Travel / Driving to Poland from Ireland end of jan, Need Advice [26]

Hello Forum members, have any of you ever driven to poland in Jan I have seen on euro news of the very bad driving conditions and people sleeping been stuck in their cars overnight. I am expecting to travel on the first ferry leaving Ireland and going to france which is around the end of jan. Can you reccommnd any where on the roads I will be traveling in the direction of north poland are there any good hotels I can prebook. I drove to poland before in july with my husband and it took us 3 days from france in good driving conditions towing a large trailer. We just took sleeping breaks on the way in set down areas. However this time we our two children with us so a hotel is a must. Any advice that would make this journey safer and easier would be appericated. Thank you

I have been buying property in Poland during the past couple of years.

What an honest post I can really relate to everything you say. Have you only been buying properties whats is like when trying to sell a rural property?

Please keep it up, a lot of truth in what you say, you forgot to mention the fact that you need your place as secure as Fort Knox to protect yourself from the local disparates!

I know what you mean I have a ten foot fence, the around my house with 30ft trees inside the fence. Electric gates and and a camera on the gate. Oh yes and two crazy dogs on the lose in the garden.

Real Estate / Cost to build in Eastern Poland - Ideally per m2 [71]

Just a quick note of my experience in poland and what I have learned about building there. Bought land in 2009 3 months later applied for planning permission to build log cabin went to electric company in the same week planing permision came through. Paid for electric box to be put on site so we could sart building was told it would be there on the land at the end of the summer 2009. Summer 2009 came and went In 2010 we went to poland with the intention of building log cabin as the electric was not on the land the wooden house builders said they needed alot of electric for the chain saws so would not start until electric was connected. We went every month to electric company asking when we would get electric they kept fobbing us off with excuses after excuses. So after more than one year of getting nowhere with our building land we decided to leave poland. We left in april 2011 and still we have heard from family that in sept 2011 still no box on the land. This is the kind of crap you will be dealing with. My advice ti anyone would be not to build in poland maby buy a falling sown wreck and ruin of a house that has water electric and address already there.
