History / Poland during the Renaissance [146]

Thank you all this thread has been very interesting, and didnt become a TOTAL p!ss fest. Im going to look more into midieval and renaissance Poland. I have question, did Poland at the time ever develop a national army? Im not expecting something like a French Levee en masse but did we have one? or was it more the feudal system of lords and knights? Though I don't see how the feudal system could have produced winged hussars, well I can but I like to pretend I can't ;) and what type of army fought the Teutons at Tannenburg?

I know nothing of what went on in Poland during the renaissance, I personally believe we could not undergo a "rebirth" of the classics as we never had them originally but I'm sure we did something, considering during the time of the Renaissance we were the biggest power of Eastern Europe.

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

I would believe by blood. I know Polish blood is more of a mix than anything but if your great grandfather was from Poland than you can consider yourself part polish, if 2 were from Poland than you are Polish. Saying you must have been born there and speak the language is offensive, especially to me since one of my great grandfathers came here from German owned Poland, and the other had to flee Russian owned Poland after he was drafted into the Russian army, and had to change his name and hide in America.
