It's doing better than all its neighbors except Germany, and is perceived as being less corrupt than Italy. Top 20% of nations globally is not sharing reputable company? What kind of candyland do you come?

Life / I saw Polish nationalism today [249]

At that point yes, but I don't think they believe in an Utopian race that should take over the countr/Europe

Heh, but, as an ideology, how would you classify them?

The Nazi platform doesn't say anything about taking over Europe and ruling others.

people.westminstercollege.edu/faculty/mmarkowski/H113/AH/platform .html

Replace "German" with "Polish", and you'll probably find quite a bit of agreement with the nationalists.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you have Polish parents? That is, parents born and raised in Poland? Do you speak Polish with your parents?

Hmm I wonder why?! But their Nazi's right?! They must be some kind of non-Hitler gloryfying Nazi's! It all makes sense!!! Wooooh!!
(sarcasm was used during my commentery)

It does make sense. National socialism as a political ideology doesn't need Hitler. It's a simple mix, nationalism and socialism. Which is what these guys want. Proud on the nationalistic side, and take care of their fellow workers on the socialist side. That's Nazism in a nutshell.

History / POLES NOT KEEN ON REPRODUCING? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GERMANS AND RUSSIANS? [67]

What the smaller populations that dont even know what the next village is doing, thats what were talking about here.

The Swiss definitely know what is going on in the next village. Here too, smaller doesn't somehow equal ignorant of your surroundings.

Or are you talking about something else?

What I mean is 20m people sitting on top of 24b tons of coal is much better than 40m people.

Classroom sizes of 30 to a teacher are worse than 15 to a teacher...

If the age groups are balanced. What Europe is heading into is a huge amount of retired people and less and less workforce. That means the workers will be taxed more and more.

Ahhh, the welfare state :( The great Ponzi scheme...

Only if its well managed and under the international radar. Dont forget money drives everybody.

If it's not well managed, the people will revolt.

Love / How to find Asian Girlfriend in Poland [56]

what are Arabs classified as? Asians or Middle Easterners?

"Arabs".

I'm sure you can find a Vietnamese girl in Warsaw or some other major city

quite a few in the Czech Republic as well. I know a handful of people that are married to Vietnamese (men and women).

History / Are Poles happy with the current Polish borders? [134]

But Americans are the dumbest people in the world.

That explains all the Nobel laureates and why so many people from around the world are going to US universities. I suppose it also explains the raft of innovation coming out of the US.

Sure there's a healthy layer of stupid (mostly homogeneous groups btw) , but floating on top of that is the best that mixed genes have to offer.

Polish borders are alright. Afterall, the land is secondary right? It's the spirit that counts (or so I keep getting told).

I used to write here alot, but not now so much - busy, family =).

No doubt, welcome back :)

but in Europe it has a much more broad meaning

We include the 'stans over here, and India. That's about the only difference :)

We don't like our neighbours. They don't like us. With the Ocean around it's not a real problem.

I'm sure after a while there'd be some talk about oppression from the ocean, how it's unfair that the ocean is so big, and that Poland could take on the ocean if need be :)

Poland society requires people to integrate or leave, you won't see that here in our lifetimes.

do you think that they are popular in Poland?

It's all relative. There aren't many marching in the streets on the 4th of July.

I know about white supremacist and neo-Nazi prison gangs, but they're on the fringe of the society, life sentence, nothing to loose type of people etc.

That's actually a great point. I mean, how many times in your life have you ever seen a white supremacist? Not someone who's racist, but one of those guys that goes out an marches and has copies of the turner diaries stashed under their bed?

Honestly, I don't really understand. What are the nationalists out there promoting? Poland has been doing pretty damn well considering everything. We all are looking for instant results while the slow march of progress continues. The roads are better, more people are employed, wages are up, people are living longer, they have WAY more opportunity than 10 years ago...

Anyone that thinks that Poland is worse off now than 10 years ago has been sniffing some of that fine Polish glue.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

Polonezkoy

Wow, the story behind that town, and Polish-Turkish relationships is amazing.

From the wikipedia entry:

Polish-Turkish relations have been good since the 18th century, and the Ottoman Empire was the only major power in the world which never recognized the dissolution and partitioning of Poland between Austria-Hungary, Russia and Prussia, while Constantinople (Istanbul) remained as the only capital city in the world to maintain a "Polish Ambassador" until the end of the First World War and the subsequent re-creation of Poland.

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

You should probably check minimum wage if you wish to scare yourself.

I'm keenly aware of what minimum wage is. Digging ditches and pulling compressors and condenser coils out of refrigerators and heat pumps paid exactly minimum wage. Hey, so did slinging tacos.

Nope, pretty happy not having to do that. Just like all those Poles that have figured out that with a bit of effort and forward thinking, you can make a lot of money.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

They must be just working here, there are 10 millions of "Plastic Polish" or Polish-Americans in the US. 4 % voted so 96% don't give a sh!t.

96% don't have passports for whatever reason (parents weren't Polish maybe?).

quite and few? The US is the size of Europe. Texas is twice as big as Poland, it's simply impossible. Besides, look at second point I've made.

They're set up in areas where there is a large concentration of Poles. Hell, they even have one in Anchorage for the 50 registered voters up there :)

First of all if a person is born in the US they cannot vote in Poland, I've checked that. They would have to jump through serious hoops to be able to do that.

If they have a Polish passport, they can vote. Just under 40,000 Poles in the US are registered to vote.

Apparently there are quite a few polling stations that are opened during the elections.

Language / Free Polish books online? [7]

Does anyone have a good link for free Polish books I can read online? I need really basic books, maybe childrens stories for now.

You know what helped out for me, it'll sound stupid, comic books. Easy to follow, easy to learn.

Wasn't it our Gen. Patton who wanted to move across the River £aba and finish the job by rolling back the Soviets

Patton wanted to incorporate the Wehrmacht and roll on East. Ike and FDR/Truman wanted to prevent a bloodbath.

USA, Canada / Your favorite USA kiełbasa? [37]

Does Poland have thousands of small butchers making their own interpretations of kielbasa?

Yup. But, the majority of sausages here though are produced by a handful of companies. Most "butchers" unfortunately rip open the same brandname bag of sausages and then hand them or throw them under the glass.

In the US, Conservative supporters are some of the most vocal backers of Israel as our partner in the middle east. Just ask trener if he supports a strong Israel.

Republicans are the most vocal backers of Israel. There are a number of Jewish Congressmen with an R behind their name as well.

Aren't quite a few Polish-Americans blue collar workers? As in, union members? They're not really known to vote Republican.
