Real Estate / Can foreigners buy land, house, or apartment in Poland? [60]

the question is does the bear need permission to defecate from the ministry of agriculture?
foreigners cannot buy farming land without a permit. there is little chance that you will get a permit either. foreigners can buy land if it is a plot with planning permission.

if you want to buy farm land you will need to create a Sp z o.o.(limited company) and have a Polish partner who will have to own at least 50% of the business.

foreigners can buy existing commercial property and a house. if you want two houses the matter is more complicated so stick to buying flats where you can buy as many as you like. except don't do it at the moment as the price of flats has levelled off in most cities.

Life / Orphanages in Poland [82]

The story is about children who are left on their own when their parents leave for other European countries because of work

It is interesting that the Dutch are trying to kick out 'undesirable' Polish people and at the same time, you are wanting to write an article on abandoned children in Polish orphanages.

Might this be a piece of journalism in the style of the late Pym Fortuyn?
You might be a genuine journo with a heart but this might just as easily be muck raking
Having said that if your activities result in better conditions for kids in orphanages and Dutch people opening their wallets and making donations, then good on you

History / 'Battle of Britain' won thanks to Polish aces !! [158]

Hurrican sqdrns were largely tasked with attacking German Bomber formations while the Spitfire sqdrns often flew top cover against the German fighter escorts

absolutely correct
the spitfire was more manouverable and faster than the hurricane therefore the spitfires were intended the tackle the ME109s leaving the hurricanes to deal with the German bombers. The German bombers were the more serious threat as in the early days of BoB they were tasked with bombing the British airfields so it does not matter how good your pilots are, if they cannot return to base to refuel and rearm, you are in serious trouble

The hurricane was such a sturdy plane that one pilot who had run out of ammo used the hurricane's wing to smash a German bomber's tail to pieces causing it to crash

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [243]

Perhaps you Poles aren't really aware that there are now holes in British labouring jobs due to stingy employers only willing to hire cheap Polish labour.

What exactly do you mean? are you referring to digging holes?

Become an entrepreneur, go back to Poland

are you an entrepreneur? surely it is easier for you to pull yourself up by the bootstraps in the land of milk and honey that is the UK

rather than bemoan the lack of labouring jobs

Food / Polish name for cut of beef [29]

the quality of Polish beef is rather nasty.
Aberdeen Angus it ain't

The pork is good, the chicken is tasteless as it is usually battery raised

History / What are Poland's pagan roots? [62]

The means of pagan worship and even the types of gods can vary within a country.
Just because people in the North worship an oak tree, it does not mean that the people in the South do

there was no universal pagan church with a pagan archbishop at its head
so it is by and large irrelevent how pagans in the UK worshipped
and the reason that we know so much about UK pagans is that the Romans wrote about
them before slaughtering them

Although the Lithuanians were still pagan in the 15th century this does not mean that Polish pagans
worshipped the same gods

The greatest influence that paganism has on Poland today, is that cremation is still unpopular

History / Do you regard the Polish Communist Partizans as heroes? [36]

I think that this joker is a pretend Englishman, with such dreadful spelling and all.

indeed this may be the case although you would be surprised at the appalling spelling of a lot of English people

just ran an eye over my previous line and it looks reasonably ok :-)

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

would you say that perhaps Serbia might be to the East of Poland?

Serbs generally aligned themselves to Russia which is a very eastern european country
perhaps this explains why you think that Poland can be lumped in with Serbia as an eastern european country as
both countries are east of Yeovil

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

Yes that's right the United Nations

where is the central european classification?

there does not seem to be one

on an entirely different subject, would I be right in thinking that you are a bit of a Nazi?

History / What proportion of the Polish population collaborated with the Nazis? [125]

The Nazis were very unpopular in Norway, have you not seen the heroes of Telemark?

generally yes however
a few of them ended up in SS Wiking
who fought the AK during the Warsaw uprising

the heroes of Telemark were infact trained, equipped and transported in by the SOE

History / What proportion of the Polish population collaborated with the Nazis? [125]

yeah, however large scale collaboration generally took the form of dobbing in Jewish neighbours

there were about 3 million Poles who conveniently remembered that granny's maiden name had been Schmidt
however this was more a case of making the most out of a bad situation
nevertheless about 200,000 Poles fought for the Germans

Hitler never trusted the Poles as their desertion levels during the first world war had been high

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [125]

Polish joke - two safety pins walking along the road

'goodness I am hot'
'undo yourself then'

another one

a little boys goes fishing with his dad and his dad falls out of the boat and drowns

the police get into a boat and dredge the water trying to pull out dad
they pull him into the boat and eels have been eating the body
they have been squirming through his clothes and have eaten their way into his
body and are tumbling out of the drowned man into the boat

the policeman asks the little boy 'is this your father?'
he nods sadly and then says to the policemen
'tell you what lads, you don't fancy throwing him back in for a couple of minutes? we might catch some more'

Krakow joke - Krakowians are considered mean

little boy comes home out of breathe
'why are you out of breathe son?'
'I was running after the tram so I did not have to buy a ticket and here is the 2 zloty I saved'
father slaps the boy round the head
'next time run after a taxi'

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [125]

There is no Polish Andrew Dice Clay or Chubby Brown who has made a living telling blue jokes

Humour in Poland has tended to be aspirational and this is reflected in the fact that caberet is
still broadcast on the TV

clearly the Greeks find d1ck jokes funny and the Poles generally do not tell them
I suppose pen1s based humour is more of less universal

I have heard very few dirty Polish jokes come to think of it

only one about a policeman who had convinced a blonde female motorist that his wedding tackle was a breathalizer

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [125]

another observation

Americans tell Polish jokes

Poles tell jokes about policemen or blondes
and it is indeed policemen who are considered to be foolish

how many policemen does it take to change a lightbulb?

five. One of them holds the light bulb and the other four rotate the step ladder

taa daa!

.........pause..........tumbleweed slowly passes.............embarrassed silence............................

Jews are the only ethnic group who spreads libel around about Polish people .

oh come on

I have heard the most vile example of racism and libel directed against Poles from Swedes, German, Czechs, Slovakians, Russians, Americans and Brits

Besides which this is supposed to be a light hearted discussion on the Polish sense of humour

If you meant to say a joke this one was not so funny

there is nothing funny about racism. You are clearly a racist. This was supposed to be a light hearted thread which you hi-jacked so you could spout your vile anti-semitic opinions

Who's the native speaker here? Sorry but I can't be racist towards a Pole. Ask any educated native.

I am a native speaker and what do you call being prejudiced against another nation?
it could be Welsh people hating English people for example

What word would you prefer?
sectarianism?
discrimination?
being differentism?

Life / Never want to leave Poland! [9]

What do i need to do about residency, pesels citizenship flats etc????

shame on you two

let me light a candle rather than curse the darkness

let's assume you can find a flat without any help, although you mentioned it in your post

pick an area where you would like to live, set a budget and call some estate agents

as you have a British passport you can work here without problems
as for residency, I would not bother about it
if you want to be squeaky clean then you can go to an office which your wife (assuming she is Polish) can tell you which one and get a meldunek

you can then go to another office to get a pesel number again ask for help as I do not know where you live

there I hope that helped

if you need anything else, don't hesitate to come back

(sits back and bathes in the glow of having helped his fellow man)

in my haste to reply, you appear to have reposted

Study / Going to Medical School in Poland (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn / and others) [51]

first off, I am not trolling
I have heard some disturbing information which I wish to share with foreign medical students

I am starting to hear stories that the Polish medical universities have begun to dumb down their English language
courses as attracting foreign students is good business for them

They appear to be more concerned in getting the 9 thousand euros yearly tuition fee than providing
a robust course

as a result I know of one American student whose student loan company would not cover the cost of the
tuition fees as they would not recognise the course

another student from Taiwan had to sit the board exam back home and failed spectacularly having
done rather well in the Polish university

I have spoken to Polish medical students who have confirmed that the tests that the foreign students sit
and the ones that Polish students sit are vastly different, with the tests for Polish students being much harder

I would hate for someone to spend six years at a Polish medical university then fail their board exam back home

of course if you are European you have nothing to worry about or at least at the moment you don't

9000 euro? It's more than that - last time I checked, it was around 12,500 euro in Poznan.

in fairness it was nine grand for a dentist
I presumed that students who wanted to be doctors would have paid around the same amount
thanks for the correction

the Polish students also complain that the foreign students get the freshest stiffs come dissection time
and that the identification of body parts exam was a complete joke, as the foreigners were
given a far easier test than the Poles

I do not think that this is petty jealousy on behalf of the Polish students

Most of the international students were from either sweden or norway - close to 100% of these students were failures

I trained sports with some Norwegan medical students, utterly lovely people although they did tend to drink far too much and they were completely open about the fact that they had messed up their college exams and had no choice but to study abroad

Life / What is Poland's fastest growing ethnic group? [57]

The "Vietnamese" as a people were never our enemies

Chevy I stand corrected you are quite right.
The entire Vietnamese people were indeed not enemies of the US
It was only the North Vietnamese who were fighting with the US forces as well as VietCong based in South Vietnam

There were many Vietnamese who fought the communists to the bitter end and suffered for it, when the Americans finally had to pull out

Life / What is Poland's fastest growing ethnic group? [57]

they could take comfort in the knowledge that their deaths were probably an accident
like all the British soldiers killed in blue on blue incidents in the Gulf War and just about any other conflict where the Brits fought alongside the Americans post WWII

.........now waits for overzealous moderator to bin me thread.......... like they did with my comments about the Korean War (boo, hiss)

so back onto topic

There seem to be quite a few Chechens in Poland now.
I am starting to see a lot more African dudes in the major cities now and not as many Vietnamese as ten years ago

You don't see Georgians any more in Poland, they were really cool
I had lots of friends who were Georgian market traders

Without a doubt the fastest growing ethnic group appears to be caucasian
