News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

Sure...

To give you the back story I was the guy that always argued with my and "conservative" friends and colleagues (and in my line of work then and now there were a majority of 'conservative' minded people) about how all people are basically the same inside and we should respect all religions, cultures etc etc. While I was all for protecting the free world etc I really had no idea how much truly needed protecting. They all called me a 'hippy' :)

Fast forward 15-20 years and a few wars and aid trips later and my perspective has changed in many ways. People are NOT the same all over. Some people and religions do not want peace and coexistence they want domination and control. I am not just talking the extremists I am talking about normal, everyday citizens. And don't think I am just talking about Taliban etc...Africa...South America...Asia...there are cultures in all of these places that would make you ill if you knew what things were really like.

All cultures have bad people...but some just cannot grasp respect, peace and caring. Criticize the US as much as you like...argue about members of the military that did bad things (minority) or rednecks that beat their wives (minority) but the reality is American culture as a whole is a caring culture that wants to make the world better for everyone (even if we do fall short at times).

Most of the things people complain about the US is just flat wrong...Americans are not less intelligent or world-wise than anyone else. There are plenty of Poles or Germans or French that cannot speak another language or show you Chile on a map...there is just as many drunks, adulterers and drug addicts in China or Peru or Spain as the US...the media spews nonsense all the time and people buy it because they WANT to hate America and blame us for their problems. It took me being away from home and being immersed in other cultures to get that.

I am still not religious...I will never tattoo an American flag on my arm with some patriotic slogan. But now I am much more appreciative of how kind and respectful MOST Americans really are and I understand more why we do the things we do in the world.

I think most people that scream and yell about how imperialist or violent the US is would not last a day in the cultures they are 'championing'. They truly cannot see that they are free to be such mouthy gits because they ARE Americans or Poles or any other number of free people. 99% of the time they really don't have the first clue as to what they are talking about.

Despite what so many people try and say the US does not want to impose it's culture on anyone...it simply wants everyone to have the FREEDOM to choose their lifestyle and culture and not have control, violence and suffering visited upon them.

I am to the point where I don't enjoy meeting new people here in Poland because the conversation inevitably turns to them interrogating me about why the US is so this and why Americans are so that...even if they listen to my explanations they generally seem to not be willing to accept them as it is much easier to imagine us as a bunch of uneducated, spoiled children. It makes them feel superior. I have a standing bet with my fiancee that if it takes less than 10 minutes for someone new to start in on me about how bad the US education system is she has to cook dinner. People I have just met always criticize the US as if I am responsible for all it's faults...and they normally seem to get upset if I don't reinforce their stereotype.

Somebody is bound to pick out quotes and argue but I truly don't care...this is how I see it and how my experience (which is vast...not being arrogant just truthful) has changed my vision.

If people want to make the world a better place they need to get out there and repair and redirect it rather than do self serving pointless work like selling Ferraris, giving boob jobs or writing opinion articles. OR if they want to complain and tell everyone else how smart they are I guess they are FREE to do that....whether that makes them a good person or not.

I am not showing any weakness regardless of how you interpret my words....I am simply stating how I feel about the situation..and it is not about being "Number 1" it is about reality. If Poland was the world's richest and most powerful nation stating that would not make Poles weak or arrogant....it would just be a fact. I feel fortunate that I was born in a country that people want to live in so badly they immigrate there legally and illegally in huge numbers.

I get a bit tired of non Americans always going on as if they are perfect and their S@#T does not stink. The idea that if they ran the world everything would be great. Being non-American, wearing a shemagh as a scarf, being in uni and drinking expensive coffee in a cafe does not make you enlightened.

When I left the US for the long term I was critical of many US policies and attitudes...but after having been all over the world and spent years living in many different cultures I have changed my opinions.

Poland may seem like a fantasy land for people who who have never been, left as children, or are sick of being poor in the US because they cant get a good job....but with the exception of maybe having family around them in Poland there is nothing that is going to be better than in the States. But then it is cooler to bash America now isn't it ;)

It was a jab of the pervasive racism in Poland that most Poles are not willing to admit exists.

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

Creep.

You use this word a lot...you know it really isn't all that insulting of a word in English...kind of funny actually. Might look for something new.

I dont think people OR cultures can change that dramatically. At least not quickly.

Hell there is no way I would want to live the lifestyle of a Japanese worker. I'd have a stroke.

Poland need to jump on this idea and start mass producing a cheap fuel efficient car of very high quality

Poland does not have the same work ethic and high quality control as Japan so this won't be practical.

Unless you offer people A LOT of money you will have trouble getting workers to come here en masse. Poland just not offer as high a quality of life as some other countries.

Once you tell them you are Spanish rather than an Arab or other dark skinned black haired undesirable (if you are even dark skinned and black haired...Spain has variety I know)...then you should be OK.

It is what it is in Poland...

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

OK...but if Poles are still deemed not eligible will you then say "As long as the system was overhauled" or will you still be insulted that your people are not allowed?

You don't see the English, French or Germans for example staying illegally in the US in any appreciable numbers yet it does happens with Poles(and many other nationalities)....hmm

You may have taken it as snotty but it is a fact. Loads of CURRENT DAY Poles stay illegally. I never mentioned those who escaped during the Cold War and agree they had a better excuse. Today's Poles who simply ignore the law do not. This kind of thing IS a factor in the US deciding to relax the rules. One of two things will change it...if Poles stop breaking these laws or if some sort of economic/political incentive for the US is agreed upon. More likely the latter.

I guess when Poland decides not to help America with the war on terror anymore then you can thank your own countrymen.....

Poland helps the US for several reasons....

1. They get deals on US equipment and training.
2. They want the practice and experience in warfighting so as to better defend themselves.
3. They hate the fundamental islamisists as much as anyone.
4. Diplomatic back room agreements neither you or I are privy to

If Poland stops fighting it will not be over US visas....get a grip.

I was not talking about immigrants during the Cold War...I was talking about those doing it now and knowing full well it is illegal and simply don't care.

You all do know that Americans come from most all of the ethnicities there are right? People saying someone looks "American" are funny.

About half of the Poles I know that have gone to the US (maybe 20 or so) on visas stay illegally when they expire. Everyone I have talked to about it doesn't care at all and thinks they have done nothing wrong. In Chicago especially due to the huge Polish community they protect each other and harbor loads of illegals.

If I did this in Poland they would have a fit.

For those of you that have to suffer through the difficult visa policy or are refused entry...thank your own countrymen.

so would you say "just because you have worked in (only?) one hospital - what went on there doesn't make it true for all or even most?

thanks. i rest my case.....

I never said 'one' hospital. Thus the bottom falls out of your case.

I have extensive experience in the field and what I find is a lot of people speak about the medical field and they have no idea what they are talking about. I also have attended courses and networked with professionals all over the world so I am positive I have a better handle on the realities of the systems than you.

I am not going to list the places I have worked because no matter what I write you will somehow use that against me...that is what people do when you answer their questions...they turn it on you...so no thanks.

By saying these places have the best docs around you ARE expressing a subjective opinion...much like someone who ways a certain brand of clothing or auto is the best. You have nothing but your 'belief' to substantiate the claims. Show me save rates or patient satisfaction reports stating better care than other facilities and then maybe you have a start.

I can say BMW is better than Mercedes but that doesn't mean it is true and it is entirely a matter of opinion.

so these ARE best docs in a country

This is entirely subjective...you have no proof of this you are just saying what you have heard. It is like saying a sports team is the best or a car is the best...it is just not so simple and is mostly a matter of opinion.

My point is simply that public access in the US is not as high in quality overall.

Yes I know how the payment system works in state facilities thanks...and that has nothing to do with the public vs private issue.

Unless you have worked in both places you have no real info simply what people have told you. People often speak of things they have no real knowledge of...just what they read or what their friend told them or what they experienced the ONE time they went and got a shot.

I am not sure what you are talking about when you mentioned Poland's system...there is obviously both public and private here and there is a world of difference just like in the US.

A reality in the world is the more money you have the better quality you can buy...this applies to everything including healthcare. Sure it sucks but it is real.

Listen...as to the quality of care in state funded hospitals the care is NOT as good as the private institutions. Having big docs rotate through is not the only factor...there is support staff, equipment, labs etc. If you don't have the entire care plan set up it falls apart at the weakest link and the quality will only be as good as that. Many of the treatments, meds and procedures are NOT available in these facilities. In the US the more money you have the better care you can buy...kind of like here in PL.

If these places were so great why do people pay more for private hospitals when they can?

I have worked in both and can tell you first hand. Yeah they are better than nothing especially with the pathetic state of healthcare business in the US but nobody who has a choice would go to the state hospital.

there are always government sponsored hospitals where you get care based on what you can afford - without compromising the quality.

This is simply wrong....the quality has to be compromised. These hospitals are not as well equipped and normally staffed with less experienced workers overall. Most people work for money and they go where the money is.

I worked in both so I speak from experience.

In the USa Farmers are considered rich or upper middle class.

I do not know a neighboring farmer of mine that is not a millionaire

Yet there are loads of farmers in the US who have lost their farms to the banks or can barely afford to eat.

Just because your experience is one way doesn't make it true for all or even most.

So basically those of you who advocate going to or staying in the US are doing it for the money. You use another country for money while slagging it off.

Great character.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

All guys have a pig side that hunts for sex...ALL of us...the difference is if you control it to the point of being polite and normal or if you go around like a chav.

My fiancee's friends could not believe when she told them I cook dinners, wash clothes, clean....none of their guys help out because they have had their mommies do it their whole lives and been raised to let the women do such things. Her friends think I am some kind of prince because of these little things I consider a part of sharing a life together.

Work / Why Poland employers are afraid of hiring any foreign nationals? [171]

on my current trip to poland im noticing an increasing amount of failing businesses - people who have sunk huge amounts of money into ventures that obviously wouldnt work from the off set... its kinda worrying...

has anyone else noticed this?

Yep...I have returned to a shop or restaurant many a time and it has been empty with for rent signs in the window. Oddly it seems to be the places I like most that close...it must be a conspiracy or my horrid taste :)
