Travel / Looking for a new long-term stay in Poland [18]

@Evada, do yourself and the rest of your neighbors a big favor by learning the basics of the language
PRIOR to arriving in Poland!

Poles on average, much as we here in the US, are growing just a wee bit tired of foreigners coming
to our country with zero knowledge of the target language.

In this case, your knowledge of Polish need scarcely be perfect, even fluent, but it shouldn't be non-existent.
You can't always rely on English to get by:-)

History / BEATS OF FREEDOM - A HISTORY OF POLISH ROCK MUSIC [108]

In an interview with Roman Polanski, he mentioned that when he
was making "Noz w wodzie" in 1962, jazz was in fact forbidden in Poland
and the director had to negotiate with aka bribe the Polish authorities in order
to allow him to include the jazz soundtrack in the film which gave it its special
bite and cool flavor.

Freedom to follow yet a different beat, so it seems!

Study / Studying in Poland without speaking Polish? [15]

If the instructors are native, educated English speakers, somebody
from the States, the UK or Australia could study a subject in Poland
taught by a native speaker of their mother tongue, no brainer.

However, for a Hausa native speaker from Nigeria with English only
as a second, perhaps third, language to expect to profit from going to,
say, Poland or Germany or wherever on the continent of Europe to study
in a language NOT their own, and taught by a professor whose native tongue
isn't English either, seems to me the stuff of high comedy...and the joke is on
the foreign student!

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [412]

@Johnny, I've been arguing the same point for years now and it's
already moot!

Your ilk has all but forgotten that in life, you don't do twenty-four seven
just what you want to do, but what you HAVE to do...or else.

Every movement has its downside. Yet pre-Civil Right, non-white Americans,
tax paying citizens, many of whom fought and fought proudly in the Big One,
didn't even have library privileges in certain states, much less the basic freedoms
they enjoy today.

You're mired in the same prejudices as the rest of America. You're deafened, dumbed down,
and sheer blinded by the race issue.

By the by, Bloomberg has Harris ahead as well and the last time I fact checked, Bloomberg
News is an independent, indeed Centrist to Right leaning, news agency.

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [412]

According to this week's NYT, Scholz just won a victory against the encroaching AfD
in Saxony and Thuringia! As Europe is slowly turning Left once again, this seems to
dovetail with Harris' steady lead over Trump!

I hope people are getting tired of the same ol' reactionary song and dance about
stray foreigners taking over white collar jobs etc.
While there may be some degree of statistical truth to such a claim, it's no reason
to turn the clock back pre-Civil Rights and a return to the bad old days.

Moderation, not extremism either Right or Left, should remain the watchword.

I still prefer Old timer jazz, boogey-woogey, "The Duke" Ellington, some early Beatles,
Paul Mauriac "Love is blue" (L'amour est bleu) and a whole bunch of antedelluvian hits:-)

Off-Topic / What was the point when Europe stopped being all-White? [66]

@Milo, an insult by its very nature consists of besmirching someone's
intelligence, intellect etc. without one scintilla of proof.
Thus far, you've provided none whatsoever!

As far as my comments are concerned, they're the result of both careful research
along with observation over many years of travel and study, both here and abroad.

I'd have to concur!
Is Metallica popular in Poland, by the way?
Just curious.

Off-Topic / What was the point when Europe stopped being all-White? [66]

@Milo, if you can hire a Somali as opposed to a Polish welder, the average
capitalist/industrialist will clearly go for the former.

This trend developed once again when the male offspring of white welders
decided they would rather study instead of work with their hands their whole
lives.

During the immediate post-Industrial Revolution, round about the late 19th century,
relatively few ethnic Europeans actually attended university compared to those who
didn't!

This meant that only the elite in society either attended or graduated successfully from
a prestigious university/college, both in the US, the UK or the European Continent. The
rest who were less academically oriented were channeled, so to speak, into manual labor,
factory work or craftsmanship. The result was a high standard of workmanship which fueled
European society for generations to come...that is, until roughly around the years following
the end of WWII.

As capitalist bosses were permitted to give unbridled vent to their inherent greed, quality, much less
"fairness" in hiring eventually took a back seat to the expedience of cheap labor from non-white countries
in order tor the top 1% to save a few bucks by eating filet mignon off of gold plates while would-be native-
born precision laborers from Britain, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherland were pushed aside.

Off-Topic / What was the point when Europe stopped being all-White? [66]

Obviously, this trend began long after the end of WWII, in all
likelihood during the end of the so-called economic miracle,
post 1965 and the demise of the Adenauer Era, when Southern
Europeans, especially from Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece, were later
followed by Turks, Nigerians, Vietnamese, and Somalis.

As native Germans, Dutch, Swedes, Danes and even white Brits, felt themselves
too educated to work with their hands, perform dangerous factory labor etc. as their ancestors
had done for generations since the Industrial Revolution, the need arose to "import" cheaper
wage, non-white foreigners from any number of developing nations, eager as anybody to earn
more than merely a living wage in the West.

It's all simple capitalist economics, gang!

Not sure right off the top of my head, but apparently,
there are more of them the I thought:-)

Always knew certain "modern" Polish classical composers
such as the late Krzysztof Penderecki and others were a
frequent staple at concerts.

Language / Older Polish Exclamations/Swears [14]

Recently re-watched the movie "Wesele" from the mid-'00's and it
sounded as though every other word were some crass curse word.

Same as when watching a movie in English from around the early sixties
compared with a similar movie nowadays. The language is nearly unrecognizable.
