One more story from old days. In mid 1980s, I was travelling to Zakopane with my girlfriend for summer vacation in a baby fiat 126p. The road to the town is extremely hilly. While driving uphill, the engine suddenly started choking. The problem vanished when the road got horizontal or downhill. Then it happened again while going uphill. Several times. I noticed a big state car service and decided to pay a visit. I told the mechanics there that i had a problem with the clutch. I knew close to nothing about car repair, I probably repeated what I had heard from sb about problems with the car earlier on. The guys at the service told me I was asking for a repair which required a few hours` work and advised me to look for the problem elsewhere. So I looked inside the engine compartment and after a short check I found out one of the electric cables (2 in baby fiat) was loosely connected. When the car was going horizontally or downhill, it worked well but stopped when going uphill.
Today when I recall my naivety with that clutch supposition I can`t contain laughter.

Today afternoon, already twilight hours, I saw a view which reminded me of the old days - namely, a car with yellow tinted head lights. In communist times, a lot of drivers used them coz they allegedly allowed better vision in foggy conditions.

A Polish woman settled in Maldives after marrying a local guy.

At first she had a big problem with local cuisine coz she hates fish.

A difficult subject. Generally, Maldivian cuisine is the only downside to living here. It's fish on fish, fish with fish and fish under fish in fish sauce. And I don't eat fish...

The beginnings were hard, I would go to bed hungry. Not because there is poverty here, but because nothing tasted good to me. Now it is changing a bit. More products are arriving, even vegetables have appeared, because there were none before. You could only dream of a tomato, and when it arrived, it was green and did not taste like a tomato.

A dish they have done very well is mas huni. The original version is with tuna, I eat it without. It is grated coconut mixed with tuna, onion, lime juice and served with freshly baked roshi, for example. It is delicious, so refreshing, light, and yet you can eat it. For lunch, I eat a salad with chicken.

Thanks to the fact that I have a lot of guests from Poland, someone always drops something off, asks if I miss anything, what I'm missing. My mother comes to visit me once a year, so she always has cabbage rolls and pierogi in her bag. I try to freeze them and when I feel like something, I heat them up. My husband really likes croquettes and pierogi with mushrooms. What I miss the most is regular Polish bread spread with butter, a slice of tomato and a lot of salt.

It also applies to cooking mushroom soup based on champignon. Mushroom should be fried before adding to the soup. I learnt about it 20 years ago by pure accident when I noticed how a female cook was preparing the soup in our school canteen`s kitchen. She explained frying was necessary for flavour, aroma and colour.
