AI will eventually kill all the psychopaths

There's a theory that when a narcissist interacts for a long, intense time with AI they unravel mentally....

I, not a narcissist, can't stand interacting with AI....

That is in effect Socialism.

No, it's managed capitalism. If the means of production are privately held = capitalism.

I'm all in favor of things like social safety nets and government built infrastructure and public education and taking into account systemic effects of policy (not done at all in the UK in the 1980s-90s which has led to current third world style inequality*).
But again, name a country where the means of production are not privately held....

*according to a bunch of youtube videos I've seen, the one below is pretty representative

Socialists are not idiots and some of their ideas actually make sense

What country has put the means of production in the hands of the workers?

Really.... it, like communism, is at present impossible.

The welfare states (like Scandinavia, the real model that Solidarność wanted for Poland) was/is capitalist.

There's one system that works in the real world - capitalism. But it does need.... managing which some countries do better than others.

Wasn't sure about a better place for this....

If I tell a million people to violently attack you, I'd get in trouble anywhere.

Of the three tweets only one had anything remotely like a call to violence and that was in a context of self-defense and obviously meant ironically... 'punch' and 'balls' don't normally go together...

And did this person who openly and publicly called for violence face any legal consequences?

x.com/LauraBeckerReal/status/1677817312139935745

GC twitter account MaryCate Devley regularly collects violent rhetoric from 'trans' activists (including Brits) and their 'allies' and AFAIK none of them have ever been questioned by police...

And there's this charming AGP...

x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1859975927008215146

The current transgender 'movement' is an arm of neoliberal policy (now primarily left and not rightwing anymore). Details available if requested.

Life / Do colored immigrants in Poland function better than in Western countries? [295]

Meanwhile, in Germany.... doctors are getting lessons on how to counter knife attacks by white women by swinging a towel at them...

Who knew knife crime by white women was such a problem there?

x.com/visegrad24/status/1962551446265618863

And in England.... a child rapist is let go because he didn't know that raping children was illegal.... but Graham Linehan for sure knew that tweeting mean things about autogynephiles was illegal....

There are many more of us.

Bye bye plans for reduced police force.... it turns out that letting in hundreds of thousands of young men from chaotic societies who are unable to function in a western high function society

How common is this kind of thing now compared to before 2015...

In what possible since was 2015 a success?

Hard to know why he did it.

He's used to taking things from people would be the obvious explanation....

And he's so self-absorbed that he simply didn't think anyone would notice.

the only one (beside you) who still stubbornly insists it was the right thing to do, is Merkel herself!

Apparently she recently said she had no idea it would be so difficult to deport those refused asylum....

What a dreadful leader... in office about 7 years too long....

News / Poland Sports News - part 2 [76]

At this year's US Open Polish players are doing pretty well so far..... Polish fans.... less so.

After winning his match, Kamil Majchrzak offered his hat to a boy in the stands when an adult man snatched it from Majczrzak's hands.... as it turns out this 'adult' is most likely Piotr Szczerek, head of a company called Drogbruk

Then his supposed lawyer writes a press release designed to make everyone hate Szczerek...

x.com/wojtek1425/status/1961624324965572641

Majchrzak has publicly reached out to try to find the boy so he can give him a cap.

Awaiting further developments....

History / 81st Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising [72]

real communism didn't exist, or it existed

"Real" communism has never existed anywhere.... even the cccp never claimed to be communist. Communism could only be achieved after a transitory period of socialism.

The problem was that socialism sucks and destroys economies (despite what marx thought) and so the level of prosperity needed for communism could never come into being.

Off-Topic / Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! [21]

Unrelated question.... does anyone know off the top of their heads what kind of family/hereditary model is traditional in Ukraine?

I came across this video and now I'm wondering...

youtube.com/watch?v=-RFFwhbVqeU

russia followed the 'exogamous communitarian' model (more closely than any other) with patriarchs having absolute power over their adult sons and their wives... these societies tend toward totalitarianism being controlled by unaccountable absolute leaders (putin and xi being prime examples)

Poland followed the 'egalitarian nuclear' model with all sons inheriting equally (lots of tension between equality (redistributionist populists) and freedom (capitalistic technocrats) as seen in current Polish politics)

Germany followed the 'authoritarian' model with only oldest sons inheriting... (capable of rapid transformation and concerned with perpetuating the lineage and when under attack will never. give. up.).

Ukrainian response to the russian invasion suggests an authoritarian family model....

(nb of course no society perfectly matches one model as there will be regional differentiation and other factors that affect implementation).

History / 81st Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising [72]

Just like Polish communists after 1990.

Compared with some other countries (Czechoslovakia, DDR, Bulgaria, Romania) the PRL was pretty chill. It didn't feel like that to many Poles but lots of things went on that were unthinkable in those other countries...

the equivalent of Pewex were off limits to citizens in the other countries but Poles were encouraged to use them, there were attempts to maintain relations with the diaspora, the church functioned as a de facto opposition party, talk with people (or people who lived in the cccp) and the differences were very stark.

This leads to the paradox: The easier a time a country had during communism, the harder it will be to figure out who can/should be excised from public life.

In the DDR and Czechoslovakia it was easier to figure out who to prevent from holding office. In Poland... it wasn't so clear.

Also, in Poland (I don't know about other Eastern Bloc countries) there was a large gray area between members of the communist party and those with no connection... people with connections to the party but who didn't belong and a fair number of party members did so merely for work-related purposes...

It's a tough question that will only be resolved by time.... (society changes, they say, one funeral at a time).

just as Khrushchev gave Crimea to Ukraine

That's kind of a myth.... not even Kruschev could just arbitrarily do that. It was based on real policy and even a kind of attempt (by weird soviet standards) to make things more efficient.
It was dependent on water from Ukraine (so easier to coordinate in the same ssr) and they wanted to improve agriculture (Ukrainians have always been better farmers than russians).
The idea it was some kind of spontaneous gesture or whatnot is a russian propaganda lie.
Stop believing russian propaganda!

History / Poland's borders throughout history [47]

The term "occupied country" is logically valid and widely used to describe such nations

Like the Baltics after WWII until the end of the ussr.

Lots of cases with overlapping border claims (as in Latin America where the maps of a number of Spanish speaking countries overlap a lot).

And there are cases where no particular solution seems in sight (IINM Western Sahara.... forget what the current status is).

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation - part 2 [816]

Charm doesn't really fit here, but spell does.

"Charm" wouldn't work but "a charm" works (widely understood as a tool of magic).

In English nouns often change meaning depending on whether they're used as count nouns or non-count nouns, like paper (papier) a paper (gazeta)

He and Schell were both nominated in 1961 for JaN but Schell won.

Life / Life in Poland for Indians !!! [55]

Drop some pro tips to survive this cold

Tone down the language, no one in Poland wants to listen to purpose prose in a foreign language.

And as Lazzie Baby said, layers. You might look into long underwear (though I ended up not needing it more than a few times).

The key is to have a really good outside jacket (kurtka). Then most of the time a t-shirt under a shirt will be enough (light sweater over the shirt).

Also experiment until you find what works for you. I remember getting leather gloves but they just made my hands freeze more so I dropped them. Also something for your head, like a cap is indispensable.

By the time it gets super cold you'll be more used to the weather.

Also note: Many people find, like I did, that the cold was easier to get used to than the dark. By mid-to late November it gets really dark really early, by 17.00 or so.

the EUR is obsolete and cannot work ?

In its current form it's not flexible enough. It was created for Germany's manufacturing economy and is terrible for more service-based economies.... it's a bit like 'industrialization' in the communist period.

Have Greece and Spain recovered yet?
