Life / Life in Poland - ECONOMY [59]

By 2028 North Nigeria will be down to 17th

Poland will overtake the NNs in about 2033. But probably slip out of the top 20. Thailiand, Vietnam, the Philippines and probably South Africa will overtake Poland by 2040.

On the bright side Golden Cow arranged an epic fly past by a B52 at the cost of several million bucks. An awesome show of strength before getting on his knees before Putler

Pretty weird seeing Polish Americans who want to send 8th generation blacks "back" to lower the crime rate.

Surely there are people in the the Polish American community who are criminals too ?

2am dude - time to go to bed. Tomorrow's a new day and all the possibilities of a summer Friday - baseball, barbecue, a trip with the grandkids to the mall then an ice cream

Or are you waiting up for the home invaders to arrive ? Pop gun at the ready on your nightstand.

Decaying

Now there's a great description of suburban America.

Salmon BTW is half the price here than in the US. Have a nice side chilling in the fridge with some great French wine and Italian cheese ready for a family visit tomorrow.

Right, you can pick apples off the floor or drive round to some far off state and buy them from a tax dodging farmer.

Yes, amazingly, we have markets and street stalls, wholesalers, discount clubs and everything in between.

And stop talking about illogical ass pounds and ounces. Poland has been using kilos since Napoleonic times. just like the other 180 countries in the world.

As for this guff about comparing with earnings, well that works if you are a paid employee, punch your card at 9. Then sitting in a dusty office, striving to make those HP payments on your used car with weird stains on the seats and suburban house. Yes Mr Smith ! Thankyou Mr Smith !

People in Poland who work like that are in a minority - about 9m are salaried, with many taking on other work or side hustles.

Who gives a **** about your apples and your medieval weights and measures that only Americans use.

They are about 5 zloty a kilo in Biedronka this week.

You know the Polish stock exchange is up 34 percent in zloty terms in 2025 ?

In Dollar terms its 44 percent (Golden Cow has trashed the dollar)

Even the dear old Brits are up 11 percent (19 percent in dollar terms)

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [412]

When did you see it ? With your own eyes ?

The area it flows through has been significantly depopulated since the war and even more since German reunification. Many of its communities are now split in two - Gubin, Frankfurt, Kostrzyn. Its main towns Opole and Wroclaw are connected by fast road to GdaƄsk, Hamburg and Szczecin - how could boats compete ?

I don't know when it stopped being a trade artery but I do t think it is Tusk's fault. I reckon I crossed it 300 times and never really saw any commercial barges

What do you expect to happen on the Oder ? It's pleasant enough but better for birdwatching than trade. You think it will be something like Rotterdam ?

Speaking of gold, the Golden Cow circus has been in town again

Announced high tariffs on gold bar imports. Realized shortly afterwards that this is nuts and reversed course

Not before a few well placed insiders had skimmed hundreds of billions from a price spike

The economic team in the Whitehouse is really low quality unfortunately - a reason why the dollar remains week

You guys complain about everything - pretty weird to get so upset about a car

It's flexible enough that nobody left and lots of countries joined.

You are talking about problems that were a generation ago - the fact people are happy to use it outweighs most arguments.

I'm fine with the zloty but ultimately if you invest in zloty long term you are at the whim of Polish politics

How do you feel the EUR is obsolete and cannot work ?

If people are happy to transact in EUR then QED it works

The EUR is already the de facto currency for big transactions in Poland and has been for about 10 years - want to build a freeway or an airport or an apartment block ? You will be borrowing and repaying in EUR. Want to export or import something - even to non EUR countries UK or Switzerland ? Often the invoice is in EUR.

It's the same in Hungary and Romania.

Zloty are increasingly for the tram and Zabka.

I know the political steps will take a long time but it's a situation where the market is moving quicker than a bunch of right wing voters in small towns

Instead of fighting in pubs with Ukrainians or Poles couldn't they show their love for North Nigeria by volunteering for a stint in the muddy trenches of Pokrovsk, with a crappy 1950s rifle ?

For Poland ? A strange move politically as savings levels are way too low and much better to encourage people into lokata or safe investments before they encourage stock market investing - something like Premium bonds or tax free muni bonds would be more sensible. Too many Polish families are putting their savings into buy-to-let crappy apartments, which is also not ideal.

For the equity markets then I just don't think there are enough Polish public companies to absorb this amount of new capital, half of the market is various monopolies or state run businesses, and then you are down to maybe 15 to 20 well-run businesses.

As an investment - it's OK, don't really see the downside - if the tax kicks in at 100k then just stop at 100k. Can you still do IKE, IKZE and this too ? If so then it's a pretty good deal (though again it's strange politics, they are helping out the richest part of of society.)

You think, like Golden Cow, that it is correct to compare the interest rates of Switzerland or Botswana and the USA as a justification for lowering rates in the US?

And you are calling me an idiot ?

Why do different currencies have different interest rates ?

Balls of Steel are you serious?

Er...because they are subject to different economic conditions - inflation, borrowing, supply, demand, volatility, freedom of movement, tax etc

Go find a bank in North Nigeria that will lend to you at 5 percent.

I assume Golden Cow knows this, having invested in a great deal of foreign real estate. If he doesn't then the fact that no advisor would tell him this simple Economics 101 fact is a clear sign of a cult.

How would you reduce interest rates without further damaging the dollar and causing more inflation ?

That Leavitt woman made a bizarre presentation comparing US interest rates to other countries - but they are for different currencies. She is such a weird person

They are based on surveys, not speculation

If she was a moron why was she approved by all members of the Senate ?

So your assumption is that any bad number is an attempt to make Golden Cow look bad ?

Is she in any political party ?

Cult thinking

No i am happy with your 200.000 figure. But your claim yesterday to have made 50.000 in a few months also implies you have 500k liquid in the market - even more if you consider tax.

So I know you have balls of steel.

6 stocks please

Oh wow ! Mr Balls of Steel is back ! When are you going to give us your six stock picks ? I can even give you late entrance into our competition- PolAm won the first round easily, but now with your 6 picks there would be a new sheriff in town.

So tell us, as a man who puts down 200.000 buck bets on a single stock. If the Labour office statistics have never been correct, where do you get your reliable and bankable information from? Would love the advice.
