Law / Rejecting an Inheritance in Poland [6]

For your kids and grandkids maybe just ignore it - the rules changed a few years ago and they can only be liable up to the value of any assets left by your brother.

For yourself, you can maybe give a pelnomocnictwo to one of your relatives to reject it on your behalf. But in any case the default state is as above - you can only be liable up to the value of any assets left over

The courts are several years behind in most civil issues - the simplest commercial registrations are often taking 6 months+ since lockdown.

Here is a useful page, up to date even if poorly written - if the amounts involved are large then contact a lawyer

The idea JR is that you tell us your picks before, not post factum.

Bobko understands even though I can't see his choices prospering until oil prices recover

You can certainly enter the EU - don't worry about that.

Are your kids and grandchildren Polish citizens ? Have they ever visited Poland ? Are the grandchildren adults or still under 18 ?

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [381]

In Poland ? Most " second homes" are small wooden shacks on a dzialka or maybe for the upper classes a small flat on the coast.

Taxing them for standing empty won't help homelessness and irrespective of the morals it's a bad tax from a politicians viewpoint because it would be unpopular but raise hardly any money

Give it a rest JR. we are paying for the US presence and while the cutting edge weapons are nice, they are also expensive. I can't help thinking a few finance ministers are looking at what Ukraine has just achieved with 500 dollar drones

Travel / Looking Any Clean Hostel in Warsaw nearest to Muslim community [15]

The stretch of Marszalkowska and the side alleys from Novotel to the Italian Institute is getting pretty Arab - 3 shisha bars and maybe 5 kebab places. But plenty of pubs too - maybe it's cosmopolitan rather than "muslim"

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [381]

What's wrong with tax enforcement on multinationals at the moment in Poland ? It is higher than in most countries and both PiS and PO have made it stronger (in fact it's over the top at the moment - way too much form filling and little commercial understanding)

So that leaves the idea of a tax on tech companies. Good luck with that - it's a good concept morally but Poland is an expendable country for them and in any case Golden Cow will back them to the hilt

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [381]

In the 8 years in charge PiS were in economic terms, the most leftwing govt in the EU.

High spending, new taxes aimed at small businesses and the successful, statist control of large industry, persistant interference in the forex market.

I have a farm too Amiga. For 25 years now. And I don't spend all my farming days moaning about how the govt, the EU and Biedronka owe me a living

When it comes down to it we are all sick of PiS voters bellyaching

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [381]

I imagine Tusk's tactic will be to introduce some popular legislation and then challenge Nawrocki to veto it. That means more giveaways - just at a time when the debt is already high.

But in any case that is what a lot of Nawrocki voters want - handouts from the hardworking city taxpayers

Very nice over 6 months - 47 percent up, plus a strong GBP.

I am having a small punt on Asseco - Polish IT company very invloved in govt infrastructure. It is already 100 percent up last 6 months so I might be too late but just a few k zloty.

Take your dumb dementia question off this thread - you have asked it and been answered many times.

This is about what tariffs do to the market, not about some whingeing ass bums who want "manufacturing jobs" back and can't compete.

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [381]

I feel I know what is coming next Bobko - that democracy is a fetish and a dictatorship will deliver better more efficient results and more national unity.

Save your keystrokes - however bad Nawrocki could be, he is still better than any unelected NN Nazi thief, and we have a good chance to get rid of him in 5 years.

I didn't mean they had been voting that way - more than that fissure in the country has existed since 1815

You can see it in the maps of railways, roads, sanitation systems, levels of English achievement in schools, taxes paid, gdp per head and basically any other measure of well being, apart from number of trees.

I think there is a thread on that somewhere here. You can search for it. There are some interesting maps there.

The reasons are obvious and should be dear to your heart - the continued influence of North Nigerian colonial rule, 107 years after it finished. It's no wonder the Ukrainians want to break those chains for good

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

We have to get on with it but if we face five years of "he said, she said "in the court system, that will finish PiS off and possibly PO too.

The map look likes that for 20 years and obviously since 1815. But I think the system can only withstand maybe another 10 years of that - disparity between tax receipts and voting patterns is so big now that it will start to threaten OMOV. Every 2 years I wake up wondering why we should continue to put up with huge fiscal transfers to villagers who will clearly vote for any donkey wearing a PiS rosette.

Despite everything I think there have been some solid economic achievements last 2 years - taking the state companies back towards sanity, good growth in investment, strong zloty, low unemployment. Inflation remains a problem though and I haven't believed the official figures since about 2019

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

Maybe a few of them do - vape shop owners and self employed Uber drivers. But polling data shows that business owners and high earners voted heavily for Trzaskowski

One of the most shocking data points is that employees voted heavily for Nawrocki - 63 percent. I guess that includes many workers in factories and small business that have developed and prospered under EU membership

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

But PiS did try to hold on to power in 2023 - dithered for months before allowing the government to form.

Attitude among the educated, the taxpayers, the hard working and the optimistic in Poland today is resignation but that's it's only 5 years, lets get on with it.

PiS, like most right parties have replaced their dying voters with a new constituency - bitter young men. There are plenty here on this board. Now there is a few years of reflection while we work out how to sell democracy to the basement dwellers - not easy as AI and outsourcing start to reduce job opportunities at entry level
