It's a terrible tragedy for Poland and for everybody. I felt condolence to the Polish people...

I'm from Moscow. I can't believe that healthy people can believe that Russian "KGB" is behind that tragedy.

Is it an accident? Yes and no.

Too many strange things at once: too many high rank people in an old plane targeted to the old and closed military airbase. This base was closed last year! There was no good modern equipment for safe landing any time except sunny day! Our government didn't support this visit - yes it was not polite...

There is something common betwen Russians and Polish people. Truly we both don’t need any enemy - we themselves are worst enemies for themselves...

Polish pilots flying our president had trouble with understanding air traffic controllers who ignored international protocol and instead of English used Russian.

Evalina, this "airport" is actually a former military airbase closed in October last year.

Frankly, I would prefer those controllers to speak their native language instead of English they never spoke...

I just wonder how many unprecedented things happened at once - starting from the old plane full of VIPs and ending this old airport not ready for any trouble landing...

The President ordered PIC to land in a war zone near Tibilisi, although the
flight plan was for another safe destination.

For the President and his delegation it was very important meeting they couldn't miss for many reasons.

The pilot defenetely knew that and might be decided to try his best? Not necessary to put a pressure.

Three possibilities:
1) Tragic accident
2) Murder arranged by Putin
3) 'Third force' declares war on Putin

(1) yes, most probably.
(2) Some people believes he is a mad idiot - only in this case he could be involved. I don't think he is an idiot.

(3) The possibility is higher than #2. But who they planned to influence? Lunatics on different forums?

(4) I have no idea - are any enemies inside Poland for the President? Visit organization looks unbelievable... We need to think about who and how organized this visit - accident probability was too high in this flight.

Accident is LEAST likely whenever poltician dies violent death.

Lets take a look on the whole picture - is anybody here who would feel safe in this old plane landing to the old almost abandoned airbase in the thick fog?

It looks like a scenario for a cheap horror film, not a plan for VIPs visit...

This sad and terrible tragedy for Poland is simply a series of human errors made entirely by Polish people....

I think this "airport" was not properly prepared for VIPs visit and for flight safety.

There is a complete chain of wrong decisions and no decisions. Including not to provide more equipment and more experienced staff for this "unofficial" visit. Now we all suffer.

No 3- don't mix journalists and even specialists misinterpretation with lies and facts - black boxes will tell us the story;

No 4 - it is not true. Local people on local Smolensk forum discussed that fog.

Other points are discussible. Important thing in conspiracy theory is to find motives - who benefit and how?

Tusk, if elected, will withdraw Poland from plans for missile defense shield=Putin very happy.

Might be I missed something but in your messages I founded only this argument for Russia to be involved.

It is actulally non-existing - US plans were changed and no missile defense system will be placed in Poland. The garantee is not Tusk or someone else but Russian-US new treaty - a conditions when Russia may quite.

If you call a new "Patriot" system "a missile defense" - no you are wrong, it's not a danger for Russia, just a garantee for Poles safety feelings.

But I really don't understand internal Polish situation - is it really possible that someone could be interested in this crash?

Olga, last 5 years Russia spent in preparation to avoid intrermediate countries which may cut these pipe lines- and just last week started to built a new pipeline in Baltic sea. I remember Polish position about it and Polish President role - but Russia has already solved this problem and put a lot of resourses there instead of Poland and Ukraine.

And please, don't call Mr Yanukovich a pupett - he is just more pragmatic then previous President. They are in really bad situation. And Russia as well as US and EU have no money and big interest to support Ukraine anymore. They play a ping-pong with that pure country trying to avoid big expenses...

And Geogia is not NATO member - and will never be in current situation.

But in very general sense, IF it was a conspiracy plan - we started to discuss real things - ECONOMIC interests. But I still don't see any arguments - only empty feelings and complexes.

How convenient that Tusk is now to run for President.
Pipeline was likely the reason for the falling out between Tusk and Kaczynski. Remember, Kaczynski was very pro-West:

I could be wrong, but from here Mr Tusk looks more pro-EU and Mr Kaczynski looks more like isolationists trying to play on a balance between US and EU?

From pure economic point of view Mr Tusk looks more pragmatic - but definetely not a "Putin puppet"...

Olga: No, he is very pro- close ties with Russia. Numerous news articles on that.

OK. Nothing bad with it.
From normal logic bloody crime could stop or revert it. So, the interst is quite opposite, isn't it?

Please clarify.

Assume you are right and bloody Russians are involved - and they are the first suspects - what reaction should be? People like you take this version even without any prove - don't you think that even a shadow of any evidence will destroy a whole construction?

For what reason they would take a risk? Just for their "puppet Tusk"?

So, you think KGB are angels, and are not capable of this, huh? What the hell do you think they train for? If you really think that, you know nothing.

I don't know who are they now - depends on what you think about life after death.
I know that they are not with us anymore...:)

Their successors are very pragmatic and don't believe in stupid theories like "communism" - they like profit, stability and possibility to spend money outside Russia. Their interests are very simple and predictable.

I belive they have enough IQ not to listen paranoids and make their own conclusions based on the real facts.

People believe that Stalin and stalinists are evil - yes, but why? Because stalinizm is a special way of thinking with a deep fog in the head - and everything outside such a head looks very clear. And they make conclusions without any proofs - they rather prepare proofs based on their conclusions. Don't you see your face in that mirror, Olga? The way of thinking is just the same...

1) Great fog--the fog of all fogs! Greatly exaggerated.
2) Rapid dismissal of technical failure (according to witness accounts, plane was circling and dumping fuel--not repeatedly attempting to land.

(1) I visited the local Smolensk forum of 10.04 - they were talking about thick fog (doesn't mean it lasts forever).

One of the first replies:
"Странно, что в такой туман (я из окна 9-го этажа землю с трудом вижу) вообще кто-то решился на полёт." - "Strange that in such a fog (the ground is hardly visible from my 9th floor) somebody dared to fly"

And a lot of Poles in the airport, including journalists were witnesses.

(2) From several sources I know that Tu-154 is not able to dump fuel. Are you aviation specialist and may prove it with something different than journalists first opinions?

You are looking in the wrong places. For such catastrophe any possibilities should be taken into account and I'm sure they will be taken by professionals from both countries.

LOOK closely at the boy's video--he shot it when Tu-154 was flying overhead.

It is TU-154 - but with wrong colours. Polish plane had red colours on it.
