1.I think that Poland looked better before II World War same way Turkey looks good now, if looked at from certain perspective: One of largest armies in the world, relatively strong alliances, good outlooks for the economy.But the society was in some ways almost feudal, junta was in charge of the government with democracy looking like only slightely better option (strong conflicts between nobles/land owners and peasants; polish majority and minorities; democracy as idea and practice less known,tested and popular ),humanitarian rights were a shambles.

2.Just one thought about todays Poland development :Area in which Poland (and other East European countries) is lagging the most is product branding.What I mean is that EVERY West E. country has many globally known brands like Nokia,Philips,BMW,Ikea and industries which gained advantageous position 20,40,60 years ago (Italian ceramic tiles,German cars,French wines,Swiss banks and so on and on).East Europe 20 years ago had to join the race with nothing, we didn't even have capitalists (as in people who had capital).Because of that today even if we make premium product we can't charge premium price; basically we are tiny China with more freedom.

I think it depends with whom you are.If you settled for some skunk because that was the only girl that was willing to go to bed with you than yeah, you want to spend as much time with your mates as possible, have a drink and meat women.Then you meat the right one and suddenly you can see other side of yourself , enjoy life with her even more than with pals , and yes you are ready to meet in the middle, compromise to have this thing going.Been in both kind of relationships and for long run is better to be with outspoken and demanding soulmate than with hat in hand minger.
