Life / Do Poles have a problem understanding American English? [76]

Poland and other countries are loathe to hire educated native-English speakers at all

Do you really mean to tell me that all foreign-language teachers working in the USA are foreigners / native speakers of the languages they teach? At all levels of education? BTW, I am a trained English teacher and I do not think my English is at all faulty. I am not a native speaker of course, as I can't be reborn.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

I am Polish/Czech bilingual and you bet Czech is harder. I grew up speaking, reading, and writing both languages equally, but I still have to look up the finer points of Czech grammar and spelling from time to time, as opposed to Polish.

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

It probably meant he was getting really hot and bothered, nudge nudge, wink wink ;-)
It's a profanity you would use to express many different emotions, including excitement and admiration. Therefore, you should not concentrate on the word itself, but more on the speaker's body language, facial expression, and tone of voice.

Love / What do Polish women think of Italian/Native American men? [23]

I, for one, do not really catalogue men (or people in general) according to their ethnic background. Nevertheless, I kinda like my men to be rather blondish with grey, green, or blue eyes, probably because I see dark hair and eyes in the mirror every day and find them boring. I also like the right kind of red-head, BTW.

So, to answer your question - I have no particular thoughts about either Italian and Native American men separately, or about men with both ancestries. Some might be quite charming, I suppose. But I would not automatically favour them just because of their looks. Nevertheless, many European women, including Polish women, do go for the "dark and mysterious" look ;-)

Love / Polish women: what do you think of Polish men? Physically unattractive? [180]

there are very few 'extraordinarily' handsome men in Poland

Do you even know what "extraordinary" means?

merriam-webster.com/dictionary/extraordinary

In order words, Polish men are not superhumanly handsome. Neither are any other men on this planet of ours.

This does not in any way imply that there are very few handsome men in Poland.

Take a stroll down town Copenhagen or Stockholm

I've been to Copenhagen, I've been to Amsterdam, I've been to Germany, I currently live in the UK, and no, I was definitely NOT bowled over. So no, I DON'T see what you mean.

And finally: thank you for your kind wishes, I will definitely have a nice day.

Love / Polish women: what do you think of Polish men? Physically unattractive? [180]

To sum up: most of the women in this thread have agreed that Polish men are neither extraordinarily handsome nor horrifyingly ugly. Many of them are indeed attractive. They are not inferior in the looks department to this mythical creature, the Western Male.

On the other hand, the men in this thread, even though nobody asked them for their opinion in the first place, have been having a field day describing Polish men as a cross between hamsters and troglodytes (or similar) with the dress sense of a mediaeval peasant.

I never dreamt men could get so catty! ;-)

McDouche:
"Ok, weird shaped faces and fat tends to build up in their cheeks. With men, fat usually evenly distributes around the body but with Polish men, it tends to concentrate in their faces. Also, it doesn't help when a lot of Polish men shave their heads."

You mean something like this?

Do these things make me feminine? Or undesirable?

No. On the other hand, if you (hypothetically) let your wife / partner choose your clothes, friends, food, and hobbies for you - that would make you a "feminine" man. If you let her spend all your money on what she thinks is best - ditto.

Also, I don't think "masculine" men are unfaithful, beat their partners, shirk domestic responsibilities, or are uncaring in the bedroom. Where on Earth did you get that idea from?

Believe it or not, but Polish and Czech teenagers did mingle. They would go travelling with their parents or participate in international youth camps. You make it sound like there was an iron curtain between each and every socialist state. I'm talking about the eighties and early nineties here mind you. I am sure that nowadays, the mingling that's going on is much more intense :-)

Poland coming second.

Second. So that should mean...

Facial features, plain and simple.

You want me to be brutal? German men do not look typically masculine. How else should I phrase it? I did say they look and act feminine.

male model agencies

Male models are not masculine-looking. I have just had a look at a modelling agency website working with various nationalities. The models all look horrible, simpering at the camera like a bunch of teenage girls, but even so, some of the Polish and Russian ones at least do have some vestiges of masculine features - like sharp cheekbones and strong chins.

Love / Polish women: what do you think of Polish men? Physically unattractive? [180]

my observations are corroborated by many others,

Well, MY observations are corroborated by many others, e.g. when I was a teenager, whenever I visited my friends in Prague, they would go absolutely gaga over Polish boys. Also, my female Czech friends of various ages have often commented that Czech men have no testosterone and make lousy partners.

the phenomena being so noticeable.

Well, I for one haven't noticed it.

Germanic influence on Czech republic (cultural and genetic) is indisputable, you should know that as a Czech.

The Germanic influence on Poland (cultural and genetic) is indisputable, you should know that as a Pole (flagless or not).

Heard quite a few opinions by Polish girls visiting for example Berlin as to the rather perceptible spike in male attractiveness over there.

Of course they found them attractive - because German men tend to look and act more feminine than Polish men. Read my post above about Polish women and what they want in a man.

Love / Polish women: what do you think of Polish men? Physically unattractive? [180]

no it's just factual,

Then give me facts backing up the claim that Czechs 1) have a greater Germanic genetic admixture than Poles, and 2) that this admixture makes them somehow more attractive physically.

let's call a spade a spade for once

OK. I'm half Czech and I've been to CZ countless times and stayed for long periods, and I find Czech men either ugly or bland-looking. There is nothing about them that would attract me as a woman.

I also find German men quite uninteresting visually.
On the other hand, I find Polish and Russian men quite handsome.

Now it's my word against yours. ;-p

Love / Polish women: what do you think of Polish men? Physically unattractive? [180]

I am a native half-Polish woman and I think Polish men are exactly as good looking as any other men on the planet; i.e., some are great-looking, some are so-so, and some are ugly. As to personality, I would probably find Polish men more attractive than other nationalities, because we tend to share some character traits. I do not think Polish men generally "look like hobos" or are "racist dinosaurs". On the other hand, I see nothing especially attractive in Polish women - I find them mostly very stuck-up and hoity-toity, in two very different versions: either the super-modern ultra-liberal feminist, or the small-town bird-brained "little woman"; neither are usually able to think outside the box; they love ready made opinions that they can spout as their own. Nevertheless, they are very strong women with a great feeling of entitlement and purpose; the purpose is to live what they would call a "good" life - e.g. to acquire all those pleasant attributes of success: a nice car, a nice house, a handsome and obedient husband, some nice and obedient children... "obedient" being the key word here. Polish men tend to be rebellious, with a love of anarchy and a wild streak a mile wide, at least until their mothers and wives beat it out of them. Polish women see them not as true adults, but as little boys who have simply grown taller and who therefore need guidance throughout their lives. They often suffer relapses in married life and this is troublesome to the lady of the house. It is therefore only natural that the Polish female rejoices in western men who have long ago gotten in touch with their femininity and who have largely succumbed to the feminist view that testosterone is a dangerous substance which should ideally be forbidden.

Life / Help me find this Polish band and song.... [117]

As I said before, you should try Belorussian folk music as well. My grandfather came from that general area and the three cultures - Polish, Belorussian, and Lithuanian - were quite intertwined.

Language / Extremely Hard - Polish the hardest language to learn [226]

English is both very easy and very hard. Easy, because it is very simple to learn the basics if all you want to say is things like "how much does this cost?" or "where's the toilet?" or "I'm hungry".

Hard, because once you pass that level you get hit with tense structures, idioms, prepositions, and vocabulary with an intensity that only the hardiest learners can survive ;-)

In Polish or most other languages however, you need to study grammar a lot more even if you want to say something really basic. That makes such languages seem more formidable to the beginner.

Don't be so snarky. The OP's grandmother was Lithuanian. That doesn't mean that she couldn't have had contact with Polish culture or indeed married into a Polish family.
