Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

Is polish accent attractive, charming, indifferent, irritating, confusing, ugly?

I'm Polish, but brought up in in the UK, so I speak English with an English accent. I love hearing Polish spoken, but don't like hearing Polish people speak English - I think it sounds horrible! Maybe I am alone, who knows. I expect that English people who can't speak Polish may feel differently though. Like most Britons seem to hate white South African accents, but I love them! :)

No, women are "sexy" when they sound intelligent and funny, but not stuck-up :)

I've been told by several people that I look more Italian than Polish lol.
And Spanish women seem to really love me whereas Polish women don't seem that interested. Oh well, it's their loss. haha :)

No, I don't think it's time for the Poles to go home.

I bet ola123 will be SO happy to see all the Poles come home.

At least until they all start buying property with the money they saved up, and house prices go sky-high in Poland as well. Then she will moan about Poles pricing her out of the property market, not the English! hahaha!!!! Personally I think Poland is so over, which is why I'm moving to Ulan Bator :D <g> lol

When I was there, I behaved myself! And what's more, I never spoke a word of English either... so there goes the stereotype of British tourists in Poland! lol :)

mind you, being a non-drinking English-born Pole does mean I cheated a little. <g> :)

When I meant specific, I meant some kind of a word that defines something among the same group as different or special..

but this can't always be done when translating between languages, like e.g. trying to translate phrases like nigdy nie ma into English; it doesn't quite work, grammatically, if you try and translate it exactly, you have to use different words to get your point across. though oddly enough, you can do it in London inner-city slang, e.g. I'm never on no long ting (I'm never doing/having anything dull, lol) but not in correct English as far as I can see, haha.

it doesn't mean he's 6'10". :)

and his friend said back to him, "That is not just any Elvis, but THE Elvis."

you could refer to the "ordinary" Elvis as zwykły, and "The" Elvis as wyjątkowy, originalny, or unikalny.

it's a foreign concept in PL language. read - non existant. you just have to use the proper words to get the proper meaing across.

as above; you would probably have to say something like "nie jest tylko panem, ale Wielkim Panem", I expect, to emphasise the importance of "the" in "the man".

Completely disagree, except disliking Russians and Ukrainians, and the car thieving bit :)

The Poles have nice women but I saw many stunners in the Czech Republic too.

oh g*d yes.

the most gorgeous girl in my ends is either Czech or Slovak (not sure which, I can't speak enough Czech (yet) to tell the difference; I'll wait until I hear her say Letiště instead of Letisko, then I'll know... lol :-)

All my family has only ever had good things to say about the Czechs/Slovaks, btw.

lol. but the Poles were never part of the Commonwealth/Empire, so the PC brigade are never going to allow that to happen are they. that's also why it's OK to be racist to Poles. :(

I was thinking the same thing, a bit presumptuous of LIR to assume you're single! Or maybe she's implying men are always on the look out for something better. "The ideal woman" is a myth anyway, there is no such thing!

spot on! I would never talk about my relationships (whether there is one or not) online. one man's ideal is another man's nightmare. and some of us are happy with what we have!

I'm still not convinced that Poland has the most beautiful girls in the world

they are mostly too thin and athletic for me, I need big behinds and big breasts on my women and you don't get so much of that in Polish women lol.

Maybe a poll as to which town and cities the most beautiful Polish girls can be found. I'm going to Krakow shortly, will I be pleasantly surprised there?

Not really, they don't dress as well as warszawianki, but some people prefer that.

Wroclaw (the city, not the member, lol) has the best girls.

Idiot. She's Polish and yet her English is better than yours! haha!

Cant agree, for me, they are far from beautifull, not even attractive, most of them not at all... and at the bottom of the list.

no offence intended tho, its just my preference. But yes, my foreign friends really love polish girls...

There's only one way to decide this once and for all.

A poll.

But we all know who would win the "most gorgeous PF girl award" though.
