Life / What are my best options for buying a car? ( I am coming to Warsaw to study ) [7]

I also bought a car for my 2 years of studying in Poland. Bought mine in Germany... was pretty expensive to register in PL but half of that was because of the 3 liter engine :P If you can find a good buy in Poland then you can save some money but even most Polish mechanics will tell you to go west to buy. If you want, let me know your budget for a car you want to buy and I can recommend a few. I spent a while researching before I made my buy and just sold it for almost the same price.

Work / ex boeing worker interested in Poland work [2]

Where could an ex Boeing assembly line worker mid40's who also finished auto tech school with prior polish military service experience find a transportation related manufacturing job in Poland. How hard would it be to find a job? What might be a reasonable expected monthly salary estimate? How much would fluent English help?

I heard in the Rzeszow area there are a lot of aeronautical related manufacturers in addition to some locomotive and automotive (bus).

Any information or even somewhat knowledgeable guesses would help greatly. Thanks for the help.

Work / 3500 PLN gross - not happy with my salary (working in Warsaw for an international company) [55]

Well if your not happy with the pay but love the job I suggest get a side job teaching english...

I taught when I lived in Warsaw for average just 8 hours for the entire week, while going to school, and made well over half your netto monthly. Find a language school and get paid 50zl an hour or offer private English lessons. There is a popular website where people offer private lessons (forgot the name) and post an ad there. You can charge 70+ zl for private one hour lessons.

Hope that helps

Law / Does Poland have the most prehistorical and strictest banking system in the world? [57]

Merged: Banking Regulations in Poland stricter than in other countries?

I've heard that Poland's banking regulations are stricter than in alot of other countries. Can anyone give me some examples of banking regulations that are unique to Poland or at least different from many other countries in Europe or worldwide?

Law / Why is Poland importing so much coal? [76]

yeah did some more research and figured it out for the most part.

"Between the 1990s and 2000s, the coal industry underwent major restructuring, which led to the early closure of many coal mines and a sudden decrease in production output. In fact, due to this restructuring process, Poland's coal production has spiralled into a steady decline. More recently, coal imports exceeded exports for the first time in history."

worldcoal.org/resources/ecoal-archive/ecoal-current-issue/coal-profile-poland/

When this industry becomes more privatized as they claim, in addition to the new PGE deal, exports should probably rise in the future

Law / Why is Poland importing so much coal? [76]

I was just wondering why the country with the largest coal reserves in Europe would be importing so much. I know 93% of Poland's energy is reliant on coal and I know PGE is building a huge new coal plant in Opole but shouldn't the domestic reserves suffice? or at least shouldn't imports be low, not exponentially increasing? Especially with the EU carbon emissions rules working against the Polish coal industry so heavily.. Just find it strange that imports have risen and exports have fallen over the past 30 years..

USA, Canada / Piwniczanka related water in the U.S. ? [5]

So in Poland I learned to drink a few liters of Piwniczanka and other mineral water a day and I have never been this healthy in my life. Anyway, is there anything in the U.S. that is comparable in terms of mineral content?

Thanks

Law / Poland and the Euro - benefit for Polish economy? [49]

So sounds like in theory the Euro in Poland would work but then when you take into consideration the intangible stuff like for example corruption and greediness, mainly on the banks part (LIBOR), it would be tough to work...

Law / Poland and the Euro - benefit for Polish economy? [49]

So I heard more talk on the news today about Poland joining the Eurozone by 2015. I was just wondering if it would have a positive impact on the Polish economy or not with all the problems other eurozone countries are having. Also inversely, would it benefit the Eurozone alot by having Poland join in?

Thanks

Law / Millennium bank question [13]

Hi guys, so I have an account with Millennium bank in Poland and I just had a quick question. I know Millennium bank is originally Portuguese and we know their economic situation, things aren't looking so good for them. So with the situation in Cyprus with the proposed "haircut" bailout which didn't go through of course, but if they ever did want to do something like that in Portugal and it did go through, would they be able to take money from my Millennium bank account in Poland or is it a separate branch with no affiliation to the Portuguese branch?

USA, Canada / Getting job in U.S. with Polish degree [14]

Phtoa and MJD, both you guys make a good point.

@MJD, yes it would look better to get a degree from an American university, but again depends on the employer. My logic is that if I am going to study international business it might be wise to go outside the U.S. to get that degree. I did do some thinking and discussing with friends and family and right now after I recieve my M.A. I would have to spend another year and a half of schooling going for my American MBA but the economy seems a little too uncertain right now..

@Phtoa, ya thanks. Its actually just a M.A. but if I continue another year and a half like mentioned, I could get my American MBA...

Regardless I have alot of thinking to do. Just at that point where I want to quit studying and start working already :P

USA, Canada / Getting job in U.S. with Polish degree [14]

Thanks for the feedback guys. My school does have a partnership with NL University in Chicago so they recognize it so that might help. How should I go about evaluating my diploma?

I think it might be important just to land a solid internship and go from there.

USA, Canada / Getting job in U.S. with Polish degree [14]

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had experience with looking for a job in the U.S. with a degree from Poland? I got my bachelors of arts in the U.S. and then went to Polska to get my masters in business management from a wyzsza szkola (wsb). Anyway I am going to be finishing up soon and will have to come home and was wondering what a job search will look like for me with a Polish degree and how potential employers might view it.

Thanks

Law / How to register a new business in Poland [129]

Merged: Registering a business in Poland

Hey guys I want to register a business in Poland and send products from Poland to China with my colleague. Where do I start? I just got my Polish citizenship so I think that will make it easier for me. I know I need to get a nip number but how should I do that and do I do this after I register my business or at the same time?

Also what are the costs of registering a business. I have been told that it costs 1500 zloty to register a business here. Is this true?

Law / Selling product to restaurants/ supermarkets [7]

Hey guys my friend owns a business in Italy producing cheese and wants me to help him present his product to restaurants and supermarkets in Poland. How should I go about contacting the owners/ managers?

I can speak and write Polish pretty well, just wondering if I should just go to Real or Tesco's website and shoot them an email with info to set up a meeting along with restaurant owners or just show up and hand them an information booklet on the product.

Work / NEW TO POLAND (Student in KRAKOW). Life questions. [8]

Temperature here is not so bad right now, in the 60's yesterday but it will fall pretty quick. Winter gets down to sub-zero frequently so bring a ton of warm clothes. Clothing in Poland is as much or even more expensive than in the U.S. so I would just do shopping at home if I were you although there is this swap meat on weekends called the Tomeks where you can find cheaper clothing but as you may guess the quality might not be that great.

Not sure about the musical instrument shops but I'm sure you can google that part and find alot of stuff.

News / Why are many Poles anti-Euro2012 [16]

ok thanks. Ya I got the impression that they didn't like it because someone was being treated unfairly?

I think it will be huge business for the country. Can just imagine every pub, hotel, and store packed the entire time. We will see. I accidentally was in the rynek in Krakow when Cracowia and Wisla were supposed to play each other and the hundreds of police seemed to handle it pretty well. The craziest thing I've ever seen from the sports world though haha
