Food / Taste of food in Poland vs other countries [186]

Being a good cook is not like acquiring new looks. You need to grow in it.

No. It is a skill like any other and can be learnt.

given the amount of propaganda

Propaganda? Jesus i didn't know Hitler had came back to teach people to cook...

but you don't make a good cook by telling him to cook well from now on.

Why not? Cooking well, for the majority is not a birth right.

London has the most of the best restaurants in the world, yet the Brits enjoy cooking mostly on the TV, like sport.

Not really, it is very fashionable to be a good cook in the UK now.

Unlike yourself. You don't have any, period, and it probably annoys you which is why you are picking on all the Polish-Americans!

Unlike you, I have lived in the country and paid my taxes. I have contributed while you sit on your ass pretending to be what ever nationality you like.

And Taylor is such an Americanized name, too!

16th century, you know, before your homeland was a country....

What do you think of Polish festivals outside of Poland and Oktoberfest? Do you want them banned? Is it because they aren't being held in Poland and Germany? What is the big deal?

good luck to them, they might magically be held by people who have some kind of Polish ties...unlike you.

Polish-American :D. And I don't see why you have such a problem with this. What does it matter if a few people in the US who have family members who immigrated from Poland call themselves Polish-Americans? It's such a trivial matter, anyway.

See, you sad feck, you cant even say if you are one or the other! let me put this simply....ARE YOU POLISH????

No. Not even close. Yes, slaves were sold here, but many people came here to escape the crowns in Europe.

Of course, but then again you cant even trace ur family history to that date can you?

ethnicity

Which would mean more than just having a father or mother from a given country.
As for the rest, please dont lecture me about it. You are American, not Polish. End of story.

To Poles who've largely felt shunned by W. Europe.. it probably buys the right to participate.

Maybe, but they never stuck it out long enough did they?

Look one Polish person didn't decide that.. lots of people did.

Last time it was put to a vote, the Polish people voted against it.

I wonder how many of these Plastic Poles would choose Poland over America if they had to? None of them would, I bet.

Of course not, they love to say they are Polish....but they are no more Polish than any Russian, actually, being in America probably means they have more in common with Russia than Poland!

Surprising.. but he probably can speak the lingo..

I bet you good money he cant ;)

Sorry.. Do you have Polish blood in you? If you did.. would you not feel some affinity towards the country? It's really not so deep, you know..

I lived there for long enough to know how much the Polish hate the so called Polish in America who have the vote but refuse to live in Poland.

I'm sure he's been to Poland. I have been to the N. West side of Chicago... maybe it's not Poland per se.. but apparently it's pretty damn close.

He has admitted before he hasnt been.

The US is a VERY young country

Agreed, but its the US...

. Who, indeed, shares no blood with the native Pole.

The Polish people?

So there ya go, dtaylor, you are a Scottish dude living in Poland.

No I am not! Get your facts right first...

we use decent to help identify ourselves.

No you didn't, you slaved most people to your country.

Polish is my ethnicity

The spelling of your name doesn't make you Polish...

When a Pol-Am talks about being Polish it's usually to distinquish between other Americans.

You are no different to any other American, cos guess what, you still live there!!!

You have no idea what is happening in Poland and still you have no future there, cos guess what, U will never plan to live there will ya?

So you have lived many years in Poland. How many people who know you irl say you are Polish just because you happen to have lived in Poland.

None cos im Scottish!

They might say you are some English bloke living in Poland. Dude, with me, I actually get called Polish when people see or hear my last name.

No again, they get to know me and find out i am Scottish. Unlike you who is not Polish, You are just some American claiming to be Polish though no one in this country would consider you Polish.

I find it funny the amount of threads on PFs

well i have been in the US, and lived many years in Poland. Then again this is Polishforums (even the admin cant say he has ever been in the country) and not the US forums.

I find it so funny the amount of so called Poles in America who consider Poland as their home and yet have not set a foot there! The fact they have the right to vote should be illegal, the fact that they have any word on their so called homeland is laughable! "I'm Polish but yeah, i couldnt even point it out on a map, let alone want to live there!"

Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

You mean just American born, or also Polish born naturalized citizens?

Isn't it two very different things?

I don't think it's possible for a 1st generation immigrant to lose his nationality, but I do feel more and more European by the day.

Can you explain exactly what makes you feel European?

Law / The best job in the World - Polish farmer. [50]

it doesn't help the farmers, does it...?

Not really, it's the opposite way around, for free range a farmer must pay even more of a percentage of his intake to buy suitable food, crop, ect.

Law / The best job in the World - Polish farmer. [50]

If the product is good enough, then I want to give my hard earned cash straight to the person who supplies it, not to a shop that demands the prices should be at the lowest so that the farmer must give a poorer end product.

For example do I wanna pay £2 for a chicken that has been reared intensively or am I willing to pay £6 for a free ranged chicken???

  • intensively reared chicken farming

they come to the city and want at least double prices for their products

In my opinion so they should, that's what the actual product is worth under the right circumstances.

if they are dairy farmers they can never go together as a family on a holiday

Bull, they just ask another member of the family to look after farm, or the farmer from the next farm. Simple.

i think a farmer's job has its pro and cons, like any other profession...

It's tough work, long hours and not much thanks, but cant be great too :) From personal experience though our family has down sized the size of our cattle herd and moved into horse racing and breeding stock. Most of the land, I'd say about 80% now is subsidized by the EU.

News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

Indeed, I was born in Hanover in 1984 with my father as the command of the RTR used to tell me the most interesting stories when he was drunk lol! Maggie spent her war councils having a few sips of the good stuff, especially when her hubby was there, which was almost always :D

News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

They might have done. But not on a scale that nukes would have. From the stories my father told me there would have been over 90 nukes planted along the border and into western Europe. That truely would have destroyed Europe as we knew it today. To think that we had world leaders considering this...?

That's true, the idea was to (tactical) nuke the Fulda gap should any armor move across the border.

It went a little further, to the point they actually tested nukes with chickens inside. The thought was that since the winter was too cold to keep the electronics working properly on a timed scale, having a live chicken buried underground with the nuke with enough food to last it, say a week or two, meant that once the chicken died of starvation, the temperature gauge on the nuke would lower and set it off! strange but true!

News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

The fact is the whole of central Europe was on course to be destroyed completely by the Americans and British, its the main reason the USSR never advanced, what would be the point if you had nothing left for it.

News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

Well...since they have nukes the neighbours don't think about invading it again...so for them it was a good bargain.

It hasn't stopped the neighbours from attacking without care. Israel would never use its so called arsenal, if it did it would loose face with the world.
