UK, Ireland / Polish clubs / pubs in Dublin? [17]

It's quite easy to make friends with irish guys but I'd love to meet local girls, have someone to chat with on daily basis or go out with every now and then.....I just don't know how to do it.

Well, try all the bars in Temple bar in the weekends, lots of Irish girls, the drunker they get, the more talkative too!
Another good place is McGowans of Phipsboro.

To answer your question, I did not find any typical Polish clubs or pubs, and Id love to have a Zywiec on draught!

UK, Ireland / Where to buy Żołądkowa gorzka, cherry with honey in Dublin? [4]

The topic says it itself, is there any off lisence in or around the city centre in Dublin selling this?
I found the off lisence on Talbot street sells Wyborowa and Zubrówka, but haven't managed to find Gorzka.

I am a foreigner living in Dublin now, but lived in Krakow for two years.
All I noticed is exactly that stereotype: drunken Brits acting like fools boozing up at a low price.
Some clubs do have a sign not allowing Brits, and I can not give them any more right than to do so.
If you wanna act like a swine, show disrespect to the country and do whatever the fck u want, then stay home and go out in Manchester for a night, they'll set ya right straight!

I find Poles and Irish get along quite well actually, they are not locking themselves up, Poles are actually interacting with the Irish and a lot of friendships are built that way.

From what I experience, Polish here in Ireland get along with all nationalities, something that can not be said from the Poles in Poland...

Real Estate / Where to live, where to avoid in Krakow [28]

Well, most areas of Krakow are kinda okay, if u live in the city centre, you will be okay, just avoid aread like Nowa Huta or Podgorza, since they are quite dodgy...

If you are living outside the centre, Bronowice or Krowodza are nice areas with easy access to the city centre by tram or bike.

Good sites to look for a place are gumtree dot pl to start with!

UK, Ireland / Polish clubs / pubs in Dublin? [17]

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone was aware of any clubs or pubs in the Dublin city centre (Dublin 1 / Dublin 2) where a lot of Polish or just central European people in general go out?

I know about one place on caple street but if you order a wodka there, its smirnoff so I wouldnt call it Polish, also, all the staff is Chinese...

So if anyone would know any of these place, and on which days it is busy, it would be highly appreciated!

There are loads of clubs around the main square, I would recommend Shakers, Frantic, Il Blanco, Kitsch, Rdza, ...

All of em are nice, I would suggest you go around and see which one u like, and leave it if u dont like it, most of em dont charge entry fee anyway.

Around the main square, there are no rough clubs or clubs to avoid, so just go out, have a blast, and keep on looking and drinking till u find something worth while!

Work / I got a job in Krakow for 3500 zl Brutto...is it ok ? [33]

I work as a foreigner in Krakow as well and if u rent a cheap place, and dont spend like crazy, 2500 nett would cover the costs, but dont overdo anything.

Dont expect to live in luxury or be able to go out as much as you want.
For language skills you contribute, I would say the payment is rather low.

I think with the 12 months they mean if u stop before that period, u have to pay back all the costs like the 2 weeks living, trainings etc, it was like that when i worked in another country at least.

To be honest, I would negotiate the payment and try to get more.

I am looking for a company that offers temporary secured storage for furniture, clothing in Krakow.
The thing is I have to move out of my appartment by the end of next week so I am looking for a place that offers storage for a week/month...

I know that there are similar companies abroad but I was wondering if this also exists in the Krakow area.

Any places more off the beaten track?

There are a lot of lovely places around Krakow that are not very touristic.

Like you could for instance also visit the national park in Ojcow, which is about 15km outside Krakow, and while you are there, visit Skala, a lovely little city nearby with an ancient castle that is open to the public for a very low entrance price (I believe it was 10zl).

The kind of things you want to do on a sunny sundayafternoon :)

Any recommendations for nice little finds in Kraków as regards shops or sightseeing?

Kazimierz is a very cosy area, u might find a lot of nice restaurants and places to see there that are not too touristic.
Another nice place to go is the lake of Krispinow, a little bit outside Krakow, lovely in summer time to sit outside and have a good pint.

I have friends who beat up foreigners everyday, break their teeth or their face just for pure enjoyment

That, I think, is very wrong.
Okay, not all foreigners behave in the way they should, but a lot of them that actually live and work in Krakow for some time do behave and know how to act but still they become the victim of senseless crime.

Imagine every country in Europe would start having the same mentality towards Poles who work in another country? Where would it end? Because we foreigners might not always behave in the best way, but neither do Polish people that "work" abroad.

Since Poland is in the European UNION for some years now, I think it is about time for Polish people to stop the crime and realise that they are part of a bigger community now, called Europe. Seems like Polish people only understand this when its for their own advantage (example : working in other European countries), but when its tourists visiting their country, they expect everyone to speak Polish, act in a normal way and beware of who they look at and in what way...

It will take some time for this country to develop to the standards of a Western country, I realise that, but hating people and beating them up for fun just because they are not Polish will not get you guys any closer to this goal either.

Where is the policing, jeden? The market square should be regularly patrolled, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Kraków had a visible contingent of police when I was there so what has changed?

Nothing, there is still a lot of police around the main square at all times

To be honest, as a foreigner living here for a year and a half, Im even a bit fed up with all those tourists coming here all the time...

I have been living in Krakow as a foreigner for about 18 months now.
Overall the city is not bad when it comes to safety, however, if you provoque it (could even be by talking in English), you will have to live with the consequences too.

There are bad and mean people in every big city in Europe, Krakow is not an exception to this rule, it has nothing to do with Poland, you could easily get mugged in Brussels or Barcelona or Paris too...

I think your friends were just at the wrong place at the wrong time, nothing more, nothing less...

And about the staff in the hospital not able to speak in English, that is something I have noticed as well, but then again, this is Poland, not England, so nobody can force them to speak in English.

after some time spent in my host country (soon ex-host country) I can actually say that I master the national language pretty well, at least 1 out the 2 national languages - sorry Flemish!

I am Flemish living in Poland but didnt master the language either yet, I can help myself in a store but that's about it, a fluent conversation is still a utopia, I have lived here for one year and 2 months now...

Me personally I dislike the attitude of some people, everyone is very self-reliant and would rather not have any contact with anyone if they dont know them.

I sometimes wonder how friendships here come into place since nobody talks to strangers.

Another thing that pushes my button is the bureaucracy and all the papers and stamps u need for everything, to get form 2, u need form 1 with a stamp, but dont forget to take a copy, because when u request form 3 u need to present form 1 and 2 while u had to hand in form 1 to get form 2... If the rainforest ever dissapears, I will blame Poland for it!

Another thing that annoys me is the condition of the road, the lack of highways (100km here takes u 2 hours by car).

The knowledge of English by native people sometimes upsets me too, but I understand that, since I am in their country, I should adapt to them, but its kinda hard for example at the city hall when there is nobody that speaks English and u dont understand sh*t from the forms u have to fill out.

There are many more things I could say but I think I will stick to this for now :-)
