@Ironside, your opinion stems from your selfishness and lack of empathy towards women and girls. You like how things are in those cultures because men have it better than women in those cultures.

You think you know better than those societies and those women.

Honestly? Yes, I do. For example, in India women and girls are considered worth less than men and boys. This has detrimental effect to their lives. It may even result in them not being born at all - just because they're female. As a woman (and every normal human being really) I have the right to judge such culture for what it is if I feel like it.

And, anyway, which women? Many women rebel against their own cultures in those more conservative, patriarchal societies.

What is it called - cultural imperialism?

No, just being a decent, logical and empathic human being.

At home, you don't need to wear anything; going out, you need to conform to the social norms anyway.

The question is whether those social norms are reasonable and fair. But in Iran it's a law and not some universal "social norms".

Make them feel like victims and point a finger at men as the culprits of women's misery. Those are nasty, sinister people - feminists.

No, nasty and sinister people are misogynistic, selfish a$$holes like you. I hope the likes of you will die out one day like dinosaurs.

That's pretty well any tram in Warsaw.

There you go then.

There's always Free Bleeding

Or free peeing and free sh1tting lol Try it yourself and report back if you liked it ;D

Iran? A big population and what you get in one place isn't what you get in another.

The law is the same all over Iran.

@jon357, "junk" is a slang expression. I've seen men using it, so what's "negative" about it?

Nobody would force you

I would be forced to see it, even if just accidentally walking down the street.

Would you be disgusted though?

Yes. Or disturbed or scared - depending on the situation. Either way - it would make me feel uncomfortable.

Anyway, you can see more on displaying its covered by fabric sometimes.

What?

Also, another thing - the smell. Quite a few people don't wash themselves often enough and I wouldn't want to be forced to feel the odour of someone's unwashed private parts when I'm entering a bus or a shop during summer.

And women and girls would have to wear panties during periods anyway.

This is a long way from America's illegal attack on Iran though.

Well, you took it in this direction in your #566 post.

Why would it?

Ask men.

There's plenty of beaches in Poland where people go without clothes. It's no big deal.

Those beaches are for the willing though. I'm unwilling and I don't want to be forced to see some stranger's junk and witness some stranger getting aroused by my body.

There are anyway.

But at least I'm not forced to witness their arousal in full display in public. For me as a woman - this fact makes me feel better, safer, more comfortable and less disgusted. It's the same for young girls - trust me, I was one.

The clothing is just something outsiders see.

And it became a visual symbol of Islam's attitude towards women.

It's generally self enforced among women.

You would be "self enforcing" it too, if not wearing it would mean getting harassed or raped.

Also, in many cultures misogynistic traditions are passed down to young generations also by women. I think you're intelligent enough to know that this is how those women were raised and that's all they know and understand.

I myself and my brother were dragged to church every Sunday by our mother when we were kids. My brother was first to rebel. Then I followed. We could do that though because Poland is still a pretty secular country, unlike some other countries outside of Europe (not only Muslim ones).

That happens anyway.

And more would happen then.

Generally when the novelty wears off, nobody notice

Maybe that would happen in case of many people, but there always would be some perverts that would get aroused nonetheless. I don't like the idea of witnessing a paedophile getting aroused by my naked little daughter. The thought alone makes me feel sick. No, thank you.

Some people 8n Europe wear hijab. Does that trigger you?

No, it just makes me feel sad. Because apparently those women were led to believe that there's something wrong with a female having hair on her head. It's obviously stupid.

What does bother me is Muslim parents (in the West or elsewhere, it doesn't matter) forcing little girls to wear hijab. What the f*ck is "indecent" about a little girl's hair?? 🤦

Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

Ah, Paul the Misogynist. That's just one of the letters though. Jesus hasn't said that in any of the Gospels. In Islam it's allegedly a direct requirement from God for a woman to cover her hair.

walk down the street naked and fully aroused, what's the problem?

Men raping women and girls would be the main problem. Also - hygiene. Even in the Amazon people are covering their "lower regions" - I'm guessing they do that for a reason.

I personally wouldn't want to see random people's intimate parts in full display. Those parts have sexual functions and are being covered for a reason. Hair on your head have no biological sexual functions. There should be some common sense applied. 🤔

They are in much of that region

There you go.

There is no reason to assume that European dress is in any way superior or a better option.

I find any religion/culture telling people female hair offend God to be retarded and inhumane and deserving of becoming obsolete.

Do most women hate men?

I don't know, why don't you ask them? It's Ironside and men like him blabbering that feminism makes women "hate men".

The law in Iran doesn't force anyone to wear full hijab. Only a headscarf.

It doesn't matter. Women are required by law to cover their hair in Iran. That's the point.

Most however choose to wear it since that is part of their culture.

How do you know that? The protests in Iran have shown that many are against it.

The "coat" is the niqab. That's more an Arab/Afghan thing.

Hijab is just a scarf.

I know what a hijab is. It was jon357 who compared it to wearing a coat in Europe.

No, it is not, a decent wear and hair covering, for example, a scarf. Not a big deal.

It's not "a big deal" for you because you're a man and you're not forced to wear it every day for the rest of your life.

You see, this is what makes women hate men. Not feminism, not any propaganda. It's men's selfishness and lack of empathy towards women.

Learn manners.

Liars, bullshitters, manipulators and demagogues don't deserve my manners.

Part of their culture, and very widespread.

This thread is about Iran and it is forced by law in Iran. You compared it to wearing a coat in Europe which is not forced by law or even culture - you put a coat on when you're cold, so cut the bullsh1t.

I'll write what I want. Who the hell do you think you are?

You mean you will bullsh1t, lie and display your lack of empathy whenever you want? OK. But I will call you out on your bullsh1t.

There is nothing wrong with forcing women to dress appropriately.

Would you be saying the same if Muslims started immigrating to Poland in bigger numbers and in order to accommodate them Polish schools would tell Polish girls to wear hijabs and cover their arms and legs even during summer? I wonder how you would explain it to your daughter - that she can't take off that rag from her head during summer despite feeling hot, because some "brown men" may rape her.
Paulina

News / The Iran war and Poland [826]

Just like many women in Europe, they'd put a coat on to cover revealing clothing if they went outdoors.

Cut the bullsh1t. Wearing a coat by women in Europe is optional. You're not forced to wear a coat in summer. European women also can wear revealing clothing if they want to - they have a choice. Wearing a hijab is obligatory in Iran no matter the weather, even if it's hot, no matter if you're inside a building or outside.

So don't write things like "Just like many women in Europe", because comparing wearing a coat by a woman in Europe because of cold and wearing a hijab that is being forced upon on women by a religious law in Iran is simply dishonest.

Unfortunately I do not have the name of either unit in Polish.

So how do you expect to find any information about them?

That letter that your grandfather wrote when he was applying for vet benefits - where was he applying to? What does that letter say?

and is in German and I am not fluent in German.

Get it translated then. Or for now take a photo and post it on the forum - we have German forum members, maybe they would have a look at this document.

Your grandpa was a Volksdeutsche.

That's my guess also.

It's not likely he was captured at all.

Well, in theory I can imagine a scenario in which he did get captured, but was released thanks to his German roots. In May 1940 Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union were still "buddies" and the agreements with the Soviet Union concerning the "Heim ins Reich" action were still in place I imagine. 🤔 That's just a wild guess though - I'm not a historian or an expert on such stuff.

Do you know what was the name of that unit in Polish at that time?

before he was relocated to Ulm

What do you mean by "was relocated"?

Btw, did your grandfather have German roots?

Of course they aren't. The thing they have in common is producing totalitarian regimes, but they're on the opposite ends of the political spectrum.

bigos

Blasphemy! lol We don't use czosnek in bigos o_O What part of Poland are you from, if you don't mind saying? 🤔

Good luck but don't worry.

As we say in Poland: "Nie martw się na zapas." It's easy to say though.

mochi

The one in the photo is with white peach filling, btw.

Tamarind

Yes, it's tamarind!!! :D 🥳🎉

Those snacks are called tamarind rolls. Although the ones I got contain only 4% of tamarind, so I feel a bit cheated :P The rest of ingredients are peanuts, pineapple, rice paper, ginger and chili.

Thank you everyone for participating and great contributions :)

And PiS is supported by uneducated country bumpkins, which is a fact also :D

I said that it is what they deserve.

Then you're not right in the head.

That low-life loser is simply not capable enough to implement it.

Then one could say exactly the same thing about PiS and Konfederacja lol 🤦

I said, no. How many times do I need to say no for you to get it?

Strange, because based on some of your comments I had an impression that you're pro-authoritarian rule. Aren't you? 🤔

However, in Poland, a higher percentage of women hold formal higher education diplomas

LOL
What's next, are you going to "blame" the voting partterns on cities being mainly inhabited by women? :D Haha 😂🤦

Yes.

Kindly elaborate on that then, because according to all common sense and knowledge fascism is the opposite of left-wing ideology:

"Scholars place fascism on the far right of the political spectrum.[6][5][7] Such scholarship focuses on its social conservatism and its authoritarian means of opposing egalitarianism." (Source: Wikipedia)

people have been killing their enemies since the dawn of time; it is not exclusive to any particular ideology.

In the twentieth century the systemic murder of political opponents was exclusive to communist and fascist regimes.

Also, I never said I would kill them;

I didn't mean that you would do it personally (although who knows), but that you would support this being done to them.

It does look like a type of yokan.

Nope, it isn't any type of yokan.

Ah, so this is what it's called! :D Some years ago my mother's Japanese coworker brought yokan from Japan as a gift for us and I knew what it was made of, but I didn't know it's name. It was awful, btw ;D

yubeshi

It's not yubeshi either, but this riddle is broadening my culinary horizons :)

To be honest, I don't even know if this particular snack is being eaten in Japan. I just know that it's Asian.

As for nuts - yes, the ones I have contain peanuts.

Shrimp

As I wrote earlier the prawn crackers in the photo are additionally flavoured - that flavour is what I'm asking about.

Maybe I should narrow it down more - the name of this flavour is a Japanese cooking technique :)

Fascism is a right-wing ideology of the left

What... lol 😂🤦

you have communism, socialism, and fascism.

Both communist and fascist regimes were murdering their political opponents. That's exactly what you want to do. So which are you - a communist or a fascist? Judging by your views you're definitely much closer to a fascist.

that description is describing Tusk

Of course it isn't.

doesn't reflect me and my values..

Aren't those your "values" though?:

'far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement. It is characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition"'

What's far more relevant

Not really lol The voters in prisons are just a few thousand people, while millions of Poles voted in those elections.

PO: truly the party of the mafia and criminal underworld.

Don't be a moron. As I wrote - inmates are just a small fraction of voters.

Trzaskowski won in cities and among people with higher education. Nawrocki won among people with lower education and in the countryside. From what I remember he got over 70% of votes among people with the lowest education (wykształcenie podstawowe). So, you could say that PiS is a party of uneducated and easily manipulated country bumpkins.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [818]

I'll answer collectively - it's not turmeric, gochujang, curry or chili flavour.

Some type of spicy flavour?

Hmm, I wouldn't say so. 🤔

Wasabi

Nope, but this "flavour" comes from exactly the same country as wasabi does!

Are they flavoured with ginger or shoyu?

Soy sauce is one of the ingredients of this flavour (ginger could be an ingredient too, but optional apparently).

Prawn crackers are something that when they're warm, I could eat a thousand in one go..

I don't think they need to be warm to be addictive ;) I do like them, but those flavoured ones are even better :d 🍤

As for that pie - I didn't know, but I wouldn't mind trying it.

The small cake is mochi

Yes!!! :D

I find the texture of mochi interesting - it's very soft and velvety, but rubbery at the same time. I haven't eaten anything like that before :)

So, Alien and cms_neuf have guessed most of the riddle. Congrats! :))) 👏

To sum up - what's left to guess is the flavour of the prawn crackers (a Japanese flavour) and the sweet snack that cms_neuf is writing about here:

Other one looks like an Arab or Liban sweet

You're on track here :) In English this snack is named after one of its ingredients (one of two words) - a plant that originated in Africa, but also spread to Asia and the name of this plant comes from Arabic language. If I understand correctly this particular snack is Asian though. 🤔

You probably had more of a laugh to think that I thought you'd made yourself an Iron Man costume lol.

Nah, I actually thought it's sweet that you believed I'm that skilled in craftsmanship ;D :D

Well, I thought it was made from metal in the riddle clips so you achieved the look you were after :)

That's comforting ;)

Maybe buy some of those special paints and give it another go :)

I don't know, maybe one day... For now I'd rather focus on 2D art :)

Although I did buy some time ago air dry clay and now I ordered tools for sculpting in clay - at some point I'm planning to learn to make stuff from this type of clay. 🤔 So I'll be painting 3D objects after all lol

That's really cool! I didn't know you could even get lamps like that.

Me neither! I mean, I did see some resin art and how it's done more or less, but this is next level :O

I think the English equivalent would be 'tat'.

Thanks!

there's something about metallic that can lift an item to be something special.

Those "metallic" scratches did make it look less like a cheap, plastic toy, so I consider it a success already ;D

From the photo riddles thread:

The term is new to me.

Diorama depicts a scene in 3D, for example battles from some war, a character from a movie with some surroundings (usually fantasy, sci-fi and comic books films) or from computer games. A diorama lamp is simply a diorama with a lamp/light built in (often in some clever way):

There are also resin diorama lamps - this one is

Off-Topic / What's your hobby? [191]

I did something like this for the first time in my life, so don't laugh ;D

As I wrote in the photo riddle thread I bought that Iron Man lamp as a gift, but it came damaged. The damage wasn't big, but it was on the chest, so it was "right in your face" visible. There were also silver elements missing from the movie suit and some light details. Also the black wash was very sloppy and in general the painting wasn't great - some parts weren't even painted gold where they should be. In all honesty, I was disappointed with the quality of the Iron Man figure. It looked a bit like "zabawka z odpustu" (Poles will know what I mean). I payed over 200 PLN for this lamp and I expected something better for such money... So I decided to turn the Iron Man figure into a battle damage version in order to cover up the damage and the sloppy painting. I also added the silver elements and the lights from the suit that was used in Infinity War movies (since it was supposed to be an Infinity War suit).

I gotta tell you... Painting on "raw" plastic was EXTREMELY frustrating and more difficult than I expected lol ;O The surface was so slick that the paint wouldn't hold... Those silver elements were the worst. I had to cover them with many thin layers of paint. Also, that figure isn't big, so I was using my smallest brush and even that brush wasn't small enough ;D ;/ If that wasn't enough I had to maneuver the whole thing - I couldn't detach the figure from the lamp and soon my neck and back started hurting, because you had to be very precise with every brush stroke.

At first I planned to make Iron Man more dirty and burnt, to make the suit look more "batlle-worn", but the paint adhesion was so bad that I resigned from this idea. Luckily it turned out that under that red and gold paint there was a layer of silver paint. It doesn't show in the photos, but thanks to this those scratches I made with precision knife are silvery and it gives the whole figure a more of a "real metal" look. So that was my way of making the suit look more "battle-worn".

In the end this whole ordeal was worth it, because the person I bought it for was happy with this "custom painted" gift, but... never again... ;D If I ever decide to paint some action figure or miniature, then I'll prepare myself properly for this. People who paint miniatures usually use a primer first which makes the paint stick to the plastic. They also use special paints. I used ordinary acrylic paints. Those special paints apparently have smaller pigment particles - thanks to that they don't make all the small details on those figures "disappear" under layers of paint. I learned a thing or two about miniature painting from this experience lol ;) And I defenitely got new appreciation for miniature painters :)))))

It didn't cross my mind to take photos before I started painting, so I used photos from that internet shop link that Feniks posted in the riddle thread for "before/after" comparison:
