UK, Ireland / Poles and Irish, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [62]

...you and your mixed race brood...

Wrong.

Another culchie with a polak for a wife?

Wrong and wrong...

Stop listening to the voices in your head.

Eh....hardly extricates you from your primitive torchwaving comments now does it ?

Food / Polish polskie pierogi recipe (prepared at home) [72]

i just cant bring myself to try it.it seems completely weird to put cream and sugar onto a savoury dish.

Nothing personal and no offence intended but as far as I can see, a LOT of people in states think a LOT of food is wierd and are generally unadventurous : )

I admit it sounds odd to me too - but just try it.

Same goes for kaszanka : )

Edit crossed with Shawn - great minds eh?

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

TBH you could come from any number of places - England, France, Netherlands, Greece...

I wouldn't exclude Poland, but I wouldn't get too excited either.

USA, Canada / Thanksgiving Day in the USA - was there some Polish on the table? [13]

Probably anything they could get.

eh..yeah, wild turkeys and cranberries - that the native Amercians showed them how to hunt/forage.

Hence the "thanks" to them that the settlers didn't starve. That's the "classic" story anyway. Probably bull$hit like nearly everything else in this life.

Some thanks anyway eh?

Do you mind me asking asking Havok, how old are you, specifically?

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

Russians by the way, as far as I can see, from the Poles I know.

The Germans may have been bastards but at least you knew where you stood with them and there was a logic, even if twisted - Russians on the other hand are little better than animals.

...seems to be the gist.

Just curious about your dates. No matter, you don't have to say, no offense.

Personally, I would suggest a bit later than '82. '85 or '86 maybe.

Based on the Poles I know there is a BIG difference in outlook/perspective/attitude between current 25ish and 30/31 year olds.

Well, without getting too much into it and risking the wrath of the omniprescent defender Ironside, broadly speaking, I would say the 25ish bracket are much more openly critical of Poland, are more questioning of authority generally, are more open minded, more objective, realistic.

I know Poles in their early 30s for whom it is simply automatic to defend Poland and all things Polish, rightly or wrongly, and most tellingly of all are incredibly unworldly in their attitudes - if it's not the Polish way it's wrong, not different, but wrong. Which in itself of course ends up in all kinds of dark corners, attitude wise.

I will add that I have good friends in both categories, regardless.

I've noticed this comes up a fair bit on the site, yeah. No real marked difference in my experience.

Maybe the 30ish people (this categorisation sounds awful and very patroninsing but, hey I'm trying to be coldly objective) reluctantly embrace the specifics that suit their lifestyle whilst the the 25ish people embrace just the general availability that comes with increased affluence but not in a manic or greedy way?

I don't see much evidence of vulgarity if that's what you mean.

Consumerism vs materialism?

Well maybe the younger group will get a Chinese/Indian/Thai takeaway the odd time if they feel like it whereas the older group mumble about chemicals and people who eat dogs.

Work / Teaching English in Krakow for graduates? [7]

I share your fear based on the posts of Delphiandomine - he is currently banned but check out his comments.

Could be paranoia/bull$hit/self preservation or whatever but there is info there anyway.

Good luck.

not vulgar but perhaps slightly pronounced

Ha ! well, go on - what is your take?

Scandinavian eh? I though you were American. Excellent English, but hardly surprising.

polish my Polish:)

Oh very clever ; )

But Havok, reading your initial post again, I see a longing sadness.

To be Polish is as good and as bad as it is to be anything else. We all have our BS. Every country. You write very well by the way.

I love my Polish friends, warts and all.

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

Is he wrong? Any "tea" I've had in Poland has been vile. As in stuff that purports to be made from leaves from China, India or wherever.

Sure, there is raspberry tea and whatever but it isn't tea, really. It's flavoured hot water basically. Nothing much wrong with it but it's not the same thing is it?

Maybe that's not what you mean though...

Until youve had IRISH potatoes you havent had potatoes.. are you wrong?

WTF are you talking about?

The point being you cant claim Irish potatoes are the best

Well I don't - that's why "WTF" but, OK.

he cant claim Marks n Spencers tea is the best.

But why not? Maybe he's tried 28 other brands and he thinks they're all sh1te?

Maybe it's time for you to reveal your great tea bags then? I'm not being smart arsey here BTW.

Alright, you sound pissed or something, forget it.

Good tea doesn't come in bags. Have you tried tea shops?

It was Wroclaw Boy that was on about bags. It's in random now.

You did come here though - hammering Polish food, that was why you came here i remember,

Well you remember wrongly then.

and you just kind of hung around since.

LOL

What the hell is your problem??

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

Probably, I don't really know. Just heard a few albums and thought they were good. One was puk puk and it's 15 years old so I suppose maybe yeah, her older work.

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

Maybe. I meant Bjork more in the sense that it goes all over the place and has the irreverent attitude, with the pixie-aggressive delivery. But it had more guitar too if I remember correctly. And generally a bit darker like you say.

So no, maybe not actually like Bjork at all really then : )

Anyway, I thought it was good. And the others I heard too but I've no idea what they were called and wouldn't know even if you said.

salad cream.

My guilty pleasure I have to say - very versatile. Poles I know love it actually - goes very well with hard boiled eggs amongst many other things.

Never tried it. Nice one.

Don't like mayo at all - especially the home made stuff so never really thought of trying this.

Maybe I'll give it a go

Just looked at the recipes/comments - a few look useful alright but some very offensive comments (!)

"It's mayo with vinegar and lemon juice"

Is it arse!

Bloody philistines.

Life / New trend in Poland - dogging. [29]

your world is a simple place, spud-eater !

...and your posts make much less sense than you seem to think they do. You can't just throw a handful of words together and assume they are articulate.

I suggest you brush up on your English.

Spud eater

oh my! oh help me I am sooo offended!

You really are an utter dick aren't you?

Ah OK, so it seems that the concept of dogging is new to Ironside. Bless.

Well, of course he's absolutely outraged and has probably already contacted his local priest - I-S is so reactionary that he probably thinks electricity is the devils work.

Then, he manages:

spud-eater

Which coming from a Pole is like a heroin addict calling a dope smoker a junkie.

...and then he starts accusing others of trolling. LOL

BTW you did know that the actor who played Ironside was gay didn't you I-S?
