Travel / Fish and Chips in Warsaw [53]

I went to this place today. The address is ul. koszykowa 30.

I am guessing that they changed the prices since opening.

I bought 'large' chips for 8zl and was very surprised. There were, honestly about 10 chips in the tray. I didn't expect the portion size to be same as the UK but it was a rip-off in my opinion.

They had other things available to buy such as biscuits and crisps. A packet of hobknobs cost 13zl.

Might be best for a rare treat.

Life / Passing your Polish language and culture to your kids [74]

I don't know any Polish families living in England who do not speak Polish to their children. Even if they are fluent in English, they only teach their children Polish and assume they will learn English in school.

I am English and have a Polish husband and our son is grasping both languages with ease. I know another woman in the same situation and her children are fine with both languages, they do have more of a Polish accent but I see nothing wrong with that.

I think teaching children to speak 2 languages from a young age is better because over time it becomes natural to them.

UK, Ireland / why do you shout and throw (question for english people) [30]

I don't think there is a more logical reason than people that do things like that are morons and think that it is funny.

I was once walking very early in the morning, a van drove past me quite quickly and threw an egg at me, it hurt like hell. I was in shock. There are some very dumb people in the world.

Sorry I couldn't give better reasons.

Life / Cost of Utilities in Warsaw. [23]

Hi,

As you said it will depend on a lot of things.

Rent can be anywhere from 1200-2000zl, depending on the size of the flat.

I pay 118zl per month for electricity and every few months someone comes round to check the meter to see if I have paid too much or too less. (I haven't been here long so I haven't experienced it yet).

I pay about 102zl for water but there are 3 of us living in a flat, so your bill should be considerably less.

I have the internet and cable tv from the same company so it costs about 80zl.
So in total it is about 300zl but varies from month to month.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to Poland :)

Life / Are there any shops that sell petite trousers in Poland? [4]

Wildrover- I have no idea how to respond to your suggestion.

Foreigner 4-Thanks, I have bought kids clothes in the past but sadly I have put on weight so the waist size would be too small now.

I will just have to buy ridiculously long jeans and take them to a tailor.

UK, Ireland / Moving to Poland from UK - how to watch English tv? [7]

Hi all,

I'll be moving to Poland for the second time soon and just wondered if it is possible to watch English tv channels i.e BBC1, E4 etc?

I've heard about freesat but not sure if it would work in Poland?

Thanks in advance.
