Gender identity issues are as old as the hills! Typically though, as with most everything else deemed "deviant", it was never, ever, ever discussed or even hinted at certainly not in public (perhaps not in private either).
Surely Freud and colleagues had studied umpteen examples of this while studying the human mind.

The entire issue seems to me as a male more than anything else a matter of personal space and nothing more!
Obviously, ingrained cultural ideologies play a significant role as well, namely, what constitutes "manly" vs. "womanly" behavior. Women have testosterone too, you know:-)

LGBTQ along with transgender identity are nonetheless still foreign to most Poles and the country continues to grapple with it, considering the hold of the Catholic Church of the country's morality.
Germany, Spain, Sweden, even Italy, exhibit slightly more liberal acceptance of what many considered societally deviant behavior.

Language / Is Polish easy to learn? [10]

I grew up with German and English, almost bilingual.
Had I tried to master German completely, naturally, all but indistinguishably from a German-born native speaker by the time I'd entered my freshman year of college at roughly eighteen, I'd have flunked from the first day of Frau Koerner's class with flying colors LOL
Any language can be learned the younger one is, practically as with any motor skill, from foreign languages to driver's ed.
Polish admittedly is a far different quantity from either English or German. As the latter are both related Germanic languages, it stands to reason they would be easy to master for Brits, Yanks or anybody with a similar mother tongue.
Being a Slavic language, Polish presents certain immediate obstacles for foreign learners, not the least of which is the base vocab., followed by pronunciation, thereupon counting quirks and paired verbal aspects.
Polish children naturally absorb the latter with their mother's milk:-)

However from a sheer practical point of view, it's well worth the effort.

Yes, good analogy. Both Czech and Ukrainian, unlike Polish or Russian, lack the "h" sound in their language, therefore UkCz.."holub", not Pol. "golab", Uk/Cz.. "holodni" vs. Pol. "glodny" etc.

If you're referring here to the age-old sex abuse scandal within the Church, you're sadly correct!
Perhaps the entire point here is that Wojtyla was NOT a saint, nor did he ever pretend that he was....holier than thou.
He was in the truest sense the people's pope, who proved his metal often under the most trying of circumstances.

Karol Wojtyla was the first Pope in recorded history to publically apologize to to the Jews for centuries of anti-Semitic hatred and persecution at the hands of the Roman Catholic Church! As with many committed Christians, he struggled with his faith and tried his level best to reconcile his deep belief in Christian teachings with the wrongs perpetrated against many non-Christians in the name of the Church.Unlike Martin Luther, he didn't excoriate the Jews for not wishing to convert to the "superior" religion:-)
During the Second World War, he showed rare courage as a member of the Polish Underground Resistance while still a young priest, continuing to fight the scourge of Communism and dictatorship until his last breath.
