@Bobko

... all just a political-fiction anyway. First, all those countries (maybe with exception of -stans) would have to figure out how to stop the demographic collapse.

Oh, BTW - when will the next chapter of "Państwo" be released? Readers are waiting eagerly for the continuation!

but now they are curious animals.

... and dying out at record speed; went down from over 9 million to 6.2 million in 30 years.

But brave and their girls are nice. Let's take them.

Romania

Poor man's France, but economically quite successful in recent years. Let's take them.

it's no good to have NATO so close to our second largest city.

Good point. Let's take them.

Who else... Finns (brave and ingenious), Yugos (or Crow will hate us), Greeks perhaps?

Plus North Koreans, Mongolians, all the Something-stans, Armenia, Azerbadijan, Georgia. Hmm... it indeed sounds like Warsaw Pact on steroids. :)

... and if we managed to include Turkey, we would really start looking seriously scary!

German discipline, Russian raw horsepower, Polish messianism, Hungarian trauma

... and Ukrainian cruelty. We would be scary. China would have to stock up on diapers.

For practical reasons we would have to include Czechs and Slovaks too, so add Slovak treachery and Czech sense of humour to that list.

I think very low.

Maybe 5% of nominal strength.

*a sigh of relief*

no one suffers like infantry

Yes...

Nie grają im surmy, nie huczy im róg
A śmierć im pod stopy się miota
Lecz w pierwszym szeregu podąża na bój
Piechota, ta szara piechota.

... fair play to infantrymen.

Poland is already struggling with the refugees that have arrived so far from Ukraine

No, we're not. We have record-low unemployment despite all the Ukrainians here.

most battle-hardened soldiers on the European continent

The most battle-hardened soldiers are already dead after 3 years of the war of attrition. Every month they are replaced by new conscripts of ever declining quality.

they view Russia as an ally

Russia doesn't care how they view her. Without NATO protection Germany would be vulnerable. AfD wouldn't risk that.

How would that be in Poland's interest... let's see...

Millions of Ukrainian refugees would travel to Poland (and not allowed into Germany ofc)

Poland is in the state of demographic collapse; millions of white, Slavic Christians would be a blessing.

Poland has also now a long border from Kaliningrad to Lwiv with Russia and its' proxies.

Poland's border with Ukraine is shorter than our border with Slovakia, so it wouldn't extend the border that much. Besides, neo-banderist Ukraine where Waffen-SS units and UPA genocide perpetrators are still celebrated as heroes is not necessarily a friendly country. The collapse of Ukraine, or more likely the creation of a smaller and weaker Ukraine, would not necessarily be bad for Poland.

supporting Poland/Eastern Europe would become next to impossible without Germany

As far as I know there have been some voices of criticism of NATO from AfD politicians but, as a national party, it has not adopted a formal policy of leaving NATO and I don't think they ever will (Russia is too unpredictable, as we have seen, for them to risk such move).

why are Russians willing to make good relations with Germany but Poland is unable/unwilling to?

It's easier for Russians - you are not seen as a threat to them. If Poland had the largest territory and the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, it would also be easier to be friendly with Germany for us.

As it is, your economic and political advantage are still seen as a threat. Not to mention that you commemorated everyone and their grandmother who suffered from the German hands in WW2, but Polish victims of the war still haven't been properly commemorated by Germany, 80 years after the war ended.

Also, German society is mostly modern and liberal whilst Poles are conservatives and more religious. Not many common platforms of understanding there.

If certain conditions are met, Poland and Germany could establish a profound understanding.

... and it would to have to be a lot of conditions: the Central Transportation Hub, navigation on the Oder River, the expansion of the port in Świnoujście, even the exploitation of newly discovered oil deposits in the Baltic Sea - are all developments that certain circles in Germany do not approve of and even complain about. Add to this all the mental ecotardation of the EU: no combustion cars since 2035, the CO2 emissions trading system (ETS) that is stifling our economy, Fit for 55, the Green Deal, the Mercosur deal that can destroy our farming, the metan directives for mines, EU Taxonomy Regulation - limiting cheap gas, nuclear and coal energy... I could go on.

Sometimes it seems that any sort of common sense agreement with Berlin-Brussels is impossible.

Poland definitely needs to change its medial tune

German medial tune towards Poland is not all rosy either. Maybe AfD could change that... provided they don't get too cosy with Russia.

the whole nine yard!

Yes, there is always this threat. That's why Poland can never become properly European (whatever that means in current conditions) because we are doomed to alliance with the USA. We are not Washington's Trojan Donkey - this is simply our survival strategy.

A very interesting article by Jarosław Lindenberg in the latest issue of "Do Rzeczy"...

dorzeczy.pl/kraj/758058/niemcy-nie-takie-straszne-mateusz-morawiecki-sie-myli.html

... the author argues that AfD's program is largely aligned with Poland's strategic interests, and that if AfD were to form a government in Germany in the future, we would gain a very strong ally in the fight against threats to our national sovereignty (namely, transforming the EU into a European superstate and uncontrolled mass migration). Lindenberg also writes that AfD has the highest proportion of Polish-speaking politicians among German parties and that during the PiS government it was the only German party in the European Parliament that systematically and publicly defended Poland against accusations of violating the rule of law. After Tusk became the PM, representatives of Alternative for Germany (the most well-known being Tomasz Froelich, a politician of Polish descent) repeatedly spoke out on Polish issues and accused the European Commission of applying double standards depending on who is in power in Poland.

If Poland moves right in the 2027 elections (I'd say there's about 95% chance of that happening), and AfD enters government in Germany, then it might mean the opening of a new and very interesting chapter in Polish-German relations.

that is incapable of independent life

Ever heard of "partial birth abortions" in which it is legal to murder a perfectly healthy child?

it is legally permissible to kill this child during birth, on condition that the child still remains partially inside the uterus (...) infliction of so brutal a form of death penalty on an innocent child is explained by the presumption that the child is not a "person" until his or her birth is complete.

vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/family/documents/rc_pc_family_doc_20030331_partial-birth-abortion_en.html

9th month of pregnancy, perfectly healthy child...

Still want to talk about "fetuses" and being "incapable of independent life"?

France, Spain and Belgium are fed up with what is happening in Gaza

France has one of the largest Muslim populations in Western Europe, small Belgium has over 1 million Muslims, visible especially in cities like Brussels where Muslims may represent over 20% of the population. In Spain there's about 2 million muslim migrants - a small but very vocal minority. Riddle solved.

They have no capacity to admit any wrongdoing (...) they are Elves. Elves are perfect

Tell me about it.

That's exactly what a certain lovely Khrystyna was explaining to me passionately: that they never invaded anyone, never hurt anyone, were only fighting invaders in their lands, and only defending what was always theirs. And you know what... she had a brother on the frontline, was in a foreign country, and had some Polish girls being not exactly nice to her at work (envy!)... and I - the stalwart Kania, the Polish-to-the-core Torq, the anti-banderist legend of Gdańsk and beyond... I had no heart to argue with her and prove her wrong.

I am such a wimp in the real life. :(

It cannot provide the same "brain f*ck" as Catholicism or Orthodoxy can.

Hmm... debatable.

The Arabic language somehow magically clings to your memory once you memorize something in it. I still remember some prayers (for various occasions) that Ahmed taught me about 20 years ago, and I suppose praying 5 times a day, at set times, with all those regular movements and rhytmic incantations, can properly affect your brain as well. Not to mention that Muslims have some top class and highly intelligent preachers (Khalid Yasin, Ali Hammuda, Mufti Menk, Hamza Yusuf, Hakim Murad - to name just a few).

I don't especially like Islam and Muslim immigrants in Europe (self preservation instinct, I guess) but one has to admit that they do what God ordered us to do - be fruitful and multiply. So, maybe they are right and we are wrong... may Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) have mercy on me if that's the case.

Internet and forums like this one are therapeutic...

Safety vent :)

Jews, Poles, Muscovites

These days there probably aren't that many Jews in Ukraine, and Russians are too similar to Ukrainians to make genuine hatred possible, so I suppose we are on the top of the hate list today. Oh, well... it's nice to the number one at something, I guess.

I'm not a big fan of Muslims.

When I lived in Dublin, I met a guy called Ahmed who was running a local Internet cafe; he was the funnies c*nt in the universe and we got on legendarily well. Then, I joined this Turkish forum (aaaaah... memories...) - it was a difficult love but a love nonetheless. :)

I used to be a bit of a German-sceptic too... then I met BB :) Russians, of course, were the legendary Mongols from the East our grandmothers used to scare us with... then I met this guy Yuri from Klin (and, of course, Bobi and Veli later). :)

Hm... maybe Internet is not such a tool of Satan as some people depict it. ;)

killed their husbands, and planted their Orc seed

A rather ungentlemanly thing to do, but that would mean that their daughters, long time ago, were already half-Germanic, half-Slavic; and as we know from history the Germanic husbands came back with a vengeance (more than once!) and planted their seed, so it all mixed again. So, Slavs fought back and... etc. etc. etc.

Of course, Mongols, who are not Slavic, and Turks rolled over our lands more than once too. Some Tatars even stayed permanently. We mixed our dynasties (and genes) with the Balts as well (the whole Jagiellon dynasty). Swedes did their part, and we had throngs of Italian and Dutch settlers. Jews were always a closed community... but not THAT closed; in Austrian partition all sorts of mixing was going on... and so on.

To talk about nations today in terms of genetics would seem to be slightly retarded.

What? Wait a minute... so Poles are Germanic from our mums' side?

So, I now have to switch from pan-Slavism to pan-Germanism?

What about Serbians? Are they Germanic too? Where is Crow when we need him?

Then tell the EU to shove it and be proud and independent.

#278

that was the needed millions/billions to build up infrastructure and to bring the industry up to standard

Sure, I know that. But still - that's about 20 bucks a month per capita, whilst Polish GDP is $26,810 (nominal) and $55,190 (PPP).

Don't get me wrong, BB, the money was very useful, especially in the first phase of the transformation; but the way Poland looks today is the result of millions of Poles working their arses off in two (sometimes three) jobs, doing overtime, creating their businesses, going abroad and sending money home, saving, investing and building a better and richer Poland for our children. That's why it annoys me when somebody (not only Ukrainians) makes it sound like Poland got rich only because EU flooded us with money.

so our net gain is €170 billion

Damn it, I just realised that €170 billion divided by 40 million Poles is about 4200 euro... divided by 20 years is 212,5 euros!
So, every Pole got about 213 euros a year, for 20 years from the EU. That's about 18 euros a month!!!

18 f*cking hard-cash euros a month - that would be enough to pay for using PF! ($20 seems to be an average contribution).

Hmm... maybe those Ukrainians are right. Maybe it was the EU money that made us so stinking rich today! :)

why all that hate toward Trump?

I suppose it's because he killed the legend.

The legend of freedom and democracy and noble American knights fighting for it. The legend of the USA standing up for everything good against everything evil. The legend of common values of the Western World being more important than money or current political gains.

He is the guy who came into a room full of kids and said: "There is no Santa Claus, you little retards!".

Hence the hatred, I suppose. Nobody like when his legends are killed.

decline it and never let them blackmail you

Oh, I would. Right away.

There is no such thing as free money - there are always strings attached. Wealth is built by hard work, thrift and discipline, not by handouts. Polish politicians, however, are much more easily bribed than I am. Alas.
