More famous abroad in death than in life,

Worked for Malcom X.... a nobody in life whose 'autobiography' published over a half a year after he was murdered by rival black nationalists turned him into a saint....

How come 3500 have come in since the 6 went out?

The labour government believes that people in third world countries can't possibly be expected to run their own countries and the UK has a special burden to deal with their mess....

since they signed the deal with France, is 6 out and 3500 in.

I'm surprised they've gotten 6 out!

The problem is that this is a bi-partisan issue and both sides just want to blame the other.

Also both sides are stuck on an outdated narrative about how cool multiculturalism is and how the UK can welcome anyone! (there's more than a trivial amount of racism involved too as both sides essentially adhere to a new version of the White Man's Burden).

A new narrative is needed badly but both labor and tories are sniping at each other and ignoring the demands of the citizenry.

Can anyone give a concrete example of Charlie Kirk being mean or abusive to an interlocutor? Or of spouting hate or any of the other things he's charged with?

He was basically a paleo-conservative with views to match. I'm very far from being a paleo-conservative and am skeptical of its value in the current world, but in everything I've seen he's unfailingly kind and gentle with people he's talking to.

got his arse handed to him at both places

I should hope so!

Remember 'cutting sessions'? Jazz musicians would compete with each other in after hours meetings. You had to be top notch to take part at all and there was no dishonor in losing (wiho won and who lost would be very obvious to all present). Many famous players would relish times that the other players out did them.

So... any links to relevant parts of him being outdebated? Any evidence he was upset by that?

Anybody who'd heard of the Dublin mechanism knew

See? The Dublin mechanism collapsed years ago and anyone who doesn't realize that is retarded.

Do you happen to have any data to support the claim that more than 50% of migrants are criminals?

How many arrive without passports?

How many ngos coach them on what to say to bypass normal immigration rules?

What happens to

Their mere presence in the UK is evidence of criminal intent. What would happen to random Joe Blow with a passport who sails from Hoek van Holland to Harwich to get around UK immigration/border control?

What happens to Ahmed from Iraq who destroys his passport and uses his fake rehearsed spiel about how repressed he is at home?

Denial of that will not improve the situation.

people arriving on boats are a direct result of Farage persuaded just enough people

So Brexit made the UK a more attractive destination for would-be welfare grifters? Who knew?

The Migrant Crisis is the direct result of gormless Western European politicians who have not been paying attention for years.

At street level it's been a rolling disaster (in every possible way) for every country receiving them for many years and _still_ fartless wonders like Kier "duuuuuhhhh" Starmer don't want to be @rsed to actually do anything about it because it's not affecting them.

He either wants to the boats to continue or just doesn't care about UK finances and/or the victims of the criminal element among the migrants (ie most of them).

*throws royal idea into the bin*

royals with no legislative power can, in certain circumstances, be good for a country, the late Elizabeth II probably kept the country going and delayed absolute degradation that's going on now since the current monarch is... not really up to that job.

The King of Spain was a positive influence for decades.... and then he was a liability.

Scandinavian royals in general do more good than harm....

Figureheads are fine. But a monarch ruling (or semi-monarch like putin) is just a recipe for disaster.

My iron clad, undefeated rule: An active head of state should only be in office between 8 and 12 years (depending on the person and country). Any longer and they become alienated from the public and do stupid things.... so many retarded things come from people in office too long.

the idea of being stuck with an idiot for 30-40 years is a pretty scary one.

That's how russia has always been.... you've never worked out any rules for the orderly change of power.... always the tsar (or party secretary or whatever you call him at the moment) reigns until death or palace coup...

The only exception I can think of is Gorbachev who is loathed by most russians (because he didn't kill enough of you... russians' love for the leaders is in direct proportion for how many russians he kills.... are there any counter-examples?)

Well the current official russian view of WWII is that Poland started it by being mean to Germany.... and this latest tvrd that she dropped in public seems along the same line so I'm starting to take the idea seriously.

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 25 [874]

I remember how back in 2015 people were talking about how smart Germany was in taking in hundreds of thousands of culturally hostile foreigners every year... they were supposed to work miracles for the economy....

Now the German government says they have to raise the retirement age to 73 or the pension system will collapse...

They spend 47 billion euros on welfare every year, half of which goes to foreigners, only a tiny handful of which will ever be able to make a positive contribution to the German economy....

A sane country would start deportations and/or make remigration attractive (by making life miserable for workshy layabouts who can't even speak German).

But this is Germany so... none of that is possible.

Kirk spoke to people's frustrations, rather than their hopes!

You've never given any indication that you've actually listened to him speak at any length (as opposed to edited and massaged excerpts)

Anyone who can listen to half an hour or so (one go, not excerpts cobbled together) and find him objectionable is in political koo koo land.

almost single handedly destroyed Germany with her immigration policies

Her attack on the country was three-pronged...

kill nuclear power (massively stupid luddit move made on emotional impulse and/or pressure from addleheaded greens)

let in over a million people with no right to be in the country who must be financially supported and who can't be deported

made the country's economy entirely dependent on russia behaving like a civilized country and not.... well..... russia

Worst Chancellor ever (well maybe the Scholz the Feigling was worse)

Blame's not entirely hers as the German political establishment was all too willing to take russian money.....

Language / Polish slang phrases - most popular. [630]

correct form is "tę kobietę."

But many people say 'tą' and that's now considered acceptable in informal speech and maybe in informal writing (by Miodek or Bralczyk IIRC). New forms first enter speech as being 'incorrect' then are okay in casual speech and then eventually are accepted more broadly. That's how languages work.

What the hell is ;zjaramy sie?

I was responding to #605 which had the question: "how do u say "lets get high" as in smoking"

I offered a possible answer which people in Poland recognize and maybe some in Polonia don't.

I wouldn't say jarać się is slang, it's informal colloquial (potoczny) usage. I've heard it on Polish tv (including years ago).

slang tends to be restricted to groups (based on age or other factors) and tends to be very unstable

informal colloquial usage 'potoczny' is just that... how people speak informally and is much more durable and often leads to changes in what is considered correct

tą kobietę isn't slang but rather colloquial usage that is (very) slowly supplanting the official and more formal 'tę kobietę'

Normal language stuff.

Do you have much contact with modern Poland? It's not new at all (at least the use of jarać meaning 'get high' isn't new).

Exactly! You got me! I'm thinking trying heroin next week, if all goes well I'll add it to the list of mafketis-approved drugs....

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 25 [874]

a bunch of rich Westerners dumped a ton of weapons and cash on the Ukrainians

And they were right to do so! Ukrainians however imperfect the country are more western oriented than russians (with a better work ethic and more western values) and clearly want to be integrated into western structures and not kept behind in russian misery and backwardness....

And russia prepared poorly because it was operating under a delusion - that Ukrainians and russians are 'one people'.... a delusion that continues to kill

Let's look at another human safari video.... russians love watching Ukrainian civilians being hunted.... they post these videos daily on telegram and russians howl and cry for more....

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 25 [874]

We would have finished the job three years ago

No you would not..... the invasion itself was planned to decapitate the government and kill any public voice who dissented. That's why they took no fuel... they didn't think they'd need any.

putin, a stupid little cowardly figure, believe the @sslickers who told him russian troops would be welcomed.

He and russia have had numerous potential off ramps and they dismissed every one in favor of killing more Ukrainians and russian soldiers.

"The russian people" enthusiastically supported it then and now and deserve every bad thing that will happen to them.

People who make recreational substances illegal create the market.

The market is created by people who find reality intolerable and seek escape through mood altering substances.

Just to confirm, you yourself never touch alcohol

I'm addicted to caffeine (like lots of people) and enjoy an occasional drink or three (and have tried a few other lower end substances... years ago, mostly they did nothing for me).

The desire for altered experience is a basic human drive, but left to its own tends to be okay with occasional mild stimulants or relaxants.

Commercialized, it results in the narco wars in Northern Mexico and lots of people getting killed.

Anything you commercialize will grow and grow and become more extreme.

People take fentanyl because it's cheaper than smack

Commercialization...

Is it their fault that the illegality of the drug causes the criminal market and the issues that arise from it, however?

Yes.

Alcohol causes countless deaths

So why do we want to add to that number?

Marijuana and cocaine are pretty harmless in themselves

No they're not. Marijuana is not the mild relaxant it used to be in hippy days. Super potent strains created over the decades track with psychotic and violent behavior (see Berenson, A. for details).

The problem with cocaine is that's its an open-ended addiciton... the more cocaine a person does the more they want to do, there's no off switch.

And... legalizing narcotics just incentivizes criminals to come up with ever more potent concoctions.... (see fentanyl zombies).

Poland's alcohol culture is horrific - like the way heroin addicts are portrayed in Hollywood movies

You are several decades out of date. At the extremes it's a problem but nowhere near as large as it used to be. Alcohol and tobacco are enough, taking a softer stand toward harder drugs just leads to an escalation in addiction and ever increasing costs in making and distributing narcotics.

Think of the trail of broken and dead bodies that made your 'recreational' cocaine possible.

Every political union with Russians in it sooner or later changes into an authoritarian/totalitarian shithole.

russian values.... they don't include things like 'human life' 'individual rights' 'human dignity' it's all darwinian slaughter all the time

It's only Russia really.

The russian system (tiny group of elites mercilessly exploiting the majority who are expected to rejoice in their servitude) hasn't changed since the 19th century, the labels change but the system is still the same

It's probably incapable of change which is why it periodically collapses

News / Poland's aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 25 [874]

"Russia is finished" and "Russia is about to invade NATO"

russia can't do much more in Ukraine than it has now.... they might cause a nuclear melt down because they're going to try to hook up a nuclear reactor in Zaporizhzhia, and it will probably go wrong.... but militarily all they can do is target random civilian and infrastructure targets while the west shrugs and tries to pretend it didn't help the invasion happen (looking at you Deutschland!)

But russians have a taste for war... their is no competing narrative or explanation in russia and a large majority wants war for its own sake.

So they have to redirect their energies.... they can't accomplish much by a conflict with NATO but they can still do massive damage and kill lots of people (because that's what they want to do). Damage to the russian economy doesn't matter because nothing in russia is about the comfort or safety of citizens.....

It's like people haven't learned anything in the last three years....
