News / Donald Tusk's Government of Poland Continues to Oppress Poles [161]

Interestingly enough other countries, like for example Great Britain or Luxembourg are still allowed to maintain the low VAT rates (0% and 3% respectively.)

Yes, that is because they didn't agree to raise their rates when negotiating with the EU. Which is why Poland has had to raise its VAT and branches of Mothercare near England's channel ports all employ staff who can speak French.

Life / St Patrick's day in Poland [272]

In Warsaw Jimmy Bradley's is by far the best choice. Irish pub on Miodowa is a very distant second. Patrick's is a very very bad idea, especially for foreigners.

You mean the place in which at least two expats had their drinks spiked and died as a result? Yes, that's the one. There were also some very unsavoury rumours about German paedophiles and that bar but I never heard the full story. The British guy who died at the Marriott after having his drink spiked was a bloke I drank with a couple of times. Two very good friends of mine have also been spiked there.

Almost all the furniture, the huge satellite dish, and all the regulars and staff from Cork (the place by Metro Wilanowska) moved to Bradleys! It's also the main base for the Warsaw GAA (Gaelic sports club). As for Irish embassy staff, my favourite one if them used to drink in that little two level bar on Wilcza very near the police station (you know it) but he's moved on now.

I just had a look at their website - looks quite upmarket and really rather nice,

Entirely correct.

a good place for a meal

Let's put it this way: if you can convince me you enjoyed it, I'll pay triple the cost. Although to be fair they do try very hard.

I suspect it'll be a pretty cold day before they start having wet tee-shirt contests, bingo and darts 'n doms night

You wear the t-shirt and I'll tip water over it!
Legs is also one of the very few bars with a darts board in it.

As an Irishman I find foreigners attitudes to Ireland and St.Patrick's day insulting and patronizing. There is much more to Irish culture than drink. We have our own ancient sports Gaelic football and hurling as well as our own language, music, dancing etc . etc and we have contributed greatly to the world in very field.

As a non-irishman, I agree 110% with what you said there.

The best St Patrick's day gift would be for foreign leeches like the poles to return home and GIVE US THE REAL IRELAND BACK!!

I'd 110% support that if you promised to prevent any of the Ulster 'Loyalists' from coming to Poland. Deal?

The most popular drink is bulmers cider i think. I rarely drink Guinness myself nor do my mates. Too heavy

The problem is actually that you're 13 years old and that's why you prefer cider and think Guinness is too heavy.
