If you mean the ridiculous 1953 "waiver", then it is completely legally invalid: it was made under Soviet pressure and - what's more important:

- Polish Council of Ministers (which made the waiver) did not have the proper constitutional authority to make that decision, so it was illegal to begin with;
- it was not officially published in a way that would make it binding under Polish law, so it's a non-issue - totally illegal nonsense.

So, Poland has a completely valid legal argument for the reparations but Germany simply refuses to negotiate. I can understand the German position of simply refusing to pay for the undeclared war, total destruction of Polish economy, theft of national treasure, works of art etc., slaughter of the elites, war crimes, and 6 million murdered civilians. Whoever would want to pay for silly things like that, right? But the outright stubborn refusal doesn't mean that the "case for reparation is closed". It is not.

I know. About 10% of Polish GDP depends on trade exchange with Germany, and we are the 4th largest buyer of German goods. That's why we wish Germany all the best. If only they could somehow control the putinist 5th column, it would really help things. Germany should become the pillar and the mainstay of Central Europe, but with those AfD folks getting ready to play a more significant part in German politics, I am not an optimist. :-/

No, it's not. He called us "Afroamericans of Europe" and this is going way beyond merely criticising. And it didn't come from a Bulgarian, Spaniard or a Dutchman but from the representative of the nation who contributed greatly to the aforementioned feeling of victimhood by murdering 6 million Polish citizens in 6 years. How many European nations could sustain comparable losses without developing some sort of victim complex? It is very disappointing that you don't see how inappropriate it was from a German.

I don't predict a successful political career for him--he doesn't realise that a politician shouldn't say/write everything that he thinks. Well, among other things he is wrong - it wasn't Poland who commited "the largest mass expulsion in human history". He should go complain to Putin but AfD is supposed to be financed by Russia, so it's unlikely that he will.

We've also enjoyed great extent of political and economic freedom and benefited immensely from our membership in practically all areas of everyday life.

Poland was so weak back then. Year and a half after regaining our independence, country that had to be sewn back from three separate parts, people exhausted and tired after the Great War, no money in the treasury... damn... we had nothing back then apart from steel-hard balls. And still we managed to inflict a crushing defeat on the Soviet Union. We are incomparably stronger now.

All in all, I think we should go to war against Russia. The current quasi-fascist regime is criminal and they are going to invade us sooner or later anyway. There's no point waiting for Ukraine to collapse. Better to join forces against the common enemy now. Only logical.

I read an interview with a Ukrainian drone operator who said that Ukrainians will be able to forgive Russia in 2 or 3 generations, if they see remorse in ordinary Russian citizens. However, all they see now is support for this retarded war hence no forgiveness is possible.
