Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [267]

Is English widely spoken in the smaller villages? I am working on my Polish, but I still have a lot to learn. I'm interested in visiting the small villages where my ancestors come from - in areas around Poznań and Plock. I'm not expecting to find anything about them, they left on the 1880s and I know very little - I just want to walk where they did.

I am trying to learn some Polish for my trip there in the fall. I'm thinking 20 is not too old - I'm hoping 50 isn't either!

I've been using Pimsleur's Polish CDs and really like them. I have Rosetta Stone and personally, I don't see how you can learn a language with them. I know it's supposed to be patterned on how we learn our first language, but I no longer have a child's mind, my learning pattern's are different than a baby's mind.

What a snippy and uncalled for response. Mikek wasn't asking anyone to tell him how they lived, it was just an explanation of why he was asking questions.

I'm pretty much doing the same. Unfortunately, I have to guess at some things since there is no written record - I'm guessing my great-grandparents who came in the 1880's as children or teens probably were farmers since that's what they did here in the U.S. I never thought about them leaving because they were encouraged to leave.
