Actually the biggest group to come into America from Europe are not the Irish, but the Germans. There's also an issue there: in 1914 it was due to this huge group of German immigrants not by all means sure that the US, should it participate in WW1, would choose the British side. After all, Britain had bugged the US for over a century.


That issue was not new at that time. When the British took over New Amsterdam and changed it to New York, two groups were living there: British and Dutch. On the vote what would be the general language in the city, and the colony, Dutch lost with two votes to English.

While they were cut off British finances, the US received plenty of help from France, always eager to pull Britain's leg and -as usual- from Holland. Actually the Americans regarded the French and especially the Dutch as their main ally, not only for the money, but also because they regarded the Dutch very highly as the founders of their capital at the time, New York. Even today, having a Dutch "van"-name (like Van Houten etc) grants you nearly an elite-status in the US.

How about the Swiss - despite the fact that there were German plans to invade the country they still kept on delivering weapons to Germany until the very end. Maybe it was just because of the threat of invasion...

Yeah, I know, that's why I said it's not specifically a Polish issue, wise guy :) But to be more specific: I've been dating this lady for a few times now, but to every date we have there are multiple cancellations for various reasons. She seems to be genuine, but I've got a gut feeling that she's bs'ing me.

Could be true, I'm 4 years here and she is 3 years here and although she claims to be a tough chick (and I've seen her give out to an unpolite deskclerk, so I guess there's some truth in that), but I made her blush a few times :), so my best bet would be that she's a bit of both: big mouth (big city grl) and shy at the same time...My gut feeling basically is inspired by all the golddiggers I encounter, and I have encountered quite a few...Comes with the job, I know, but how about when you want somebody who likes you for who you are, not what you are?

Common joke in Holland about the War is: in 1940 we invited a German friend over - he took 100,000's of them with him and overstayed his visit with about 5 years. Never again we will invite German friends over.

True, the Wehrmacht were just ordinairy German boys who were drafted and had nothing to do with the SS and extermination and so on. They were even disgusted by the SS. Hitler ordered the Einzatsgruppen to operate covertly as he feared the army would revolt against them. And there were questions about those practises on the highest levels within the Wehrmacht.

Yep Darius, they did not resemble humans with human behaviour, those Germans in Poland...I can understand why so many older Polish ppl deeply resent anything German...This is a crime and shame which cannot be undone, at least not for the first 200 years. Ok, it will become less when the last one who lived at the time dies, but still, the monuments are there: Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibor. Monuments that have perverted the Polish nation with the biggest burden one country can ever bear and it has been inflicted upon them by another country.

Filios: Pls watch the Dutch movie "Twins", which exists in an English version also, and you will know that not all SS-soldiers were perverted and sick swines.
