Genealogy / Kuzdeba: Is My Last Name Polish? [14]

Well, my last name now is altered from when my family moved to America, but I'm just wondering - on my dad's side our last was Kuzdeba, is this Polish or not? I think my great-great-great grandfather Joseph was from Poland, but was drafted to be one of Czar Nicholas II's guards and my family lived in Russia for a while, but fled during the Russian Revolution.

I know I'm part Polish and Russian (I'm not 100% Polish, probably like 40-50%), so I was just wondering if this was a Polish last name or not - I apologize if this is a stupid question, or is a very commonly asked one.

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [554]

My connection to Poland...

I'm American, but my dad's side of the family came from Poland. My great-great-great grandfather (Not sure how many great's =|) Joseph, who is where I got my middle name from, was conscripted into Czar Nicholas II's Guard, even though he was Polish. He lived in Russia for quite a while and had a family I believe, then during the Russian Revolution he fled the country and came to America.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Since there appears to be quite a bit of Nationality-Guessing on this thread, can anyone guess mine? Obviously Polish, but what else? These pictures are a couple of years old from when I was in high school, but whatever:

Uh, if anyone is wondering about the weird dinosaur thing in the corner, we were building our house and living in at the same time for quite a long time, and I got stuck in a small storage room while my room was being built. Anyway, here's another:

Ah, just wanted to see if anyone else could see what else was in me.

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Well, as an American citizen I won't try to push my opinions on Poland too hard, however I don't believe it would be a good choice for *my* country to continually antagonize Russia. The Russians are a lot more powerful than we've been treating them.

I'm American and even if they weren't all that powerful we don't have any business f*cking around over there.. none whatsoever.

We're flat goddamn broke!

Eh, we still think we're the big boys on the block, even though it appears that we're losing a lot of influence on a global scale.

Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]

This is a picture of my great-great grandfather who was Polish-Russian and he doesn't have a big looking nose. At least, I don't think so.

Yes, we still are, but we're losing influence. Smaller countries aren't quite so keen to listen to everything we say, and people aren't bending over backward to do everything we ask of them.

my guess is you have some Greek blood :)

Nope. =P

I'm completely Polish-Russian on my dad's side, but I also have some Italian, Irish, and English in me on my mom's side. Those are all pretty small percentages though, since I think she's Polish too. I'm also 1/16th Mohawk Indian, though I don't really look it, lol. =P

Um, no one has a perfectly symmetrical face - some people look more symmetrical than others, namely supermodels, 'cause they're plastic or enhanced digitally for magazine covers. But there's small, minute differences everywhere. There really isn't anything that is perfectly symmetrical that is manmade in the physical world. Even a perfectly "straight" set of steal bars set "parallel" to each other and placed by machines will be off, even by the slightest degree, because of the smallest factors.

Er, hate to break it to you, but if you're looking at things that far back, there is no such thing as a "True" Pole. Human life on Earth did not begin in Poland, therefore it is not possible to be a "True" Pole by your definition. Most experts believe life began in Africa, and you can clarify that by running a quick search. I'm curious as to where YOU got your information on what "true" Poles look like.

Genealogy / Kuzdeba: Is My Last Name Polish? [14]

I believe I asked this question before when I first joined as to what my last name was, but I'm going to ask again, just in case anyone else might have some information...

My last name now is Farrick, but that's some sort of screwed up adaptation of what my father's last name was - when my family came over from Russia (My great-great-great grandfather was a Palace Guard for Czar Nicholas II, but I believe he was originally from Poland) their last name was Kuzdeba. I'm not sure if that's Polish or Russian - Someone told me it may well be Russian, but if there are any other opinions, that'd be appreciated.

Thanks! =)
