News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

One video pointed out that unlike Ukraine there were no (or extremely few) EU flags in the Belarus protests

Yeah....the EU was no big player in Ukraine, and she won't be a big help in Belarus either. The people there seem to know that...

Morning news says flight is postponed. Supposedly on demand of German syndicate. How hilarious.

Well...he is already landed in Tegel and on his way to the Charitè...

I think that ALL need peaceful fall of Lukashenko.

Agreed! Especially the people in Belarus....and they should decide who comes after him, nobody else, not Putin and not the EU!

Russia won't threaten Poland. I don't see it as reality.

Poland IS in EU and NATO, Crowie....

When you talk about a conflict between Russia and EU/NATO (and their consequential collapse of course) you talk about a conflict with Poland (and its consequential collapse of course). There is no other way.

If the US stays out of it they will let Poland hang out to dry....special relationship with Trump or not!

Like Lenin?

As far as I see it Nawalny is on its way OUT of Russia, not on his way IN to Russia! :)

Germany also needs reforms.

Surely!

Both, Russia and Germany (and Belarus come to think of), need to limit the time someone is allowed to rule the country...

He knows that USA won`t go to nuclear war when things escalate. USA won`t bleed for Germanic greed.

So...Russia could threaten Poland with nukes and you think it is better when the US do nothing when things escalate?

Btw....Nawalny is on his way to Berlin, so I've just read...

The EU (Poland too) is not recognizing the outcome of the latest Belarus election...meaning Lukashenko.

Could be pushing him and Belarus straight into Russia's bosom.

Spiegel reports Lukashenko secured himself Putin's support already....he promised "extensive help"!

Would Russia really send troops if pushes come to shove?

News / Is NORD STREAM dangerous for Poland's natural enviroment? [516]

...it's a sign, not much more. The rest will depend on the outcome.

Before a request of inspection was declined by the responsible Bergamt Stralsund. Now the Umwelthilfe want's to force it through a court decision.

Here some background info about the DUH in English:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_Action_Germany

What is their weight? Can they exert any real pressure or they are just one of many objectors?

They are quite mean! Their dissuasions are mostly legally sound and can be very expensive...they are very unpopular and even feared by politicians and business leaders...they love to force people and whole companies to court and to punish them with hefty fines when they see the environment endangered.

Think about a club of green tinged money thirsty and merciless lawyers! :)

....even as Nordstream is nearly done already it seems even the in Germany very powerful climate "lobby" is against Nordstream now...only Merkel is still missing. Wouldn't be the first time she changes her opinion about 180°, why not here?

Interesting...

The association "Deutsche Umwelthilfe" is going to court (in Stralsund) to revoke the operational licence for Nord Stream 2.

They say new scientific findings show that the pipeline leaks unhealthy "climate gas" Methane (much worse than CO2)...and that with these findings the construction would had never been allowed in the first place.

News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1158]

At some time even Islam has to develop....move forwards....I think the westernized muslims will play an important role in that....sooner or later....

A muslima in Berlin founded the first mosque where men and women (unveiled) can pray together side by side...and female preacher are allowed too...gays and lesbians too...of course it doesn't sit well with the most hardcore muslims from the Dark Ages, but's it's in Germany, under western laws and so they have to suck it up! :)

What I would like to know....Christianity became so big through conversions....from a tiny desert cult to a sprawling world religion....why don't they see all these masses of coming immigrants as potential future Christians to fill the empty churches again?

There could be a new wave of power and influence to be had.....not feeling threatened by everybody foreign....dying out slowly but surely as of now (especially in Germany).

Serious thinking here!

When the whole NS2 project started, Germany has dismissed all the opossition

It was Schröder's baby, not Merkel. That he ended up after his chancellorship at russian Gazprom, calling Putin a "lupenreiner Demokrat" (flawless democrat), says it all, really...

One thing wasn't predicted thought: the fact that the United States will get involved.

It's not the US....Obama never put any pressure on Merkel about it....it's Trump! And he will probably gone soon...

And Merkel also wants to set the whole of the European Union against the US

Frankly, Trump makes it easy....as he treats the EU as an enemy....he has less and less friends here!

"European energy policy is decided in Europe, not the US,"

Imagine it wouldn't be so! :)

And also, it was a Germany who has antagonized the whole Central Europe by inviting millions of "refugees" without asking everyone else.

Have to agree with that....

Avoid excessive quoting please

I've mentioned earlier that a modern German cultural impact on Poland is almost non-existent.

.....and that seems mightily important to you! :)

(Not that I think Germany has much cultural impact on modern Germany either...it's to americanized for that. A fate Poland will surely befall too in time!)

So...say.....what do you think of Merkel standing by these sanctions against Russia even without Trump's backing?

I am not sure if Germany ever had ambitions of including Russia in to NATO or EU,

Not really, no!

The only other option (not viable though) had been Germany becoming neutral, out of EU and especially out of NATO...but our friends and neighbours (also the US) protested heavily, so I heard.

She wouldn't do it without the US backing.

The german decision about the continuation of said sanctions was in October 2019....I doubt Merkel had (or needed) Trumps backing for that!

Trump really prefers to do business with Russia....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_projects_of_Donald_Trump_in_Russia

It has also made Poland and the US act as one against it.

I wish she would let it go too....To much hassle for what gain? Nord Stream is a like investing in coal and building new coal mines....as we need to invest in clean energy instead.

And the political right with the AfD who are selling out to Russia.

That too....

Can I ask - where do the FDP stand on the issue of Russia?

Last October the Bundestag decided about the continuation of the sanctions against Russia:

Against: LINKE

Pro: CDU, CSU, Bündins 90/Grüne and the FDP

Abstinence: AfD

*nods*

Not to mention that many Germans protest these sanctions too....entrepreneurs who are losing out on lotsa good business with Russia but also the political left who always had a soft spot for the dictators in the Kreml...

And still, Germany is constantly making political deals with Russia over Poland's head and against the best interest of Poland

Na ja, Germany is also the biggest voice to keep up the sanctions against Russia...if it would be only Poland asking for them there wouldn't be any repercussions for Putin's misbehaviour at all, I fear....even Polands bestie Hungary likes to suck up to Moscow!

...Overall, three types of sanctions were imposed: ban on provision of technology for oil and gas exploration, ban on provision of credits to Russian oil companies and state banks, travel restrictions on the influential Russian citizens close to President Putin and involved in the annexation of Crimea....

By now it's mainly only Merkel (and Schröder) still clinging to Nord Stream....

But you are overestimating these sanctions...it's mainly a blow to the building companies who invested their money into this project...not so much Germany or it's economy.

If there will be counter-sanctions it probably will be through the EU!

....Although the pipeline in question leads from Russia to Germany, four other nations - all of them EU members - are co-financing the project, as the gas is also to be supplied to the Czech Republic and many other European countries - hence the demand for the European Commission to get involved in the spat....

PS: Germany's biggest export market is still China...hence the embarassing silence on Hongkong etc....

United States 6473340.00EUR Billion
