish different than in English? [59]

All I know is that they use commas instead of decimal points. When I first went to the grocery I was shocked to find that bread cost 3,000 złots!

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

So thats why our floor is peeling! I thought it was my office chair.

Don't get me started on our flat. In the bathroom hot means cold. There are vents that don't go anywhere. Some of the light switched are backwards. Locks are installed upside down. The tub was caulked over the wallpaper...although I think it might be due to copious amounts of vodka rather than Communism.

Language / "Poles" or "Polish people" - which is better to use? [199]

I use Pole because saying "polish people" is too long. Its like calling Blacks in the states "African Americans". I wouldn't expect someone to call me a Scottish person or an American when they can just say Yank or Mick (or sh*thead).

That being said, I was told that "pollack" just means male Pole and I use it extensively. Is someone playing a mean joke on me?

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

hmmm...I work for myself and have clients in the states, etc. with only a small amount of clients (small like one, so far) in Poland. Pretty sure I'll be alright money-wise but got to wonder what the tax issues are.

History / What was the culture of Poland prior to the advent of Catholicism? [17]

Wow. I just came on here to ask if there was a prevalent worship of the old gods in Poland and this thread is on top. Talk about synchronicity. So...why start a new thread?

Is there any noteworthy return to the old gods in Poland? Are there any groups practicing the worship of Perun, etc.? How about the Germanic gods like Odin, Thor, etc.?

sui generis...I don't know if Poland is considered Slavic but you might want to look en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_mythology and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_mythology.

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

What's the official language of Poland.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

The americans, especially canadians...

Canada is the greatest US state there is.

Study / Studying in Poland in English [35]

How much does a flight cost from the United States of America to go to Poland?

I spent $1200 for a round trip at the end of August. Best money I ever spent.
