Love / 20% of adult Poles are single and live with Mummy! [241]

Pretty much

On a side note, how can 20% of adult Poles live at home when they're all working overseas? I wonder if they statistically live at home, but actually work abroad.

The problem is finding a house to live in. Suppose even you get a job somewhere ... then you can go to your local housing association to apply for social housing ... the waiting list is about 5 years.

Flat share?

So the low end job market is completely gone in the Netherlands? Do you see a lot more people that are chronically unemployed? Surely some people aren't having a problem, is there a way out of it?

Do you live here? Do you know which route I'll have to take from North Holland? Do you know about traffic jams before, in and around Amsterdam? Do you think someone from Aalsmeer will like an employee who will be late atleast two times a week?

It was a simple suggestion. On a side note, are you open to moving to where the jobs are?

How about university, is it possible to get a loan like in the US or Germany? How about studying in Poland?

Do I look like I'm going to answer that question? No? Maybe you should try a different tune then!

I don't think you're willing to work a minimum wage job.

I posted quite a few interesting little tidbits there, why wouldn't you follow one of those routes?

Don't knock McD's. Over here their store managers make like 50K a year.

I'm not knocking anything. A job is a job. That one pays money, in the US they also help pay for university.

I mean, if you want to be independent, wouldn't that be a good start?

Again, you shouldn't point your finger at people who actually want to work, or even breathe in my direction when I become jobless because employers decide to hire illegals or foreigners because they're cheaper.

Do you actually want to work?

Would you work minimum wage in Aalsameer pushing around flower carts?

How about McDonalds?

Would you be willing to go to the UK and work in a cannery for a year to save up money to go to University? How much does it cost? A buddy of mine (who just woke up as well) said that studies at Twente last year ran about €2k a year without any kind of "studiefinanciering".

If you really wanted to study, could you? Do you have other financial obligations preventing you from taking a minimum wage job and studying? Could you take a loan?

Love / Making My Polish Girlfriend Feel Like She Is At Home At Christmas [83]

Crank up the AC and burn a bit of brown coal to get the sensory part right :)

Get a live carp and dump it into your bath tub a week before Christmas, that'll be Christmas dinner.

Go down to your neighborhood polski sklep and buy a package of oplatki (google it for instructions on usage).

Make some kompot.

...pick a tradition, sure she'll enjoy it.
pwaa.org/Polish_Christmas_Traditions.htm
Regarding gifts, there are no special "Polish girl" gifts.

ps, i'm breaking my promise to myself to not post in this section...

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

You are able to say idiotic things like this about the original cockpit voice recorder which the Polish side has not received yet and it looks like MAK is not going to release it soon. We received a digital copy so far. A digital copy.

When is evidence in an investigation turned over to the owners? Who from the Polish investigation team has requested the physical CVR and FDR?

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

The crash may not have been planned by the Russian government at the highest level. It could have been simply an air controller error that the Russian government does not want to admit to.

Could have been, we'll see in the report. I'm on the side of pilot error (being a pilot, it pains me, but I could see it).

So what is the function of the aircontroller when a plane is preparing to land?

It depends, and that was the main argument. BUT, in any case the captain has full control. I landed last week in pretty much the same conditions (except here in Wroclaw). 100m ceilings(ish). No input at all from the controller.

When the plane reached 100m, what was the pilot supposed to do?

He should have never reached 100m in a tu154 according to the POH.

Isn't it all clear that Kaczynski pushed the pilot away and was landing by himself, so It's all his fault ?

Not at all, Kaczynski had nothing to do with..well, directly. He did bitch out the pilot in Georgia for deciding to take the safe route (incredibly brave pilot that was to stand up to the leader of the nation).

An investigation run by NATO HQ with aviation experts from all the major member states ? I don't believe Russians wouldn't agree If Polish government demanded that immediately after the crash as It would look suspicious.

The Polish side has the right to involve whoever they wanted.

You're also interested in defending the Russian government at all costs.

The Russian government is corrupt as hell. I doubt they had anything to do with this. Enriching themselves off of local issues, absolutely...Just look at Luk....

The accident could have easily been the result of air controller error of giving the wrong landing coordinates to the pilot. Even landing coordinates just slightly off would result in a crash.

ATC didn't provide primary information. If the pilot was relying on the controller during that approach, he was already at fault. We'll see what the report says.

Can you imgaine any other government of EU/NATO member state leaving the whole investigation to the Russians If their plane with dozens of VIPs crashed in Russia ? Only cudak Tusk can do that.

What would you suggest? Maybe you could give an example of an EU/NATO plane crashing and them taking over the investigation? Montreal treaty... Same happened with the Korean Air 747....

Poland is still surrounded by enemies, all ways was and all ways will be. The Russian scum bags in the east and the German Nazi bustards in the west plus not to mention the British and American traitors who sold Poland to that murderess dictator Stalin.

Don't forgot the Swedes and the Turks!

Law / Last Will and Testament - should items go to a Polish or EU person? [24]

Also in Germany as well as most European countries. Again, that wasn't what was asked.

For me, it's someone asking if it's possible for a Canadian to inherit assets from a Polish estate, or if the person named has to be a Polish or EU citizen. My assumption is that the survivors agree. I have no reason based on the post to assume otherwise. Maybe I misread the question.

Law / Last Will and Testament - should items go to a Polish or EU person? [24]

Are you a lawyer now? Being American, are you sure you can advise on Polish law?

I don't have to be a lawyer to know that you can bequeath belongings to anything that you want in a Polish will. And if you want to get really nosy, it was an N reg'd aircraft bequeathed to a Delaware LLC.

What about the children? The spouce? Can you ignore them in your will?

I don't know, that's not what was asked. I'd again suggest contacting a lawyer.

Thanks for the useful info though.

Law / Last Will and Testament - should items go to a Polish or EU person? [24]

If a Polish citizen bequeaths real estate, money, valuables to a person of Canadian origin. Does the Canadian person then actually own them? Are there any laws in Poland stating that items in a Last Will and Testament must go to a Polish or EU person?

The benefactor of a will can be any legal entity in the world. If the person in question is still alive, go see a lawyer to find out the best way to transfer assets. If the person has passed away, condolences, and go see a lawyer as well to find out what your best options are.

you about doing business in these countries, me about doing business with these countries.

You're talking about doing business with me...that makes it even more interesting :)

Contract law is easy to enforce over here in the wild East. Like I said, the perception seems to be that Poland (and the east in general) is still like it was in the 90s. You can see that in the "corruption perception index" :)

credit and/or attempts to bypass regulation

What problems with credit? If anything, credit is easier to access here than in Western countries. What do you mean by attempts to bypass regulations? The perception seems to be based on business practices of the 90s instead of the situation on the ground today.

You forgot to add Central and Southwest Asia and the Middle East to your list...

Nestling alongside countries like Costa Rica, Cape Verde, Lithuania - no, I would not call that reputable.

What do you consider disreputable about the business climate in these countries (and Poland for that matter)?

Yes, because god knows it's just payoffs and protection rackets in those countries. Or wait, I meant old people and retirement clubs..

Anyway, I run my main business in one of those uber-corrupt neighboring countries. Have done for almost 7 years now. I don't notice much of a difference between running a company there and in Germany other than the cost of doing business in Germany is a bit higher. Auditing is the same, accounting is the same, permits are pretty much the same. I'm not sure that anyone competent would shy away from doing business in any EU member country now a days...
