News / Bad news for beer-lovers in Poland (beer prices going up) [22]

I don`t drink German beers. They are so tasteless. Yuk. The difference in cost doesn`t matter to me, it is about taste.

lol. German beer is good stuff. I'd rate it higher than Polish beer. There is more variety when it comes to German beer, and the same is with Belgian and Czech beer. That being said, I still like Polish beer though, and Zywiec porter and Warka strong is great :)

Love / Are polish women competative about men? [20]

God damn these stupid threads. STOP GENERALIZING. For fucks sake. Some Polish women are competitive, some are not. Same like all women.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

over 30 per cent of the Polish population do

I was reading a chart not too long ago on which demographics of Poland vote for which party. The western half of Poland, and many big cities, vote for Tusk. Most people who vote for Kaczynski are the poor old people in eastern Poland. I highly doubt many youth in Poland vote for PiS.

Travel / Best places to visit in Poland [87]

The three best places to go when in Poland are Krakow, Zakopane, and Wroclaw. Krakow, IMO, is in the top 10 most beautiful cities in Europe. Amazing old town, Wieliczka, Kazimierz and Wawel is a big sight to see, the crown jewel of the city. A lot of things to do, great pubs, and good restaurants.

Zakopane is also a must see when in Poland. Its around a one hour drive from Krakow, so you should go. The tatra mountains are beautiful. They may not be as big or impressive as the Alps, but its still a sight to see. I loved the town of zakopane with the wooden architecture.

Wroclaw is a nice Polish city as well, but there is not as much to do compared to Krakow. Personally speaking, cities like Gdansk, Sopot, Lublin, Zamosc are nice cities, but they are nothing too special. Those cities only need a day each.

Food / "Modern" Polish cooking (funny video clip) [21]

Looked disgusting, and he didn't handle the chicken properly. That could cause contamination. and what is it with Polish people and their obsession with ketchup? One should never, ever put ketchup on pizza. Put tomato sauce when making a pizza, not flipping ketchup.

Life / Are Xbox games in Poland translated into Polish? [8]

I have cousins in Poland who have xbox/PSP video games, and the subtitles and menus, etc, are in Polish, but the voices and dialogue is in English. For a video game company to have a game in over 40 different languages (dialogue), would take too long and it would cost a fortune.

And District12a, Polish is not the hardest language to learn.

Life / Worlds most liveable cities (Krakow or Warsaw don't even hit the radar screens) [104]

Warsaw has potential to be a beautiful city, but its going to take at least 15-20 years time. It has its beautiful parts, like the old town and many parts of downtown, and some nice parks etc. But it has a lot of ugly parts (Praga, Ursynow come to mind). The problem with Warsaw is that you have some beautiful architecture, and right beside it, you have those disgusting, piece of crap bloki mieszkalny right beside it, and it spoils the beauty. Personally speaking, if they demolished those cramped communist era apartment blocks and other buildings, it could look beautiful. Thats what they are doing in former east germany. Every year, there are less and less commie blocks. Poland should start doing the same in 25-30 years time.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

I'll second that :) Budvar is close to being my favourite and I've tried many many beers around the world.

budvar is very good, but my favorite Czech beer is Staropramen and Urquell. Mmmmmm. When I went to a massive Polish supermarket/megamart in Krakow, I went to the beer section and the Czech beer was almost all sold out, and many Polish brands were still completely full. One of the workers over there told me its very popular (Czech beer).

Life / Are Polish roads really this bad? [237]

Wash your mouth out with soap and water son!!

Please don't be a hypocrite. Polish people do the same thing. Why do you call Vilnius, Wilno, and Lviv, lwow? Warsaw, Warszawa, Warschau, its the same damn thing, just different language.

Travel / Would Polish visit Greece for it's islands or for it's history ? [30]

Because it has a lot of significance, thats why people visit them. Western Civilization and democracy came from Greece, and it has over 3000 years of history. and what's the point of rebuilding the Acropolis? It has nothing to do with laziness, if they were to completely change it, it would lose its charm. and what do you mean "we in Poland have rebuilt Warsaw"? You haven't built anything.

Love / Why do so many Polish girls dye their hair BLACK? [124]

Yup. But black hair looks good on some of them, but not all. What I can't stand though is when they dye their hair completely red. and when I mean red, I'm talking about that bright red/orange, like a marker. It looks so fake and stupid. Poor fashion sense imo.

Oh, and women with black hair, green eyes and tan skin= the best :)

UK, Ireland / Worst of the worst Poles emigrating to Britain? [32]

Yea, there may be some lowlife, foul mouthed immigrants, but thats not only Polish people. Its like that with every ethnic group. You got good, hard working people, and you got the morons. My relatives moved to the UK for a better living, but they are not foul mouthed, rude and lazy people. They are hard working and speak fluent english. My uncle moved to UK, made a ton of money, had a nice flat, nice car, and lived very comfortably. He moved back to Poland a year ago, and is unemployed now. He might go and live in UK for good now. A lot of Polish people like UK, and I'm not just talking about money.

Travel / Which way from Poland to Croatia.... [30]

I would love to see Croatia. I have a few friends who visited, and said it was one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Would love to see Split, Dubrovnik and the islands.

Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

I agree. I think many Polish cities have the potential to become extremely beautiful if they put some renovation into it. For example Lodz. yes, its gray and depressing, but if you look at a lot of the architecture, its very beautiful. Its just badly neglected and gray. If they were to restore and renovate these buildings, paint them, and change the streets into nice cobblestone, it can look amazing. When I went to krakow a month and a half ago, even outside the stare miasto, they are slowly renovating buildings and streets. I think it will look great when its all done.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Let's not forget that we are still -80000 sq km as a result of WW2.I want Poland at least 400000 sq km large and a 100 milions strong.

You sound like an ultranationalist nutcase, that deserves to be laughed at. fact is, the vast majority of people in Poland couldn't care less about the border issue. They are more focused on trying to make their own country a better place to live.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

The menu does have a few Polish things, no doubt. But Des Essientes, most of the stuff isn't Polish, period. Ricotta cheese with roasted lamb, salmon with dijon sauce, scallops and pesto pasta is not Polish. It sounds more like French food. My mom had a massive Polish cookbook at home, and its included with recipes passed from from generation to generation. I have never had any of that stuff from the warszawa restaurant menu, with the exception of a few things, like potato pancakes, pierogi and borsch.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

I'm Polish. I've been eating Polish food for my entire life, and I can tell you, most of the menu is NOT Polish food. I'm sorry, but the salads on that menu sound more like French food to me, and I've never had most of the stuff on that menu, and I've never heard of it either. The menu choices seem too fancy to be Polish food. Ricotta cheese, scallops, lamb and angel hair pasta with pesto is not Polish food. Real Polish food is bland, and lacks herbs and spices, and certainly isn't as fancy.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Polish food from time to time, but I can't eat it everyday. fact is, Polish food is not the best food in Europe. French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, and other mediterranean cuisine is miles ahead. They simply have more variety, herbs and spices, looks more appetizing, and tastes like heaven. Polish food is not bad, there are some good dishes. But like one poster said, most of it is just "ok", its too ordinary.

Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

Krakow, for sure. One of the most beautiful cities in Europe IMO. The beautiful Wawel castle and cathedral on the hill is amazing, as well as the Cloth hall and the rynek, it was great! Beautiful city thats getting more popular every year.

Work / What jobs pay 10,000 zlotych per month? and Where can i find one? :o) [101]

Why the hell would you ever want to move back to Poland for good? No offense, but are you that thick headed? Yes, you may miss Poland, but you will NOT get the same quality of life as you will in Canada. If you go back to Poland, what guarantee is there that you will land a decent job, with benefits? Why would you move when your children are doing well in Canada, making friends and having a great education? Your children have way more of a future in Canada than in Poland. Be grateful that you live in Canada Dariusceg. I'm not only talking about money, but most things are better in Canada. Better economy, more employment/better wages, far better healthcare, better pension, good infrastructure, and some of the best universities in the world that your children can attend in the future. The only thing better about Poland IMO, is that you have cities that are over 800 years old, with lots of history, and beautiful ryneks, etc, but its not worth it to move back to Poland.
