Real Estate / Flat rental in Warsaw [54]

Any business transaction in my professional experience involves some sort of added incentive and anybody who claims opposite is LYING!
Such can come in the form of either a close personal or professional referral, even a letter of reference from a cleric, but never have I heard of waltzing into another country, "Hi, I'm here!", and effecting a deal, sight unseen.
That's pure BS, gang!

Come on, people! What planet are YOU living on?? Bribery was as much a daily staple in the Black Market as La Kamora or L'Indranghetta, still alive and well in present day Italy!
Get your heads out of the sand.

Sure there are.
However, as here in the US, a little envelope doesn't hurt either.

Possibly, however Poland, as with other countries with a Black Market past, doesn't simply allow foreigners to rent unless the broker or landlord has been reached somehow in order to "smooth the way",so to speak.
Sorry to disappoint you, Bambi😄.

Simply that it's highly unlikely for a complete outsider to arrive in Poland just like that and rent a flat without either an intro aka lapowka or look physically as though that person would fit in.

Poland is not like Western European nations in this respect.

That's all I meant, no offense.

I take it you have local contacts or you know at least the lingo?
If not, you're really screwed unless you look like a hunk!

@Torq,
Never allow religion to interfere with your knowledge of science. After all, both are headed in the same direction!

Not to be taken literally, Rich.
Ever watch "Inherit the Wind" w/Frederic March and Spencer Tracy?
The world was created in seven days. But how long was a day? Perhaps a million years!
Do you also not believe in dinosaurs, Rich?

G-d is man's representation of a higher order beyond our ability to grasp. Some call it nature.

As Disraeli is quoted as saying, there are lies, there are damned lies, and there are statistics.

At least in thirty out of the fifty states, capital punishment hasn't been found to be a deterrent to capital crimes such as first degree murder.

Religion is really little, indeed nothing, more than a higher moral structure. Some call that G-d, others Christ, still others Jaweh, Allah and so on.The Kantian hypothesis doesn't hold water, as he didn't postulate the existence of G-d, instead why G-d could logically NOT exist! These are two separate concepts Kant tackles for numerous pages in his Critique of Pure Reason.

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 27 [1110]

Quite correct, Tacitus. History is (usually) written by the victors.
@Rich,
Donbass is a Ukrainian-speaking region which was taken over by the former Soviet Union, obviously well before Putin!

Szczecin was German-speaking Stettin.for centuries until annexed to the German Reich by Hitler, later taken "back" by Poland and re-named Szczecin.
Most Eastern European city names are bilingual in German and the native nomenclature.

Donbass and Donetsk lie technically aka historically in Ukrainian territory.
This is a situation analogous with Israel and Palestine; the Palestinians claim the Golan Heights for Arab lands, Israel claims same for historically Judaean lands.
