Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

Poland have ALWAYS been situated in CENTRAL EUROPE.

we're not discussing geography. read the title of the thread.

me thinks that if you compared the way Polish kings ruled their lands 1000 years ago compared to the way the Russians treated the Poles in the second half of the 20th century, the Russians would look like ***** cats.

man oh man, just another Polish history dork bound to be another Polish history dork infested thread.

I said that there is no eastern European mentality .

no? nothing at all? it's just a term people made up? we got western mentality according to you but no eastern? hmmm.

ironside wrote:

Because nowadays western tendencies and ideologies are aiming at turning people into slaves.

if you're referring to the disappearing middle class and the rich getting richer, yeah i can agree with that to some extent but it doesn't compare to communism, much more of an eastern european concept (not excluding of course other countries where communism still exists). also, capitalism and democracy, more of a western concept (in today's times), at least on paper, provides people with far more freedom than socialism.

be careful where you pass the blame because historically, "the west" has been doing it better than anyone else.

Nevertheless there is no eastern European mentality !

Poles have nothing in common with Germans, French, Spanish, Portugeuse. Poles speak a slavic language, shared communism with the rest of eastern europe for decades, got ass hammered in the war and fell into Soviet hands for years and years.....why are we even discussing this. Poles are nothing like the west and routinely detest western tendancies and ideologies on this forum.

How many Mexicans crosses the USA border every day? 10 000 ? 30 000?more?

I don't know. Why?

That is a very good lesson for Poles.

And what lesson would that be?

Couldn't you find a better source?

Honestly, it's the first attempt I've seen at quantifying the "overstay" percentage so I posted it. People constantly request it on here so there you go.

blog.heritage.org/2012/01/19/time-to-admit-poland-into-the-visa-waiver-program/

According to the article, in 2010, 152,000 poles came to the USA on a non-immigrant visa (tourist visa) and it also includes that long sought after number, "Overstay rate" which was 2 percent in 2010, or roughly 3,040.

nope, somebody complained that the only reason that case is in court.

with the law being the catalyst.

expressed by one of your pop-singers would that still be acceptable exercise of freedom of speech ?no consequences of law suits would follow?

As if that hasn't happened countless times already since he took office? No lawsuits. No consequences. Witaj w Ameryce.

definition of freedom of speech vary whats good for the USA doesn't necessary is good for Poland.

good for Ironside is more like it. don't speak for all of poland.

if you can't have free speech, can you have democracy?

No.

You.

Can.

Not.

but the mere fact that you even land in court is because of a law written by a few Polish citizens who decided x, y, and z is insulting. communist. but then again, Poland is full of communist relics, starting with zameldowanie. hopefully Poland grows out of this.

Does Obama really need Congressional approval for this visa thingy for Poland?

That's how the process works, yes.

"Why? Your government won't give me a visa anyway"

Technically that's incorrect. They'll give him a visa if he fits their criteria, just like about 90% of all Polish applicants last year.

Is calling someone homosexual insulting?

Case and point why the law is ridiculous. Whether you think it's insulting or not, a few guys in Warsaw are going to decide this for you. Freedom of speech does not exist in Poland and that sucks.

If there was such a person as Jesus and he was actually the son of God I'd love to know how different the actual events and RULES were/are.

Does it matter? Regardless of what really happened, they'd change it up to suit themselves regardless.

News / Is there anything Poland won't do for money? "Wolf's Lair" - up for rent" [59]

Europeans are so funny sometimes. They think money coming from the government magically appears out of thin air and tend to forget where half their paycheck goes every month.

Ok, snide remarks aside, I'm just going to say that 1.3 million tourists spend a lot of money and Polish business owners benefit from this and then they pay taxes and that goes to.........TADA!, "The Polish State."

So basically, you pay for Auschwitz. Money well spent, they should keep the place open forever to remind the world what those fukcers did but let's not deny how much money it generates.

So the museum over there should be shut down in your opinion ?

no. why are you asking me that.

there's no entry fee so don't see how they profit from that.

1,300,000 visitors a year and you don't see how Poland and its citizens profit from Auschwitz? i don't know what to say.

That hasn't happened so the double standard is somewhat obvious.

ANY time a country's government tells you what you can and can't say, there is already a double standard.

The Founding Fathers had it right. 1st Amendment, Freedom of Speech. That's a democracy.

your lack of faith must come as a great comfort to you in these troubling times

I sir, will then say back to you, "your lack of atheism must come as a great comfort to you in these troubling times." Sounds weird, doesn't it? To have a lack of atheism?

"Un-repent" while you still have time!

Do I sound condescending yet?

Haven't you actually read what the two proposed bills actually say?

I have.

Now I'm asking you, again, to explain to me why the SOPA/PIPA 24-hour protest would bring you to say, "Hardly the land of "free speech", is it?"

I know what the two bills say, I just don't see how it makes the USA "hardly the land of free speech" so I'd appreciate it if you explained it to me.

The fact that your country even considered such a draconian bill kinda says it all.

I still don't follow. You came here to prove a point about freedom of speech in the USA, so prove it. I don't follow the connection. Tell me.

Hardly the land of "free speech", is it?

I'm not following. Honestly, I don't follow. How does a 24 hour protest of SOPA/PIPA bring you to that conclusion?

I mean, we all know how you couldn't hack it in Europe, but you really don't have to pretend that America is somehow superior.

Here we go.....ready for it guys? Ready for it?

There is a major difference between a government telling the public what they can and cannot say and a government that allows for the society to fend for themselves by using the courts and the country's constitution.

When a country tells you what you can and cannot say = communism.

When a country gives you freedom of speech and allows society to decide for themselves what is acceptable or not with the right to file a court case (not saying you'll win but it's your right to file) = democracy and freedom.

If you pay a court ordered fine (for a lack of a better term) in the USA for offending/insluting someone, it's not because our government and our country's constution deems it illegal.

In many other countries (including Poland), if you do the same, you pay because it is illegal, not because Polish people, or a judge for that matter, sees it that way. It's people suffering penalties because your government said that people aren't allowed to say certain things.

These are different countries altogether.

You are right on your money. The fact is that she didn't say anything about Buddhism because her aim was to insult religions people care about in Poland.

aaaah, OK. so laws should be written based on a popularity contest. you're hilarious.

You are an atheist

I prefer not to label myself so no, I am not an atheist.

Yet I would defend your right to remain atheist and your right to state it publicly, I wouldn't bat an eye if somebody who insulted you on the ground of your beliefs would have been fined.

You sure? If that were true, you would be able to state publicly why you are Catholic and I would be able to tell everyone, honestly, why I am "atheist", or something to that effect. See any problems with that?

As long as you are not abusing or insulting somebody's beliefs - you should have a right to express your opinions in a non insulting way.

Let's put that to the test:

I'd like you, or anyone else for that matter who is Catholic, to tell me why you are Catholic. Go.

ooooooooof course not. Geeze, what was I thinking. I could've sworn you had just offered.

"want me to post some examples of religious intolerance?" -hythorn, 8 minutes ago.

however there are plenty of examples of where American nut cases shot doctors for performing abortions

off topic.

there are examples of religious intolerance from across the world so it is not confined just to bashing the Catholic Church

again, off topic. who cares? nobody here is claiming differently, including myself.

it will do you a power of good - contemplating an eternity in damnation... unless....

laws tend to favour the predominant religion of that country

obviously, obviously and obviously. why are you telling me this.

want me to post some examples of religious intolerance? Many of them are directed against the good old US of A so don't be getting upset now

yes. i'd like you to post some examples of someone making a similar comment to Doda's in the USA and having to pay a fine for it. thanks!

If a Buddhist brought a complaint then there would be the same court hearing.

Tell you what.....what if my religion said that it's sacrilegous to eat beef. Like.....it's absolutely forbidden. Then I move to Poland, turn on the TV, and someone says, "boy oh boy, I loooooove to eat beef! Cow meat is the most delicious, I think I'll eat it every day!" and then, on TV, took a big bite out of a beef patty.

Could I then take that person to court....in Poland?
