Law / Law for moving to Poland [3]

I plan on moving to Poland in the next year as it is one of my favorite places. I have been to Warsaw and krakow. I have been learning the language for about 6 months. I work online teaching TEFL and I want to live there for a year and then eventually apply for permanent residency if I decide to stay. My question is if I want to live in Poland and I am not studying or working for a polish company and I don't have family there am I still able to apply for a temporary residency as a US citizen? I have researched this but it is not very clear.
