I guess that term "eastern europe" was always a political term as Prague was in eastern europe but Vienna far to the east was in the "west". I have noticed a few people using central europe about Poland, which is more accurate as a geographical term.

Wroclaw every time, only drawback is all the roadworks, infrastucture projects going on at the moment. I live out by the new stadium and driving a few miles to the centre takes an hour..But its not forever. The architecture is what you would expect..some cutesy historic stuff, some bland euro-modern and some post war drab concrete stuff..but I grew up in London so I quite like that kind of mix!

yes, definitely an EX. But the thing is.. the stupid questions really came from a complete lack of curiosity, considering how many Poles live in England, your average English person has zero curiosity and lazily cling to 25 years out of date stereotypes.

Not a stupid question..but when I told my ex-secretary I was going to Poland for the weekend, she frowned, made a sympathetic face and said ahh... never mind, a weekend is soon over!

As an Englishman(albeit white) living in Wroclaw, like a few others have said stay away from some of the rougher areas and groups of drunks sitting in the parks at night, having said that Wroclaw feels like a safe city and most of the hassle will be low level, the stares will be mostly curiosity..and as an American you have an edge, they love America here mostly..Play that up for all its worth.

UK, Ireland / How long would it take for an English style restaurant in Poland to go bust? [80]

as an Englishman (although half French) who spends about 6 months a year in Wroclaw, I have noticed that Poles are fairly conservative about food, but when you cook for them and they try something good they like it..so getting them through the door would be the big challenge. But generally avoid any connection with English about food, it has only bad vibes here unless you are selling tea. But seems there would be room here for some new places if they have an edge and something to get people through the door.
