Aaaah... my beloved Gród Gryfa, the city of my childhood and early adulthood. ❤️ Słupsk in 1990s was a bit like Dodge City in late 19th century, only slightly more dangerous. We didn't have Indians but Gypsies played the same role and could, on occasion, be even more dangerous - they didn't take your scalp but getting a knife

As for Gdańsk, I have never not only witnessed but even heard about any such occurrence in our schools. The difference is evident but still 8 out of 10 people in the developing world would rather choose Europe than the USA as their emigration destination. Perhaps we managed to save some of the old tribal, communal spirit, with our social-democrat safety nets for the weaker.


Christianity is the missing factor in China.

Perhaps not even Orthodox or Catholic but Reformed - I'm thinking a Wesleyan/Calvinist mix - with Methodist emphasis on simple living ("Live simply, so that others may simply live", and all that) and holiness, mixed with Calvinist fixation on self-denial. This is a valid reproach. Communalism indeed never really worked, even among the first Puritan settlers in America. People would need a very strong incentive to persist in this experiment but I think it's worth trying. Economists, theologians, psychologists and philosophers have to be employed full-time and in large numbers to present to us a working model.
