History / Poland in a Slavic Union/Alliance/Federation? [335]

Well, we have seen NATO almost push Poland into the line of fire through insisting on that nonsense missile shield. Where is the urgency now? Things with Russia got better and then Obama stepped in to offer weaponry to Poland (idiot). I don't think a Slavic Union would be conniving like that. We don't want tension and NATO powers look for it.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

Let's not sidetrack by delving into Islam, £ódź. I've never read the Haddith or Koran/Quran so....

Anyway, what is the remit of the church here? Why do they collect money when Jesus wasn't known to do so? Why do people not follow their teachings as soon as they leave the church?

The church was not strong during communistic times. They could have their distraction through it but the regime was designed to streamline how people lived and not to be subject to so many outside influences. Even English-language radio was seen as a potential step too far for some.

Ender, yes, there are Tatars. I'm not saying that the RCC sponsored killings like many commies did.

Who is talking of problems, ender? Are you aware of how rapidly Islam is spreading? Don't you feel that Christian churches should look for commonalities and move closer?

Power to do what, ender? According to the Constitution, Poland is secular and the seat of power lies in the Sejm.

Well, there are concerted drives to bridge the Anglican and RCC, ender. This has been going on for some time and they are ironing out the creases at present. This is a future reality.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

I can't speak for sobieski but I may be able to give you some of where delph is coming from, ender. We are both from the same city and he may have developed a dislike for Catholicism from there. Why? Well, they have their own schools there and they tend to highlight their 'otherness' too much. Rather than just be educated according to the national curriculum and standard syllabi, they try to elevate themselves. I know that my mother personally blames overly devout Catholicism for OTT behaviour. Delph, being a man that tends to go beyond the superficial slant, may also be aware of some of the other behind-the-scenes dealings of the church.

For example, The Pope disingenuously talked of peace in the ME the other day when he will do nothing to bring it about. Hamas won't recognise Israel and Israel need them to do that as a prerequisite. End of story!! I'd really have more respect for the Pope were he to go and live in amongst Palestinians and see how they lose their houses through bulldozing and raids. Words float in the breeze but the RCC, if it is to mention the ME struggle at all, must intervene to put an end to suffering. What did the Palestinians have to do with WWII? They sent one leader as a sympathiser, wow. I could talk of peace too and does that make me as holy as them? What is the church actually doing about ANYTHING, ender? Please enlighten me. I'm trying to be open minded here but I need to see that they are more than just self-appointed figureheads.

Yeah, they have been quite active recently. I don't see the problem in maintaining both your Silesian identity and your Polishness. There is no need to break away and fragment in such fashion.

What, Albos breed like rabbits, swarm into Kosovo and then make it independent. Sth which is in total violation of the Serbian Constitution. It was Serbian until 2006. You think that's fair? So Silesia can break away from Poland then?

When's the plan to be activated, Torq? Let's set up a thread for training. We have a Ukrainian (please don't use cyrillic, pleeeeease), some Russians (the same, pleeease), many from the Balkans etc etc.

If the Mods allow it, a sentence will be posted in, say, Polish, and the Slav of another language will have to translate it (WITHOUT translators) into their language and, of course, English. We musn't forget the primacy of English in the overall scheme of things :)

What d'ya say?

Kosovo is not a Muslim state. Many Albos are Christian (most not), as are Serbs for the most part. The allegations were made by the Council of Europe and not the RCC. Thaci was clearly a part of it as he is scum.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Many Slavs don't even see the s which baffles me. They even change things to avoid saying it at the end, e.g its depend. I mean, do they lose God's Grace if they pronounce the s or what? Is it the letter of the devil?

Polish was chosen as the hardest language? You see, you can't have a poll where everyone chooses so it's pathetic to even have such an order of things.

Language / Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus - a religious greeting? [39]

I would just stop at 'niech będzie pochwa' :) :) It's a pleasant short form :)

Sth akin to the thread words would be said in first footing in Scotland as a sign of welcoming people.

There should be more on the work of Jesus at Xmas. Putting things on tv would likely get more people interested in the Bible :)

What will change, Crow? How will you win back this territory? It won't happen democratically as Thaci won the elections just 2 weeks ago. Serbia really needs help on this one. How can you regard Russia as your friends when they do little to help? If NATO can waltz in, so can they.

Would Kosovo be part of that confederation, Crow? Thaci doesn't strike me as being interested in the wellbeing of Slavs at all. What do you propose should be done with him?

Maybe we should consult askdragandabić.com?? ;)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Someguy is full of nonsense. For a start, there is no way that he speaks all those languages fluently. Besides, Japanese is not the hardest at all. I'd be happy to speak Japanese with him and I can tell him I'm not Japanese. It is hard, yes, but it's a case of memorising some difficult counters and also some irregularities like in most languages. For example, kai is the counter for building floor but it changes to gai for 3, i.e sangai :) The animal counters are tough, right enough.

It depends who the learner is, really. Polish is harder for some people. Nihon no hatsuon ha yasashii dayo. Wymowa tutaj, to inna sprawa :0 Anyway can type any bull on the net (I should know) ;)

Can you talk jive or smack too? :)

Well, it isn't a waste of time as knowing language doesn't hurt. However, it was likely thrust upon them so they are hardly gonna be inclined to use it.

Still, as Crow continually points out, there has to be some sacrifice and he is willing to learn Polish to keep his hopes for the future alive. Who can really knock him for that? I have to test his current level with my flawed Polish ;0 ;)

He will try his best, I'm sure. We should check his current progress on a Polish language thread here.

£ódź, how do you get round the fact that Russian just isn't that popular to learn here in Poland? English is by far the more popular option and language changes thinking :) :) It doesn't augur/bode well for a future Slavic alliance, does it? ;) ;)

I don't think a Slavic alliance would have too many problems in showing its efficacy to be higher than that of NATO. NATO sets out to combat 'noble' objectives but they have so many business people in their upper echelons that they lose sight of how to realistically tackle them.

News / Sikorski doctrine - Eastern Europe under threat. Poland's foreign policy. [203]

I just feel that he would have rocked the boat, Nate. He was known to be anti-Russian.

A third player, ROTFL. Russia would soon change that.

The Celts are in Scotland and Ireland, thanks :) (not only) The Irish, being the weaker Celts ;) ;) ;), lost their Tiger but the Scots still have their coveted lion :)

Oh, we are not really under threat either :)

£ódź, why not try for a Slavic alliance?

In the above link, it can be seen that NATO is going through definitional problems and some within are floundering.

The question is, £ódź, would a Slavic partnership across the board be more cohesive (in longevity terms) than the shaky EU big 3/US partnership? IMHO, NATO has been embarrassed in Afghanistan and we see how small and insignificant Germany is in military terms.
