Feedback / Updated rules [210]

First of all, noone ever explained it to me what is "excessive quoting", not even the admin of this forum was able to tell me that.

OK, up to 3 quotes in a message is fine, anything more than that is not.

If 13 quotes in one post are too many then how many quotes in one post are allowed on this forum?

0,1,2, or 3.

Feedback / Removal of Polish diacritical marks [45]

+ once you have the Polish language/keyboard enabled, there is NO NEED to switch it into EN (English) because PL (Polish) covers both English and Polish.

In Windows 7/10 you do it with a couple of clicks - language packs should already been pre-installed, they just need to be enabled. I don't know if you're in the right place - you need to be in Settings / Time & language in Windows.

Polish is already installed in your system - you just need to enable it. It's about installing the Polish keyboard only, NOT changing the language of the whole operating system. In Windows, go to Settings / Languages and +Add a language (Polski) - and voila, you have Polish letters when pressing ALT+letter.

Feedback / Why is the reply box now dominating the page leaving me unable to reply to a long post? [10]

I'm confused - when you type, you have to look at the other posts? What if a topic has 10 paginated pages - you open them to read the posts again to reply? It doesn't work this way for the majority of people; when they type a message, they type a message. Still, with this setting, you can more easily type and read messages above while you scroll, if needed.

Do you have Windows 7 or 10? If so: polishnewsseattle.org/info/PolskieLitery.htm (You may have multiple language in your Windows system and it takes a click to switch them).

Feedback / A draft of your message - now automatically saved in your local web browser [5]

A new feature is implemented - now when you enter a message into the post form to add a reply or start a new thread, it will be automatically saved as a draft (in your local web browser) until you actually submit the form. It will allow to compose a forum message and get back to it to add to it / edit it if needed before posting it (or just save it as a reference); it will also protect it from getting lost during a power outage. The draft of your post should be saved even if the browser is closed / computer is restarted. It is only available to you (it is not saved on our server until you click on the submit button and post it).

To clear the message, click on the Reset button (or just delete the message within the form). Logged users may also clear all form data at once by visiting their profile page and clicking on the 'Clear Form Storage' button. Guest / unlogged users may do the same from the 'Sign Up' page.

Feedback / Updated rules [210]

There are certain accepted norms in our society, certain conventions and views that are generally agreed upon.

Close to 900 people / organizations have received the Nobel Prize between 1901-2016. Would you, personally, make the same decision and award all these people the Prize? Probably not - then the 'accepted norms and conventions' is meaningless.

but that now it isn't possible to quote more than a certain amount of words

.. but you managed to get around the rule by using multiple, small quotes.. that's why this warning was created.

Not everything is fair game - the warnings are very helpful to moderators to see a pattern of rule violations or other abuses. There is no anarchy here - if there was, this topic would not exist and there would be no complaints about too much rules or lack of rules.

The whole warning system is nonsense.

So if you break a single rule, one time (could be by mistake), we should ban you rightaway?

ban *** deniers

Ok, maybe you'll come up with a list of deniers that should be banned. For a start:

- God deniers,
- Global warming deniers,
- Smolensk crash-plane deniers,
- Spherical-Earth deniers,
- Extraterrestrial deniers,
- Organic food deniers,

etc.

How would it work in your ideal world? If we start banning for opinions, where would it end?

there seems to be no consensus as to what constitutes racial abuse.

Correct - there is actually no consensus on most things.

That's news to me, I must say.

Have you missed the Random Chat topic, regularly removed from this site.

That rule simply doesn't work.

What do you mean it 'doesn't work.' - the rule states that we prefer not to discuss such topic, but we don't ban for doing so.

A set of rules is a guidance. If you regularity abuse it, you are likely to get a warning or a ban. At the same time, rules are not equal; abusing or trolling will get caught faster than posting an off-topic message, for example.

Feedback / This forum should have section under the exact title - Business [23]

And that was before Admin decided that open use of racist insults is perfectly acceptable here

This forum is for mature people who are willing to be responsible for their actions. Out of all forum members, you should be the last to complain. You've been suspended more than anybody else on this forum and 70% of reported messages have been alerted by you. It now appears your provoking messages may actually be the reason of your participation here, so it's official - your next warning = 6 month ban.

Regarding the Business category - we used to have one, but it is too general (posts related to Law, Real Estate, Law, or Classifieds were mixed together); in result, we decided to create separate forums (Work, Law, Real Estate, Classifieds) which are more logical to categorize.

Feedback / Stupid limitation on the quotation length [20]

It is not a 'short quotation' - intelligent people (all of those who participate on PF :) can remember what was said before and there is not need to quote more than one sentence max.

Feedback / Member warning system to prevent abuse / spam / off-topic posts [145]

We created the warning system to give all users equal chance and 'benefit of the doubt'; we understand there are times of provocation or 'bad day.' The majority of other sites don't use a warning system at all (it's easier to manage that), BUT they ban offenders right away. If the warnings are something undesirable, we can ban offenders right away.

Feedback / Stupid limitation on the quotation length [20]

New threads don't have this limit (it's possible to quote a larger part as a reference). It's possible to select only the gist of the message and intelligent readers will know what it was being referred too (and that way they will actually read the whole quote rather than scan).

Feedback / Member warning system to prevent abuse / spam / off-topic posts [145]

It's totally normal that some thread discussion go in an other direction. It's called human.

It's called 'moderating' to make sure discussions don't go in another direction. It's been discussed here many times and most of us agreed we should stick to the topic. This is the only way to keep logics in and chaos out.

Feedback / Is it Polish forum or foreign forum? [141]

67% of all PF moderators (Admin, Arts) have been born, raised, and educated (up to a graduate degree) in Poland. The remaining 33% (Vincent) is British. 126 posts based on misunderstanding / misinterpretation / confusion / lack of comprehension, you name it.

Feedback / Polanda - archives of off-topic / expired pages of PolishForums [3]

We are happy to announce a new addition to PolishForums: a 'sister' website named Polanda.com. Polanda is an archive of discussions originally published on PolishForums which were too 'off-topic / irrelevant' to stay on PolishForums (which is to be focused on Poland only), or expired (applies to classified ads). That way, all discussions contributed by PolishForums members will never be 'lost' (unless they are spam or clear abuse then they will always be lost along with the abusers ;). New off-topic and expired topics should be added to Polanda on a regular basis. Posters may look up their messages on Polanda by using the search feature.

Feedback / Staying on thread (re-closed) [26]

From Wikipedia: "Currently the total number of Muslims in Poland is estimated at around 31,000, most of whom are Sunni."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Poland

If someone is interested in Muslims and Islam, PolishForums is not the best place to discuss it. There may be one general thread opened, but we won't allow more just because some poster is fascinated with the subject (which evokes off-topic / unrelated to Poland posts). They will find better places for that, for example: islamicboard.com or ummah.com/forum/.

Feedback / Any chance of a sports category on PF [29]

Polish soccer league can go to Life (but in one thread, for example: Polska Ekstraklasa - Poland Soccer League Season 2015/2016 - all posts related to soccer league in Poland must go to this single thread then).

Feedback / Any chance of a sports category on PF [29]

Aren't most discussions about Polish sports revolved around hooligans? If there's some important Poland-related sports news (let's say about Agnieszka Radwanska winning a Grand Slam, Fonfara or Szpilka winning a boxing championship, Poland going to Euro semi/finals, Kubica going to Ferrari, Majka winning the Tour the France, Boniek going to play for Barcelona, etc.) it can be discussed in the News sections. We also have the UEFA prediction game in the Off-topic.

(for careful readers: one of the above examples is completely unlikely to happen ;)

Feedback / Is the Administrator of the P.F. a Native Pole ? [80]

What was said was that a foreigner living in Poland will be able to see certain things critically that a local wouldn't even notice.

+10. And by sharing both good and bad experience Poland will only be able to progress in the right direction. If the forum was run the 'Polish-style' the bad things would have few chances to be discussed because anti-Poland 'dissidents' would be silenced.

The people of Poland read the news, see the news on t.v. and are vey well aware of what is going on and from what I
have read here DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT the problems and beliefs these immigrants bring with them to Poland.

If that was the case, Poles would not vote to join the EU. It's like you bought a diesel car and later realized you don't want that and prefer a gasoline car. Poland had enough time to decide and research the laws to make an educated decision. The funny thing is most of those who don't want the problems associated with being a part of the EU have voted for it with their hands and legs.

We don't, we will just have to 'trust' the moderators to be fair and do the right thing equally for everyone.

You are welcome to share your warnings in the Random chat; we don't make it public to avoid creating gossip or giving ammunition to trolls.

I'm going to close this topic now to avoid discussions about unrelated things here; you may continue in the more relevant forum categories (unless someone has something important to add then we could re-open it).

what I mean by "Polish Run' is to have a Polish moderator

There already IS a Polish moderator who lives in Poland and he has been actively working on the site almost every day for almost a year now: ?action=userinfo&user=50742. But apparently the facts don't matter when stereotype-thinking and ignorance is in full mode.
