History / Is there any part of Polish history that's at least a bit glorious? [239]

it is of course easier to blame Germany for it.

I agree....blaming Germany for every wart and all was and is always good and practical rhetoric for every nationalist, conservative gov in Europe. Not totally without reason, Berlin was ruled rather leftist/green since the Merkel years...lotsa crap got made into law!

I wonder how they will react if Germany truly gets their own nationalist, conservative (real conservative that is, not the fake conservative which has no problem working together with the Left greatly) gov one day with the AfD....

Will they understand each other und work better together because of that or rather not? Back to butting heads like in the last century?

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [1440]

and AfD has not shown anything yet and everyone wants AfD.

Maybe thats it?

AfD is not like Dubai Chocolate, nobody really know how they "taste"! And the "Brandmauer" will keep it that way, and the AfD can go on promising heaven and says secretly DANKE!

Off-Topic / Is Islam a threat to western society? [167]

Religion is generally losing appeal in modern societies

...hmm....that might play a part....but I'm not sure that is all of it.....lotsa people still want to believe in something eternal...greater values than their own small, short lives....

The "modern" churches of our "modern" societies don't fulfill that need anymore...following rather the "modern Zeitgeist".

.....the numbers are interesting....in Germany the "modernized" Church is losing members like the leftist parties lose voters generally.

There is a connection, I believe!

Not this one, I think....the leftist german media just cried yesterday, as the news came in!

And whenever usual conservatives get hailed by the left (mostly for being so "progressive" and "modern") one true conservative needs to get suspicious....

Remember CDU-Merkel? She is still hailed and missed by SPD/Greens/Linke....after all she "modernized" the CDU so greatly....*eye roll*

What options! :

A Putin-Fan:

Congolese monk Fridolin Ambongo Besungu (65) is internationally considered a Putin sympathizer. Last year, the Attorney General of the Kinshasa Court of Cassation ordered the initiation of a judicial investigation against the cleric. He is accused of making inflammatory statements that are said to constitute "incitement of the population to revolt and attacks on human life." He is considered a leading candidate.

A Trump-Fan:

Cardinal Gerhard-Ludwig Müller (77).He is politically considered part of Donald Trump's camp. The former Munich professor rose from Bishop of Regensburg to head of the Papal Authority for the Doctrine of the Faith. Francis did not renew his position. Since then, he has been considered a critic of Francis. The friend of Gloria von Thurn und Taxis (65) has an outside chance.

A brave man:

The preferred candidate of many European cardinals is the Patriarch of Jerusalem, the Italian Pierbattista Pizzaballa (59). As pope, he could greatly promote peace in the Holy Land. No other cardinal is equally accepted by Jews and Muslims.
After Pope Francis demanded the release of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas in the terrorist attack (October 7, 2023), Pizzaballa offered himself as a bargaining chip in exchange for the kidnapped Jewish children. He is the dignitary of the hearts of the faithful! The cardinal is highly valued by bishops and believers. Today is his birthday.

A favorite:

The perennial favorite is Cardinal Pietro Parolin (70). The Secretary of State is actually among the top favorites in every speculation. Parolin has served Francis since 2013. So far, he has played the role of a church official. Whether he could become a politician or even a charismatic figure remains unclear.

But there's an old saying in the Vatican: Whoever enters the conclave (election process) as a pope (meaning the top favorite) will emerge as a cardinal!

Spreading lies and sin rather than Christian values, is making Islam look like a good guy.

Thing is thats exactly that what christian churches actually do in Europe....they praise and support Islam like no other!

For them there are never enough islamist immigrants, and its "gods will" to be nice to all of them and just turn the other cheek....its what Jesus would do, right?

Speaking from german perspective of course....but what King Charles did let out just recently doesn't look better for GB either!

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

Soon, Poland will be a Rich country, I bet the support for the EU in Poland tanks....

With more money comes more power!

Poland's voice will get heard alot more...with it come possibilities. That the EU has to change, that reforms are necessary, is not a taboo anymore. With the elections the number of rightist/conservative countries grows, who can work together to make the EU fit their demands alot better!

It would be stupid to leave the EU just now.....and who knows, Britain will want to join that reformed EU again, heh:)

Worry not - Russia will never touch you.

I would love to believe you!

Before that invasion I would have stated rather the same, but something has changed....Putin has changed, nothing is impossible anymore.

....that too!

On the other hand Germanic tribes lived in these lands since ever!

...Archaeologists usually associate the earliest clearly identifiable Germanic speaking peoples with the Jastorf culture of the Pre-Roman Iron Age in central and northern Germany and southern Denmark from the 6th to 1st centuries BCE.....

So we are not like the kind of british, french or spanish colonialists in South America or somewhere on the globe.....

About that....interesting info:

....The considerable number of Slavic surnames in German - estimates range between 15% and 35%1 - is a clear sign of our close ties with the Slavs. A significant proportion of these names originate from Sorbian, although the exact distinction from Czech and Polish names is not always clearly possible. The names of national soccer player Michael Ballack and Saxon Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich, for example, are certainly of Sorbian origin. The latter is Sorb and also speaks Sorbian. Very early on, however, Sorbian names were simply translated in official documents. Thus, Šewc became Schuster, Kowar became Schmidt, Krawc became Schneider, etc., and this was usually the first step toward complete assimilation. While only modest remnants of the Sorbs live in Saxony and Brandenburg today, their numbers and settlement areas were, of course, considerably larger in the past. This is evidenced not only by personal names, but also by place names such as Bautzen, Cottbus, etc., as well as by many watercourse names. An important historical source for Sorbian personal names are the various written sources such as court records, church registers, etc., some of which date back to the 14th century......

informationsmittel-fuer-bibliotheken.de/showfile.php?id=8520

On the other hand....I have my doubt that Sorbs = Serbs!

Strong, nuclear Poland, would be an insurmountable obstacle on their way.

"Strong, nuclear, pro-western Poland"....I agree.

Just imagine a pro-russian Poland with Moscow's thumb on the button....

News / Nukes and Poland's Neutrality [105]

How would these nukes hinder a pro-russian gov in Warsaw to order pro-russian policies?

We would probably be Russian friendly, because why not?

.....because that's the crux of the matter, isn't it? Neutrality in this region means russian-friendly!

And right now that means Putin-friendly....with all that this entails.

Poland fears a russian-friendly Germany for good reasons.....a russian-friendly Poland wouldn't be much different for Polands neighbours, think about it.

News / Nukes and Poland's Neutrality [105]

a neutral Poland wouldn't be such threat.

Won't it?

Why wouldn't it......if a neutral Poland would be the only bloc on it's way to the rich grounds of western Europe?

Do you really think they will leave you alone? Not even manipulating their ways into a russian-friendly gov in Warsaw with a pro-russian foreign policy???

News / Nukes and Poland's Neutrality [105]

near impossible to go through and with nukes

Heh:) I had exactly that image in my mind too.... :)

But a Switzerland would find ways to keep its nukes and still its neutrality....such a ignorant and egoistical neighbour would find ways to negotiate a way through for the Red Army, maybe offer them their streets or such, that's the thing!
