News / Poles start to feel arrogant and superior to Southern Europeans [182]

Poles are very mixed in how they perceive themselves. That's why they look to foreigners sometimes. Some feel pessimistic and inferior whilst others feel distinctly superior. It can run along the lines of colour, work ethics or GDP etc etc. The OP likely came into contact with the latter but I don't imagine that most Poles feel superior to southern Europeans.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

I can't comment on Paris but Kraków has a stunning rynek. Kazimierz scores high for cultural value but not for aesthetic appeal. Great to see the Jewish remnants. They were well catered for. Very plain buildings tho

Very good point, bullfrog. I don't imagine the bigos in any restaurant to be better than my mother-in-law's. Babuni stuff works :) :) I couldn't agree more and it's an even more salient point when you consider that hard times are ahead of us and disposable income is hardly at a premium.

I don't mean to have digs at anyone here but it is a bit lame to pay a lot more for that which you can make at home.

Life / Mishmash facts about Poland and Poles [181]

I'm glad I wasn't eating a bacon sandwich when I read that, pawian. That's all I can say.

I was asked to contribute to a Christian fund today, aka, financing the priest's Alfa Romeo insurance renewal. No thanks. You believe in your priests and let others believe in Jesus.

Life / Mishmash facts about Poland and Poles [181]

There may be 29,000 priests in Poland, pawian, but there was only ONE Jesus. Remember that!

Well, one true Jesus, lol ;)

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Aha, so when a foreign power spews harsh rhetoric Poland's way, I'd prefer a weak Poland so me and my friends could be easily bombed some time down the line? I love your contrived logic.

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [125]

Hehehe, that's a good one :) Us Scots tend to be light-hearted and can laugh at ourselves. Quite a few Poles can too but many turn it into a mini-thesis as to why people think that way about them. They don't look for the humour but for the 'slight' against them.

Love / What strange/unnerving/funny things do your Polish wives do? [153]

I know, bullfrog. I throw stacks of cash into things as I see it as an investment in us. Maybe I should be more accurate and say 'the money she earns' and 'the money I earn' but it is, for all intents and purposes, ours. Sorry, you made a perfectly valid and sound point, bullfrog. Thanks for keeping me on my toes with regards to accuracy :) :)

Plus, I'm not going to jeopardise crucial relationships just for coloured paper. I don't see why I should have to live on less for helping many when the creeps of this world make much more for destroying the world. Screw that! I am fully behind her on that one.

One account is joint but it's for paying off the mortgage and it's from transfers from my other account.

Joint doesn't make any difference as I effectively pay for the things that matter. It's not really her fault that Poland pays peanuts to some managers.

Not really, bullfrog. It's more about me being far less comfortable with having my money run down. I need a much bigger nest egg than she does and even after 7 years here, I haven't been made privy to the Polish secret ;)
