Nope. Just was curious

If there is a national colour it seems to be a sort of mustard/yellow, which can be seen in villages as well as cities throughout Poland.

The colours do seem lmited to a small number of colours, but are used well. Shades of red, blue, yellow, green and brown.

Wroclaw's Rynek shows half a dozen colours that the city gave approval to

Language / Mixed English Grammar Thread [183]

I have got nothing to do with that. ... I haven't got anything to do with that

I have got nothing to do with it .... It has got

Careful: the above doesn't quite fit with your original ..... "Nothing of that sort"

'got' makes have/possession stronger.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

and to me they could just as easily be photos of a British football team/kids

for the sake of argument. mousey hair, backpack. obvious Polish stereotypes.

no school uniform might be another clue.

There are a lot of vegetarians in the UK. Do they smell different to the meat eaters?

they possibly do. Those with a heavy meat intake have a bad breath problem. it's something to do with digestion. i think.

we all know about garlic, for example, and how its odour can exit through the skin.

In truth though I doubt that even with this knowledge it would be the deciding factor in helping one to distinguish a Pole from a non-Pole.

eh, not trying to be picky but how the heck are "subtle" differences

Ok, you got me. However, I'm sure that you understand the post.

What defines a "real" difference?

folk may look a little different in pictures, but well travelled folk are more likely to recognize a subtle regional difference from simple things, such as a handshake or manner of greeting.

And the thread says we have flat heads, while isthatu2 thinks we have pointed heads. Make up your mind! :)

flat at the back, which results in more pointy

Did I say ALL Polish people have pointy heads? Nope.

There is a whole thread based on Polish head shape. Some non-Poles notice the difference, All Poles deny it.

easy, post a load of photos of people, let people guess their origin and turn this thread into a game.

1. No, because we've done it all before.

2. As has been pointed out, it is they way people carry themselves, move, talk etc that show any real difference.

What do you consider cheesy, maybe so picture?

i mean they are opposites, easy to distinguish.

Probably because there's no Polish look in fact.

I think there is, but it's down to fashion, hair and make-up.

Polish women and German women are as different, dress wise, as chalk and cheese. And this when they buy from the same chain store

UK, Ireland / Polish cities and their UK twins [19]

Could you attach some explanations why you associate each city with?

OK

Wroclaw and Newcastle are university cities

Wroclaw will be city of culture. Newcastle was once on the shortlist.

Wroclaw has brought itself out of the 80's. Newcastle dragged itself out of the seventies

Music and culture are important in both cities.

Football teams are each half way up the table

Katowice

I see Katowice as somewhere up north or in the Midlands. Birmingham maybe or Stoke

Wroclaw's difficult - maybe Bristol or Sheffield....not sure really.

As I'm familiar with both, I'd go with ...... Wroclaw .. Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
