Food / Where can I buy cast iron pans (żeliwne patelnie) in Poland? [19]

found some online, but they are either SKEPPSHULT or Le Creuset...wow the price is just killing me. Anywhere maybe in Warsaw

I think its a world wide problem finding a decent fry pan, I have come to the conclusion that the best fry pan is the De Buyer mineral B pan (made in France) there cheaper than most non stick pans which are just rubbish and overpriced..check it out

UK, Ireland / Getting the most from my hard earned money (transfer money from England to Poland) [41]

but he has an obligation to report the income regardless

Mr D having money in the bank account is not income, I think you are making up a lot of stuff as you go around which is sad because your information is generally good... understand son that Poland has a tax agreement with about 60 countries, which means you cannot be taxed twice ie if you had money in the bank account which has been taxed well thats yours..keep in mind the governments have access to what is in bank accounts etc...the polish tax system has links to peoples tax information for purposes of compliance, I'm not sure if one is obliged to inform the polish tax department everytime he transfers money.. I doubt it but would need to provide verification if so requested...The issue of moving large amounts of money in a suitcase to another country is generally to stop money laundering and people who don't declare have that money taken away. Its interested to note that the Polish government has done nothing to stop the black economy ie people paid cash etc, these same people are usually on some sort of Disability payment..

The state returns my investment through a pension further down the line.

hmm if you think getting 900zl a month is a good pension, then you are easily pleased, you would be better off buying shares or real estate.

Palikot made his money from business transactions, by getting out there and building up his profile

sure but please explain how he got the money?

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

But elementary justice requires that it is accompanied by other religious symbols, equally good.

hmm Poland is 97% catholic... a 97% cross and a 3 % other symbol.... I think thats fair...

Poland is really safe. You don't have to worry too much about idiots causing problems.

hmm, just a thought Seanus... a rich person is a person one of interest for those people who have little and support a drug or alcohol habit... otherwise Poland is as safe as any other country...

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

It is not today`s Poland, doctors make salaries 15000 -30000 zł a month . They really don`t need your gifts .

That's true, doctors are very well off in Poland and hearing stories about people giving a doctor a bottle of whiskey just makes me laugh...unless the doctor wanted to calm his nerves prior to the operation, I don't think the whiskey would have much impact on what he earns....might have been the case in the 60's but not now.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

Doctors take bribes all the time in Poland, never ever known a Doctor or nurse to turn one away. Ive even been to Doctors consultations where they request you leave bags outside, theyre worried you have a camera and will film them taking a bribe

lol... a bit of a general comment hey.. If doctors take bribes you can only assume everyone else takes bribes ie local government (getting planning permits) police etc....I don't think so.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

[quote=Wroclaw]think again. there are plenty of reliable accounts.

may have been common years ago, sure, but things are changing fast in Poland, To be frank its a insult to ones intelligence to hear people saying they need to bribe a doctor etc, doctors are now pretty well off in Poland. I don't deny Poles still give a small gift ie flowers or chocolates, but this is only a gesture of appreciation... The issue of hospitals, sure they do not match those of the west and lack certain things, but Polish doctors are very skilled and on par with the west.

Until then, swallow and either digest or choke on your denial and learn from people's experiences.

Don't come the raw prawn with me, I'm not a supporter of the Polish Health system but all over the world doctors make mistakes, In Poland people don't see doctors for regular check ups and when they are sick they are better off attending the local mortuary than a hospital... Those people who are critical of the hospital system should enquire when there loved one last visited a doctors clinic for a check up!

Then why do you even bother to live in Poland? If Poland is not by your standards why dont you go back??

Thats probally sums it all up, the people who are critical of the health system are mainly non poles, ask them what the health system is like in GB or Ireland.. A person from the US knows that being sick without health insurance is very very expensive indeed. For those critical of the Polish health system a simple solution, stop freeloading on the public system and get private cover full stop. Foreigner4 sorry to say but Poland is not for you with your attitude.

"It is expected that this summer (or even by late autumn), the government will pass a new act granting families financial support for buying a house."

I wonder how much? The governments has been promising a lot, I suppose this will be funded by the EU...

Or does that serve her right for not paying bribes in advance...just in case? Pigsarse.

why pay a bribe if people don't know what there doing...suggest you take out private insurance, by all accounts its types like you who can afford it...in most systems there's always a few flaws but generally speaking its a good system...let those who are critical have a hard look how bad the health system is where they come from... silence is deafening!

for a stubborn spouse you living in a land freaking you dont like...GTF out of poland and live in your canadian shithole. You think the canadian system is better>?why do you guys die to come to USA and live there, get jobs there so you can get paid well?

I take your point but no need for the bad language, it ceases to amaze me the nerve of those people who come to Poland and spend all day complaining about the system, if you don't like it get out The reason why he is staying because he knows hand on heart that life in Poland is good and beats the place he has come from.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

Sorry, it was actually aimed at wielka pan.

Thanks, understand that Poland compares pretty well to medical systems of other countries, keeping in mind that Poland is not as rich as those countries, I'm sure a person living in the Ukraine would view the health system in Poland as excellent, people like you magpie have strange expectations, which I find very annoying. Horror stories in the hosptial system occur everywhere. If you want something better well its only a question of digging a bit deeper in your pocket and forking out. I just find it disgusting that a foreigner would be critical of the public health system, If a pole was critical of the public health system in GB etc he would be told to go back where he came from.

It suggests a person's right to say what they think changes depending on if they are "from" a place or not.

lol... when you came to Poland you must have done your homework and worked out what the medical system was like, options
1. Accept it... 2... take out private cover.3... shake the dust off your shoes and leave.. There are many people who love Poland and or would love to live there. You are pathetic... what right have you being a quest of a country to have such a attitude...

what a shame, I was counting my winnings already... 50% I don't know, certainly not across the board...One thing is for certain is the current economic crisis in the EU is not good and could be a wild card in what happens with the real estate market... I don't think banks will be lending money to people on moderate income in poland to purchase apartments at 600,000zl. If a recession new hits Europe, Poland will not be buffered from it... one can only expect the worse.

wielki pan: you couldn't have chosen a more ironic nickname for yourself

Good example that the pen is mightier than the sword!! Sorry to have stretched the friendship Foreigner4 I have have not attacked you personally, just stating a point of view.. Malpractice in the medical system occurs in every country, theres probally more claims in a country like the United States. I hold my ground in what I have said, like in any other country people who can afford it should take out private cover, everyone knows that Hospitals in Poland are no 5 star hotels, no toilet paper, have to buy your own medications, if fact a lot of people have their meal and bed sheets brought in by family or friends... we all know that... it has always been the case. I don't like hearing people having a one eye opinion of the Hospital system as I don't like people saying Poland has the worst drivers including having ones cars damaged only occurs in that country.

Polish hospitals don't starve anyone. sometimes the food is ok.i've never heard of or seen anyone using their own bedding.

Sure, one of my relatives was in hospital (small town) we had to change her sheets and bring additional food not a nice place to be in but nothing wrong with the hospital staff..

News / Will Poland be badly hit by Recession ? I don't think so. [70]

Of course poverty still exists and some people are struggling too in parts of Poland which has no economic boom but all in all Poland will be ok

Love to say your right but in every recession every country will suffer, for Poland well...the poor for number 1, unemployment, prices like real estate will go down... less business activity, work out the rest... A lot of foreign companies are moving to Poland.. I hazard a quess and say cheap labour is one of the reasons.. Governments will have less money and would have cutbacks in spending...I would hate to know how much debt Poland has, especially to the EU...

"TIME TO BUY" Wayyyy..if you have funds.. but

Money is king in times of recession, I suppose those who are forced to sell will loose, the others will hold till the good times reappear, at any rate just look what happened to real estate in Ireland and Spain.

Law / Buying a USED CAR in Poland, my personal experiences and TRAPS to avoid !! [133]

i certainly could write a book about it :-)

Could start with a bit of self education, don't deny that there are a lot of cut and paste cars on the market, but you don't need a science degree to work out which ones they are, if you can't well there probably OK, you pay for what you get, a lot of people buy cars for say 5000zl at places like komis and then cry foul when they find out the car is a dud. A lot of car yards are under licence and need to comply with the customer service charter of the company they represent. I wouldn't expect too much when buying a cheap car, like real estate there a no bargains when buying a good motor car.
