Life / Don't Forget: Tomorrow, March 8 is Women's Day in Poland! [115]

civilized societies are run by hard concepts and ideas. Only savages live by the whims of their instincts and emotions.

Yes and no. Without emotions, we are nothing. A subtil mix of 'ideas' and 'emotions' is probably more interesting, humanwise.

Source ?

I was talking about France. In France, it's very common, unfortunately.

Well Polson I have no beef with you so do not mean to offend you. However I must say that you seems to be a someone who would rather react than think for himself.

I would love to know more about that.
But to be honest, I happen to react after some thinking.

just wonder whether Polson is there in order to get laid or he is she in the real life.

Hmm. And you dare say others they are offensive?
I don't read any women magazines (really not!), I'm not a feminist (not at all), and I'm not a she or any other stupid thing you could say.

I was talking about French facts, from a bunch of French sources. Now please stop telling others what they should do, and show them some respect.

You once again miss the big picture. That's why I frequently refer to fishbowl thinking. If you ever adopt the concept of overviewing than the rest will come more naturally to you. You see the tree but not the forest.

Then help me. Tell me something that women have, and men don't. Something serious.

True, there are some women who put their money where their mouth is but they are the minority especially in expensive restaurants. I consider it a good date when I weed out women who talk "equality" but don't back it up with deeds.

That's probably because of all the 'being a gentleman' thing we're raised with. Not saying it's always justified, but don't blame women for that, it's a man thing.

I probably won't, "accidentally" or otherwise. lol

That's what I thought too ;)

No it isn't. It might cost about $9 a month

So that's $108 a year. Women have to pay to avoid pregnancy, when men can just run away and pretend they were not here.
I guess very few men have to give birth and raise a kid alone because the girl didn't give a heck and decided to disappear.

Not saying women are the good ones and men the bad ones, but these things are quite common in our western societies.

Of course you need to swim in a larger fishbowl to comprehend that.

Sorry, forgot my swimsuit ;)

It did make me laugh though

I did that right at least ;)

I've met enough honest women who admit that.

Nice girls.

They are the ones who have the pleasure of my company :)

Nice AND brave ;)

It's a man's world and women have to adapt to 'survive'. They have to be 'men' to succeed as men would.
Pregnancy is a big problem when it comes to their career. They have to decide what they want: a good career or a family.
Men don't have such problems. They can have both good careers AND kids.

As to housework, women still spend much more time on it than men. I'm French so I'll talk about what I know (and you'll be happy to hear that).

In France, in 2010, women spend on average 3h52 daily on housework, when men spend 2h24. And it can get worse when there's a child.

About 80% of the housework is done by women.

Women are paid between 10% and 30% less than men, for the very same position and qualifications. And it's usually harder for them to find a job.

They are still much more discriminated than men, at work and anywhere else.

Now if 'she' doesn't want to pay the bill in an expensive restaurant, then take her to McDonald's ;)

I really got to go.......but....you seem to need additional corrections (it's noticeable that you are unable to retort in a specific manner to my many examples and explanations). Men and women are the same species and not a separate race. Your premise is juvenile.

Oh really? Sorry, I think I was just being ironic.

This scenario epitomizes what is so hypocritical of the modern spoiled western women.

That's it? That's the kind of 'disgraceful' advantages western women have? That's what you're fighting so hard? Good for you. I would agree with you on this one, and I actually met quite a few women who would pay their part, in restaurants or elsewhere. No big deal.

Feminists got lots of news coverage talking about the "war on women" because rational people opposed giving women free birth control thru the new health care programs.

Well, easy for men like you to disagree with such a program. You will probably never accidentally get pregnant. That's a problem you will never have to face. And that's a big one.

I'm actually still wondering what happened in your life for you to be such a fierce anti-women (not exactly the word, but hey).
Did your ex-wife left with your kids and money?
Did you try to take advantage of one of your female colleagues and lost the trial?

Anyway, you can call me kid or stupid or any other nice words you'll find, you won't convince me that men are the poor ones, and women the lucky ones. Sorry.

It made sense that men created, developed and built through evolution what we have today.

Because men are the superior race?...

Women aren't seeking these 'careers'

Men neither. They do when they don't have much choice and wifey is home taking care of kids.

but my comment was about Western women really.

I hope so. The general condition of women here (Western world) is better, still not as good as men's.

ZIMMY seems to REALLY like men, doesn't he? If you defend women, you're a "male basher". If you have different sources than he does, "you're brainwashed". If you believe in something other than his beliefs, you're "eating out of Eve's Apple". Is it pro-male to be anti-female?

+1

ZIMMY, question, if you don't mind: what would be a perfect world for you? 'Genderwise'.

What percentage of women are coal miners? Should we demand a quota of 50%? That's true for many other harsh jobs. Yes, men run companies but they also work in the worst jobs as well.

Should we talk about human anatomy here? Men are generally stronger than women. These are physical jobs.
Plus, you seem to forget that these jobs have a long 'male' tradition. Women wouldn't be accetped as easily. Since women were not allowed to work a while ago. Some things remain, you want it or not.

Depends when you are/live I guess ;)

As to ads, I'm not sure what TV you watch, guys, but that's not the general feeling I have with 'my' TV.
I see both female and male dummies. Ads are supposed to make you buy stuff, not to insult you.

Chicago, a dreamland for embittered feminist women who are offended by anything and everything when they so choose:)

I can understand that some feminist groups push it a bit too far sometimes, but no need to generalize to all women ;)

Are you sure you're not already a woman?

I'm glad I'm not ;)

Keep your doors locked and don't leave the house.

Of course not, but it still feels safer and comfier to be a man in a lot of situations.

No, because in general, women tend to be more emotional

Alright, then you should know that being emotional doesn't make your life easier, at all ;)
So once again, being a man is generally easier.

Objectivity, linear thinking and logic is how I do it

Objectivity and logic, I do too, as much as I can. Linear thinking, I need to check ;)

anti male ads

You still have to explain me this part. Not sure what TV you watch in Chicago but it's not the feeling I have when I watch my TV.

And if there are ads like that, then maybe it's a way to counterbalance with reality, you know.

Once again, you do know what an anecdote is - don't you?

Yeah, tell that to other mums.

You seem unaware of the advantages that western women have.

I so envy them, I should become a woman, blah blah.

It's not 1955 anymore. There are probably some dinosaurs who still 'feel' that way but as a general statement, it's a canard still used but rarely true.

Please...

don't forget that 3/4 of murdered people (at least in the west) are men. Men are more likely to be victims of murder than women

Yes, men tend to 'fight' more often than women, nothing weird here. But don't tell me that men are raped as often as women.

So do many men and not just the unmarried ones (of which there are more and more). Do you still 'feel' that women cook as much as their mothers, grandmothers did?

Come on! Of course not as much as before, but STILL a LOT! Where do you live, honestly? Must be a dreamland for women.
House stuff is still carried out by women, in vast majority.

If you reread your comment a few times, it might dawn on you how illogical it is. Of course many women prefer feelings to cold hard facts. Logic doesn't matter. There's a comfort in feeling oneself a victim. Many people, women and men, struggle with information which is counter intuitive to their long held beliefs. Overcoming that obstacle shows growth.

We'll discuss that when you have your periods, bad ones, and have to keep working and all the rest at the same time ;)

It's not about being the victim, it's about the comfort of living. Not saying it's a nightmare to be a woman, just that it's still easier to be a man than a woman.

Once again, talking about life in general. Of course it's better than 50 years ago, but the gap between men and women is still here.

Maybe you're a wise man, but there are so many dummies who treat women like sh.t. That can be in the street, public transports, at work.

Be honest, would you rather be a woman than a man? Think wise, wise boy.

A few reasons why being a man is still 'comfier' than being a woman in 2013 (and that's for 'western' countries):

1. A man that sleeps with many women is a 'player'. A woman that sleeps with many men is a wh0re, b!tch, and so on.

2. In many places, you can't go out alone if you're a woman after a certain hour (at night) because it's not safe. For men, it's usually better.

3. As Paulina said, many women have to take care of their career + kids + house cleaning + cooking, etc.
4. Women are more often (and easily) subject of sexual harassment, everywhere, something still very difficult to fight because 'invisible'.
5. Last (well, erm, in my very short list) but not least, women get pregnant (some) and have periods (most of them), and that's really a pain.

Zimmy, you can show us as many stats and studies as you want, the fact is everyday life is still easier for men.

What amazes me is that you don't have the common sense to realize that women frequently take what is commonly referred to as 'soft' jobs

Tell that to my mum.

while men take on difficult even dangerous ones that few women want.

I'm talking about 'bureau' jobs, where the most dangerous thing is to get hurt with your pen or scissors.

That's called an anecdote

An anecdote, I guess, there are thousands of them tho.

you degree of argumentation leaves much to be desired.

Blah blah. Better?

some women make more than men because companies want the 'diversity'

Come on, that's still quite rare. Exceptions as you'd say.

Read the bottom line of thiese extremely extensive studies which are separate and not related to each other. It'll take you some time but you'll find a pattern. If you are too stubborn to open your mind to real facts and figures than that's that. Stay in your small fishbowl.

Extensive indeed. I can find you another study that will back my view. But I'm probably too young/stupid/narrow-minded, etc. anyway.

Gotta go.

Me too.
You won't change my mind on women's condition IN THE WORLD (btw), not just in Europe and America.
Talking about opening my mind, look a bit farther than your secret studies and TV ads.

Women assault men in approximately equal numbers but the main street media (and hundreds of feminist organizations) only focus in one direction. That's part of the 'politically correct' culture we live in.

That was a short essay/article. Figures about the number of death due to domestic violence?

Sad, that you don't know that.

Clothes is superficial.

You've not named any.

Then please read again.

1/Men, on average work longer hours than women (more overtime)

BS. You have general stuff (from I don't know where), I have a real, concrete example: my mum. She works A LOT in a private company. She doesn't leave earlier for family reasons, she always get home at 21 or later. Still, she makes less money than her male colleagues who do the exact same job.

Btw, 'women take off for family reasons', interesting. So men earn more money AND don't need to take care of their kids as much as women. Again, men's life looks easier to me ;)

In the past I've had to hire women because the Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) wanted more females hired in certain positions, usually management. I've done this even when the woman was not the best qualified.

Stop it, you very well know most of the time the contrary occurs.

I'll believe that when women are shown to be the idiots especially in ads.

We'll talk about ads when men start touching your a$$ in the bus on your way home. Yes, that's also part of women's life. Getting abused any possible way.

Open your eyes, dude. It's still much comfier to be a man in this world than a woman. And this is Europe/America...

Life / Don't Forget: Tomorrow, March 8 is Women's Day in Poland! [115]

You're giving me very 'superficial' stuff here, Zimmy.
There are many real discriminations towards women, much more important than clothes and vocabulary.

When it comes to law, women have great advantage during divorce

But women tend to be violented more often.

In sentencing, men have longer prison time for the same type of crime

At work, men make more money for the very SAME position.
And 'recruitors' sometimes discriminate applicants based on their genre.

Let's talk honestly about real life, and not ads and television.

women seem to have this 'need' to feel special

Well, if you look at it another way, discrimination against women is still quite present, everywhere, even in our so-called developed countries.
Some women complain, but they are often right, that's the thing.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

the Cyrillic alphabet can be learned in a few hours

I think you're right. Never learnt but was curious and checked a couple of times. It's not like Chinese and its thousand different symbols. I don't think this is the hardest part of Russian.

I'm sure Polish would be easier for a Russian to learn rather than an English person.

I'm pretty sure about that too. As Italian would be easier for a French person than -let's say- Finnish.
I have Polish lessons in a two-people group every week and the other person is Russian, and she's already almost fluent, even tho she spoke no Polish at all when she arrived here.

Hehe, I'd still go with Polish for being the hardest ;P
Of course, being French, English was much easier to learn. Polish is....arrrgh, know what I mean?
For instance, to take. Prendre in French. In Polish, it's either 'brać', or...'wziąć', WTF! ^^
Anyway, getting late, I'd better go, see you later, Lyzko ;)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

I wonder yet how the average Pole finds English as a language to master competently compared with the average Anglo-Saxon who sets about the task of mastering Polish with equal competence.

Well, the average Pole will have to face a completely different (but rather easy I'd say) vocabulary (a sort of Germanic French ;)), and the 'anarchistic' pronunciation of English, while the grammar shouldn't be too much of a problem.

An average Anglo-Saxon would have to learn the pronunciation of Polish, and manage to pronounce it, then try to learn some of a quite difficult vocabulary, and the biggest part is yet to come, try to get the basics of Polish grammar, which can get pretty painful ;)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

First of all, it barely touches the tip of that monster iceberg known as English orthography.

If the only difficulty in Polish was its orthography, I think I'd manage ;)

Furthermore, you leave out the vagueries of English pronunciation in all it's multiple varities

Of course, that's probably one of the only difficulties of English. It's random pronunciation.

I still maintain that words such as "difficult" and "easy" are purely relative!

I agree that there are probably no easy language. But still, there are not too difficult languages, and very difficult languages. English belongs to the first one, Polish to the latter.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Since English initially developed out of German why does it use a C instead of a K like all other Germanic languages?

English doesn't come from German. It's a germanic language (big difference here), and very latinized, with a great amount of French loanwords, among others.

The 'c' instead of 'k' comes very probably from the latinization of the language.

how "easy", not to mention practical, English is supposed to be, yet those same posters merrily botch up English grammar

English grammar? There is one? ;)
English is easy, come on.
If you want to say 'I am a nice boy', you just need these 5 words and there you go. Try that with Polish. There's no way you make a correct sentence out of these 5 words. Declinations and stuff are required, otherwise you're wrong.

Language / Why is the Polish language so difficult? [309]

Polish continues to be obscure and only spoken by poles and the random expat.

Let's be honest, if you have to learn English or Polish, the choice will be easy.
And considering how freaking hard the language is, no wonder no-one wants to learn it, except the Poles themselves and expats of course ;)
If you want a language that also 'offers a gateway to most Slavic countries', then you can go with an easier one ;)

Language / Why is the Polish language so difficult? [309]

It is difficult. Partly because the language has hardly evolved since centuries. When French and English for instance lost all cases (except for the very basic nominative of course), Poland still has 7. Including the very useful vocative.. ;)

I heard that the word (number) 'two' has 17 different forms in Polish. I honestly don't want to check, cuz I'd be depressed and hey, it's Sunday night... ^^

Still learning but need a looot of patience, and maybe I'll manage someday ;)

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Calm = AmerTchr (hehe)

I have several yard dogs

Perfect then, why carry guns then?

Was gonna work for them but thought I better finish 3rd grade first

Wise ;)

It is against the law to carry one in a stadium, church, bank, government building, bar or hospital

Yeah, well. It's against the law to download music for free. Everyone does it.

Just the opposite my friend, that's why I carry concealed, I fear nothing

It seems pretty obvious to me that you actually fear a lot. You probably don't realise it (thanks to your 'artillery'). I have no yard dogs, no gun, and I don't fear anything like all those things you've said. You are freaking scared, man, you are. But many Americans feel the same probably, the US is not a safe place, that's true.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

In my opinion, a country should allow their citizens to own firearms and carry them as they wish unless the individual has been restricted through due process.

Ok, this is your opinion, I'm supposed to respect it. But it's still quite hard for me to understand the safe feeling you have about that, random people carrying 'assault weapons' in the street.

I don't want that for Poland, it wouldn't bring anything good. And the place won't be any safer. It's already much safer than the US or Western Europe, why change anything?
Polson

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

It was me. It was off-topic. This post is much better.

Wow, that's strict ;)

The US is a country of 311 million people and when matched against the Western European population and land mass for school shootings it isn't that different.

Oh come on, in the last decade, most of these mass shootings (in schools and elsewhere) were in the US.

your "one every 5-10 years" assertion is completely false.

As was my 'one every 5-10 days', it's called exaggeration. But let's make a list of last year's shootings in the US, and another list for Europe. You 'win', I'm afraid.

Probably the problem is not only the right to owns guns, there's more than that, but still, it makes it easier.

If someone broke into my home to kill me, rape my daughter in front of her sibblings, rob my wife....
I would want my gun to double tab him between the lookers before he had a chance.
How about you or would you just stand there and watch as he brandished his gun/knife at you ?

Dammit, the States must be a scary place to live, man ;)
So the intruder aims a gun at you and you think you'll manage to get your gun and shoot him between the eyes?
You must work for the CIA or something.
I guess if you're afraid something like that could happen, then you should carry your gun everywhere you go, cuz it could as well happen at the local shop or stadium for instance. Good luck for your life in fear. Let's all have guns, it will feel so much safer.
