Life / Poland's population growth problem [44]

In the PRL period, maternity leave was shorter. besides, at that time the government did not pay social security contributions for women on child raising leave unlike nowadays. These incentives, however, dont suffice to persuade people to enlarge their families.

News / Poland building an empire (instead of a nation)? [67]

Good question, I think Poland has a very close relationship with Germany, most definitely closer than with either the Ukraine or Lithuania.

On the surface it seeems that Poland and Germany have got good relationships with each other, but it is not so. Germany wants to spike Poland's guns with regard to the Swinoujscie gasport by building with the Russians the northstream pipeline above the sea, which will preclude large ships from supplying gas to Świnoujscie. Besides that, they are building a competetive gasport near Świnoujscie with the aim to undercut the Polish gasport. It is so because Germany wants Poland to pay high stakes for gas and oil so that Poland's industry will not threaten Germany's. In Germany labour costs are higher, so the Germans are plotting to offset it by making Poles pay for gas and oil as high stakes as possible. The Russians are also interested in making Poles depended on their gas so its kind of natural that they have entered into collusiion with Germans against Poles.

/the second thing, Germans feel they are the victims of the WWII. It is presumptious of them, but what can you do about it.

Oh yes. It's one thing about Poland - you can save a hell of a lot of money by simply knowing the right person from the right place

Of course, lots of people in Poland achieve what they achieve not because of their skills and qualifications, but because of their connections. This is called cronyism. Its not a virtuous thing.

Secendly, Poles can live cheaply because they know where to buy things cheaply. We can make a living mainly due to cheap goods from China.

Thirdly, some Poles sometimes make money hand over fist, because they have got the connections. That is they are on friendly terms with wójt, sołtys, state agencies or mayors or the like. They buy agricultural land from the commune or municipality cheaply, then it turns out that a road is going to be built next to there plot and then their plots become building land, then they sell it and become rich.

If you want to make real money in Poland, you have to have either the connections, or medicine studies diploma. Having yyour own business is also an option, but it is less lucrative.
