UK, Ireland / Is it good for Poland as Sinn Fein will win today in Northen Ireland [282]

why should EU will be willing to change anything?

In October last year the EU proposed several changes to the protocol including red and green lanes for goods going to the 26 counties, the UK have yet to respond. The vast majority of elected representatives in the six counties support the agreement. The vast majority of UK MPs also voted to adopt the agreement.

The EU have shown themselves to be flexible they want a mature trading relationship with all third party countries and are awaiting a reply.

UK, Ireland / Boris Johnson - is the new British PM a popular figure in Poland? [150]

The irish government was a massive pain in the neck and being as obstructionist as possible.

Expecting a partner to an international treaty to abide by that treaty is not obstructionist. Brexit and the Belfast agreement are largely incompatible, It was the UK government's responsibility to square the circle.

Edit
Every attempt to address the problem was dismissed by Johnston and co on his self serving journey to the top

UK, Ireland / Is it good for Poland as Sinn Fein will win today in Northen Ireland [282]

@Atch
Sinn Fein are well ahead in the polls, they topped the polls in the last general election but failed to stand enough candidates, their lead has been consistent for years it wasn't a protest vote. In a multi seat PR election they probably will be the largest party possibly having enough TDs to govern without coalition.

The documented corruption of FF and FG though not on a Mexican level is still proportional to the size and location of the country.

The impact on Poland will revolve around how they use their EU veto to achieve unity. The EU had Irelands back over Brexit and everyone saw that clearly.

The EU will not give up

As far as the EU is concerned Brexit is done, the withdrawal deal and free trade agreement was negotiated, ratified by the British parliament and the EU. it may be altered but not scrapped otherwise there is a very real possibility there would be a trade war. That could impact Poland for the very short period before the UK folds.

With success in the north comes success in the 26 counties. The same party in government in both parts of the island is very worrying for the corrupt right wing duopoly that have basically run the place (26 counties) since independence. Ireland is a small country so the impact a Sinn Fein government will have on the EU will be minimal except when it comes to reunifying the country. Sinn Fein will do everything to encourage the EU to support their position.

In the big scheme of things Sinn Fein and Ireland wont have an impact on Poland

News / Should Poland pay for gas in rubles? [169]

This is true, demonstrating again that this bunch of right wing nut jobs are all fur coat and no knickers.

They take from the EU and contribute nothing...see their refusal to take refugees from places their army was occupying. Now they demand the EU pay them to care for "the right kind of refugees" hypocrites.

Travel / Travel to Poland from the UK? (COVID time) [50]

Yes my friend works for Sanepid and hates it especially after they were all transferred to Covid tracing. They are understaffed and several people in her office have contracted covid. Edit: not as a direct consequence of her work.

They definitely have access to databases of positive cases including private information about their work and travel etc.

Is it possible they have access to lists of passengers of all airlines?

They have access to a lot of government databases not sure about flight records will find out and post.

Edit
Depends on where the subject lives and how many staff are sick/isolating

Travel / Travel to Poland from the UK? (COVID time) [50]

Travel from Britain to The Irish Republic is currently severely restricted due to the new variant, the only sure way to get to Dublin Airport is to travel from Britain to Belfast ( by plane) then cross the border on your way to Dublin Airport. Direct travel to Dublin Airport shouldn't be a problem however it's unethical and you probably will be turned back at the Polish airport (especially if you don't have an EU passport) at your own expense.

Just don't do it...

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [655]

You need to spray spuds to prevent blight the disease is airborne and will thrive in the right weather conditions. Warnings will be issued by various organisations in Poland, you can sign up for email alerts. The correct weather conditions for blight are a warm and humid atmosphere. The best organic compounds preventing blight are copper based, dithane is used commercially. I use Bordeaux mix which is a copper based powder you mix with water and spray directly onto the plant leaves. It's major disadvantage is that it's washed off by rain and a second spray is required. Some years you don't have to spray.

Rotating crops is to prevent soil based problems for example growing spuds in the same place year after year encourages pests like eel worm to flourish. Brassicas like cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower etc should be planted in the potato patch the following year not the other way round. Earthing up spuds encourages more tubers as they come from the side shoots of the roots and protect the plant from late frosts. Spuds are easy, when earthing up which you do about two or three times a season you can kill the weeds by cutting their roots and turning them into the soil where they will die.

Tomatoes are the same plant family and also suffer from blight, you treat them for blight the same way you do spuds. I don't think Blight is as big a problem in Poland as it is in Ireland. Get your spuds into the ground as soon as you can in case you can't visit due to the election queues and let nature take its course.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

I don't think we are all cookie cutters Barney

I'm not sure what that means, my point is that creating some arbitrary yard stick to measure people or nations is nonsense.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

All populations start with an identical spread of characteristics including intelligence, Intelligence cannot be measured those suggesting it can need to demonstrate how. People are born the same and should be treated the same.

Creating some artificial measure to rank people is unscientific irreligious and fascist.

History / Future of Kaliningrad Oblast - is it possible to annex by Poland or will it become an independent country? [137]

the Russians will sell the territory back to the Germans. That idea floated around in Russia in 1989/1990 already, if I recall correctly.

There is no way the Russians will sell their territory to any foreigners. When the Germans started murdering people for what ever legal reason they cared to invent they lost any moral or legal claim and may think themselves lucky they were allowed to retain a country.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

I think it's a shame that any country doesn't allow their citizen's the right to own firearms if they have no history of violence.

Most countries in Europe allow for that and most European countries have sensible safeguards in place to protect the public.

We have been over this countless times the simple fact remains more guns means more gun deaths.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

Economy is a great difference. Most experts believe that Pinochet`s reforms (though drastic ones) allowed Chile to become one of the wealthiest countries in South America in the longer run.

This is one of the great falsehoods about Latin America, the truth is that the fascist dictators ran out of options, their economies had been destroyed and they wanted to be rescued.

News / Poland will have a queen again [75]

Shall I continue?

Why it's irrelevant.
Tell me why children should be treated differently that's very relevant. Tell me why it's ok to call some who benefit from the state "dole scum" while other claimants are elevated to mythical status. Then tell me why it's OK for an unelected person to directly interfere in political matters.

If that is the system you like grand just don't call it democratic.

News / Poland will have a queen again [75]

All constitutional monarchies in Europe are stable and prosperous countries.

No one is denying this irrelevant point just pointing out that its undemocratic and costly to each and every country that has this odd system the fact that the most successful countries all have presidential systems is also irrelevant.

I'm still waiting for a reasoned explanation for treating children as more equal than others. With regard to the Windsors the crown estate is not their personal property therefore they are funded lavishly by the state where the money would ordinarily go.

News / Poland will have a queen again [75]

How dare anyone call the Queen of England the English Queen what an outrage but its fine calling other benefit claimants dole scum and bottom feeders? They give themselves a whole series of official .titles carried with pride, it is frankly a dead heat between the Windsors and the ex politburo members as to who had the most ridiculous chest full of gongs.

Nothing to do with Ireland (yet again) and everything to do with democracy and financial probity.....In a time of austerity increasing their benefits is totally unjustifiable to all but the mesmerised the same who believe some are more equal than others.

Please, stop with the "English" Queen stuff

She is called the English queen or the queen of England that is what people call her. It's not insulting in any way unlike the terms bottom feeders, dole scum etc which are often used to describe other welfare claimants.

Are you telling me that she is not the Queen of England?

News / Poland will have a queen again [75]

She makes over revenue from the Crown Estates

They are not her personal property.

arduous schedule she carries out.

Does she or any other members of her family work more hours than a bus driver or surgeon? Does she or any other members of her family work more hours or harder than a democratically elected person like the British PM? I don't think so yet her family are lavished with money from the state, her children are treated differently by the state and media c/f the recent phone hacking scandal and public corruption.

Harry: I know we'll find you're lying
It seems so.

The English queen takes money from the state you admitted that above. The British gov publish some of the figures, the linked report also explains the full position. This family are a bunch of scroungers costing more than any other European royal family they also cost more than any European presidential system that is not value for money.

Royalists believe that all children are equal except certain royal children who are more equal that situation is hypocritical and undemocratic.

The Belgian royal family costs the the taxpayer around 14,2 million Euro per year directly (paid out to them to enable to do their work properly) + 16,8 million Euro indirectly.
(Security alone costs 14,5 million Euro). Together 31 million Euro, which boils down to roughly 3 Euro per Belgian citizen per year. I doubt a president would cost less.
I cannot compare to the UK, because I do not know the situation there.

The English Queen and family cost £202.4 million
Queen's Civil List 14.2
Duke of Edinburgh 0.4
Property grant 15.4
Communications, media and public relations 0.4
Travel 3.9
Government departments and Crown Estate 3.9
Prince Charles and Camilla (additional costs) 0.5
Lost revenue from Duchy of Lancaster 13.2
Lost revenue from Duchy of Cornwall 24.5
Security 100
Cost to local councils for visits by Queen 26
Total 202.4

The royalty (in the UK, at any rate) don't get state money.

I think you will find that they do get money from the state

only get expenses.

At last you agree they do get state money.

So why are some children treated differently by the state if ,as I believe, all children are equal?
