Yeah....I learned that very early....Germans lost their homes which were rebuild/resettled by people who lost their homes too...got one thinking also from early on!

I adore these old photos....a window into another time, another world.....so rare!

But they make me melancholic too...all dead and gone now...

...say, is it the same with all dialects?

The only one I find a bit bearable (for a short time that is) is the "Wiener Schmäh"....the dialect spoken in Vienna....but otherwise they are all gruesome, arent' they! :)

(I would even admit that my "Berliner Schnauze" must sound horrible to non-Berliner Germans!)

Of course, for the world, the results of German unification were a little bit scary.

Of course....they only used primary math:

one strong unit + another seemingly strong unit = one superstrong unit = scary

But unification of countries/peoples just doesn't work that way.....a good lesson! Could be that Russia will have to learn that too, should it add (former) ukrainian lands and people.

And there is alot more....germanic paganism differs from the native ones in Bolivia...or the latin one, the nordic one or the slavic one, etc....the dates differ, the traditions differ....but at some point Christianity took over, and to make conversion easier they adapted the cherished dates. Even the term "paganism" is a christian one...

....na ja, Google showed it's rather recent and has more to do with a rediscovering of the old native culture (as is Paganism in Europe and North America).

When the christian re-building of St.Johns didn't get such a hold with the Christians then probably because people and kids didn't get to stuff themselves so much! :)

(I'm fairly sure the Pagans in Britain are marking summer solstice too, just not St. Johns)

Similiar to Easter (origin Equinox) and Christmas (origin Winter Solstice)....I guess the success till today is the sugar coma for the little ones (and grown ups) the West has made of them! :)
