Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

The most important thing to know about bigos is: there is no recipe, there are no rules making it and everyones version is not as good as yours. Other than that, the one thing that I do enjoy most about it is no one in the USA has heard of it, but when they try it they beg me for containers of it.

USA, Canada / Your favorite USA kiełbasa? [37]

A few years ago I would agree with you. But unfortunately I think that they have closed and the place is owned by a new family with a new name. But, New Britain Market (next to bank: I love their Lesna), Podlasie (just off of Broad Street, they make a fantastic Wieskja), Polmart (great store, outstanding Szynkowa (ham kielbasa) and my favorite on the street is Zeleniak (best Ciemna, Goralska and homemade pickles and sledjie). A trip to New Britain Connecticut USA is a trip to Poland, even Pope John Paul II stopped there. There are many Polish eateries on Broad Street and in the immediate area, and the amount of money I spend on Kabanos alone is staggering! BTW off the street a bit is Martin Rosols and I have a craving for their kabanosy right now. Is Goralska the best kielbasa or is it Ciemna, ask me tomorrow and I will tell you it is Lesna.

Food / Pierogi recipe and filling from my grandmother [179]

My favorite is stuffed with meat, I get an order of them every Saturday from a breakfast/lunch place in Montville Ct and they are not on the menu. Yula and Goisha serve them with homemade fried sauerkraut and a kielbasa that Kristoff has some butcher make for them (he wont tell me where he gets it).
