News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 21 [234]

For those who like the idea of russia killing people.... here a big pile of soldiers killed... by putin (not directly, but... at his pleasure, as they say).

x.com/albafella1/status/1912864260394299716

the weird thing is... no russians care.... there's a video of a young russian who doesn't understand why whole vilalges mourn and pay their respects at the funerals of Ukrainian soldiers... nothing like that happens in russia apparently... I guess russians are too afraid of repression to mourn their dead relatives.

In other news.... (as generalsvr reported a couple of months ago...) russia no longer views the taliban as a terrorist organization...

NN tactics include using teenage Ukrainian traitors as suicide bombers

I think this is a variation of a torpedo attack... (look it up, nothing to do with boats)... the fact that the russians blew the charge well before they got to where they were going suggests something similar...

russia further humiliates Trump who will have to make a new excuse for them...

massive drone attack in downtown Dnipro.... just waiting for the russians to point out there were soldiers there at some time or other....

Only psychotic freaks can support this.

Who said I supported it?

Would you criticize it in writing in public in russia (when you're there too)?

If not... you gave it all the support that the russian government needed.

I believe Putin

SUCKER!!!!!!!

In Russia it is bad for your health to do what Maryana does.

You supported the trial, imprisonment and likely murder of Navalny... (a piece of sh7t on his own but let's let that slide for a moment).

What makes you think the rest of the world wants to be as politically castrated as russians are?

Is that so unclear or why are you picking on me

Not picking on you. It just seems like a waste of time to expect a russian to have a sense of shame or responsibility... A few do, I guess, but none of them here seem to.

Trump taking a sympathetic view of Russia's actions.

How is saying the war should never have happened a 'sympathetic view' of russia's actions...

So russia regrets killing a bunch of civilians? That would be a first....

do not gather the military for the award ceremony, and especially in civilian cities

This is a major self-own.... you're saying in essence that She's right in her estimation that russians will kill tens of civilians, including children, for the chance to kill a few officers....

russians don't even seem to hear themselves....

I hate when one of the biggest modern military slaughters toddlers with relish

I despise Netanyahu as well and he's long past the state (10 year rule!) where he can actually do the country any good....

That said... Palestinians have been hated in every Arab country they've been allowed into, usually because they try to overthrow the government or support an invading force...

I wish they had better but they don't want better (a peace they can live with alongside Jews) they want a resounding military victory and won't settle for anything less....Awful but I see no way forward for them in their current state which they cling to ferociously.

They had a chance in the 1990s to create a functioning society and failed (and called another intifada... which they lost). They were given local control over Gaza and they failed at that too.

At some point it's not about what they weren't allowed to do but what they've done with chances given (essentially.... fail at everything but terrorism).

Again... wha'ts your solution? I have none.

Learning a Finno-Ugric language that has absolutely no relation whatsoever to any Indo-European language is easy?

So you're saying they're dumb....

a BIT of a hurdle, to learn this stupid language?

Such a mystery why russians aren't popular.....

How many Estonians were allowed to refuse to learn russian during the CCCP?

russian is no longer the common language of Estonia, Estonian is. If that bothers them so much they can move back to russia (supposedly there's plenty of room there).

Estonia revokes the rights of 80,000 residents to vote in local elections.

russian citizens and not Estonian citizens... what's wrong wit that?

people are being made apatrides (persons with no citizenship whatsoever), for failing at Estonian language tests

It's not that high a hurdle and most ethnic russian Estonian citizens had no problem...

Because they can't learn a language that nobody needs or wants.

Well that's wrong because they obviously need it..... IF THEY WANT TO LIVE IN ESTONIA AND BECOME ESTONIAN CITIZENS!!!!!

They create their own problems and then whinge and cry about it.... how many Estonians could blow off russian and not learn it during the accursed soviet union?

do not give a F about kids being slaughtered in Gaza.

I wouldn't say I don't give a F, more that I can't see any way out of the current situation... Israelis have shown they're willing to live next to Palestinians but Palestinians won't accept anything but the complete destruction of Israel and/or slaughter of all the Jews... they're pretty clear about that.

A woman declaring she wants her children to become martyrs... it's not that I don't care but that she doesn't.

What's your solution to Israel/Palestine?

I can distinguish between Russian people and the evil putinist regime.

What makes you think the putinist 'regime' does not represent the 'russian people'?

There is no evidence that a significant portion of the population cares about civilian (or even russian) deaths.... there's lots of evidence they support expanding geographically no matter the cost. The size of the country is a raison d'etre for them and human costs don't enter into their calculations.

there's no fixing that (or wishing it away).

some shi*ty result considering all those civillian deaths, including children

All this time and you still don't understand that human life has no value to russians?(including civilians, including children).

you could get an impression as if the civillian population was targeted or like there was no logical target for that attack

Or that human beings would make the calculation of legitimate military targets vs civilian loss of life... but russians don't do that.

no need for making RuSSia "look bad"

This is actuallyd enlightening... russians legitimately don't get that russia already looks bad... it's not an act, they don't get it. They are really and truly surprised that people react negatively to anything they do. For themselves, they're are told to praise the war and not criticize the government and they obey. Sheeple.

There's no fixing this....

Ukraine is lying - AGAIN

russia invaded Ukraine (for no rational reason any russian or russia supporter can name).

Who is better off now because of the invasion?

Who is worse off now because of the invasion?

Why is russia rejecting peace? Who is gaining from this?

Why don't russians care about their sons, husbands, fathers dying for nothing in Ukraine?

Bobko Bobkovich

I finally realized who else he reminds me of (other than Vladimir Pozner). He's like a rusian version of Polonius3 (blast from the past!), the same aggrieved ethnocentrism, the same faked enthusiasm.

I'm now thinking he's a rusam (plastic russian) who projects a lot of idealized nonsense onto the place rather than russian russian.

Language / Question about grammar books [9]

not true. The word is still used

The book doesn't actually explain the difference (just has 'pen' as the translation and długopis is nowhere to be found IIRC).

It did lead to me, more than once, asking someone in a store for a pen only to be told they didn't sell any (while standing in front of about a thousand pens).

I figured it out but... still.... not fun memories....

Language / Question about grammar books [9]

My recommendation would be an older book that isn't a reference grammar but does a pretty good job of explaining structures in plain language

Teach Yourself Polish, by Polish, by M. Corbridge-Patkaniowska (not the later revised version by a different author which is... not so good).

The biggest problem is that some of the vocabulary is outdated (nobody uses pióro for pen anymore...) and so is a lot of the phrasing ('transposition of endings' was still a going concern when the book was published but all but vanished from modern spoken Polish).

Still, it's very good at explaining things step by step in a pretty accessible way.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation - part 2 [561]

I have no idea about this one maf....

It's not a rare expression at all... and after a time or two hearing it in context I understood it (without realizing why it meant what it meant)...

another hint: How many coffee beans would it take to weigh a metric ton?
