Genealogy / Szeliga-Socinski Ancestors [NEW]
Good day!
I am researching my Polish heritage and the name is, Szeliga-Socinski. This is on my grandmother's father's side of the family. I have some basic information about her father, Edmunds Szeilga-Socinski, however, since my grandmother was born in Riga, Latvia, this is the Latvian spelling of their last name. I have found some interesting Polish derivations that may work; Sufczyński, Suffczyński, Suszczyński, Szuszczyński. If anyone knows if any of these equate to the Latvian, Socinski, please let me know. I'm also trying to figure out when my Socinski family was taken under the Szeliga coat of arms and allowed to use the Szeliga last name. Most of this information has been lost or forgotten and my 95 year old grandmother doesn't remember much anymore.
Edmunds was born in 1893 in Kiblicz, Podolia, which is now in the Ukraine, but was part of Galicia at that time. I know he served in the Polish army during WW1 and was stationed in Riga, Latvia where he met my great-grandmother. His father was, Ludvigs Szeliga-Socinski, but I have no dates of birth or death. If anyone can give me suggestions or a path to follow it would be greatly appreciated. I hired a genealogist last year but they were not very helpful.
