History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [871]

As there were always a 'difficulties' in communication between our countries (were there ever any communication platforms?) , I stated that there are no communication platform for Poles and Germans nowadays in my opinion.

Okay, then WHAT is a "communication platform" in your eyes?
Does Steinmeier visiting Sikorski in his private home count? Does the Weimar triangle count? What?

If they describes themselves as a Germans they are not Poles but Germans, sounds reasonably enough to you?

Nope...that's those about 3 millions who see themselves as Poles, hence Polonia.
There are so man polish surnames, so many 'skis in Germany, that's far more than only 3 millions...

That is why I put a census between pre-nazi and after-nazi Germans...

No you don't! Your

I just think that there is no communication platform for Poles and the Germans.

...was quite generally!

BTW: The second largest Polonia is in the UK.

Well...that is a quite recent development then! :)
But do you have numbers? Wiki says this:

Estimates for the total number of people living in the UK and born in Poland, or of Polish descent vary significantly. The figure has been quoted as 600,000 (February 2007)[10] and "well over a million" (October 2007),[11] but more recently it is reported that the numbers are decreasing.[12]

and

The second largest Polonia in the world, and the largest in Europe, is the Polish German community. As many as three million people living in Germany may be of Polish descent, although the vast majority of these identify themselves as Germans. The main Polonia organization is Kongres Polonii Niemieckiej / Polnischer Kongress in Deutschland. Polish surnames are very common in Germany.

Boy Rafal...our peoples live since millenias side by side, there is barely another peoples with so much interaction and mixing!

Lot's of Poles lived and live in Germany forever...ever heard of Klose and Podolski? And the coach of your successful handbal team learned the game in Germany and even played for the german national team before and that are just a few actual examples.

Polonia in Germany is the second largest in the world and the largest in Europe...it can't be all that bad, can't it!

Get a grip man!

I'm not killing anyone. I am just asking a questions...

No you don't!
You are talking all the time how you can't communicate with Germans...how will you ever find answers then? You are not interested in the first place, you prefer to wallow in generalizations and bombastic phrases, still seeing the modern Germany as Nazi state...remember our last discussion!

You said you "endured" one year in Hamburg but you have prejudices like someone who never set a foot into Germany. You are perfectly happy with the "bad Germans"!

I can't believe I was so wrong about you. You're so cute and delectable (I hope I'm tolerant and bright enough now ;-])

Well...it's never to late!

Funny thing: Whenever I met a German on the forum and someone mention a WWII topic all of them (Germans) swears that their predecessor were fighting against the regime.

You don't know many Germans, do you....till some years back resistance or deserters were seen as traitors in the broad german public, it's only changing slowly...well...with resistance as Stauffenberg anyhow....

Deserters have still a hard stand!

How old are you?

Not old enough to remember the war and I doubt you are!

As for Germans. We just don't understand each other, we don't have a 'common language' and I doubt we ever will.

Well, millions of Poles who came to Germany over the centuries, settled here and assimiliated might think differently...

It takes a special closed mind to hate whole peoples and to believe neighbours can't understand each other....you have a long way to go still!

Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]

Till you bring a link for this I rather tend to think your prof meant this study:
(and it's not talking about polish women)
independent.co.uk/news/science/the-face-of-the-future-why-eurasians-are-changing-the-rules-of-attraction-523076.html

...But new research appears to turn this theory on its head. Scientists now believe that people of mixed race, particularly Eurasians, possess certain genetic advantages that lead to greater health and, as a result, increased attractiveness.

Then there is that:
guardian.co.uk/science/2008/jul/22/sciencenews.psychology

Psychology: People in wealthy areas perceived to be most attractive

This:
telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechnology/science/sciencenews/3349823/Why-short-women-with-long-legs-are-the-most-attractive.html

Short women with long legs are the most naturally attractive to men, according to a new study.

And of course this:

Travel / Entering Poland from Germany on the A4 motorway [23]

Just wondering how you felt about Turks running businesses in Germany.

It ain't the quiet, industrious taxpayer running businesses who are a problem in Germany...

And you think they don't buy them now?

Erm...they can buy what and where they want.
But the business between Russia and Germany is excellent!
As long as they pay they get their goods - that's the market laws..
You should tell Ukraine about these basics sometimes!

and it is paradoxical that it's pinning it's hopes that in future such things will not happen, on a direct gas pipeline from Russia - Germany

Not "paradoxical" - logical!

I don't give a damn if Ukraine really paid or not

Well...that's the core of the whole bruhaha!
You should think about it before you start to throw around your political blames...

And the german doggies will obey...

Maybe we should then just cut off our negotiated delivery of german goods? :)

Because that's what this "leash" is about. They pay good money for "Made in
Germany
"!

Putin admitted that it was Russia who completely shut down the ukraine pipe.
So...any comments? from his faithful German lackeys, perhaps?

He didn't had anything to admit Rys...it was announced before that Russia would do it as it is their right.
You can't really expect an unpaid free ride for Ukraine, don't you?

Do they still dream that when they build their uber baltic pipe, it would protect them from anything?

Well...we would pay accordingly to the treaties so we would get our gas, it's actually a good thing for all sides concerned, ya know?

Russia is not trustworthy partner for any serious business

Remind me again...who is not paying???

Oh and Germany is Russias biggest trading partner in Europe..we make serious good business quite well, thank you!

Because if Russians shut down the pipe like this today, they can - and will - do it tommmorow. Anytime, anyplace, if only they find it advantageous for their imperialistic politics.

...or if you don't pay the negotiated price!

So...you want to say Ukraine paid???

What you can observe now is what happens when you depend only on russian gas...

Well...they have it....does Poland have something to sell?

Apropos Ukraine and the current gas row...just came about an interesting article:

spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,599796,00.html

If the author is right then the Ukraine isn't p*issing off Russia for the sake of it but they CAN'T pay...they just don't have the money!

Now that changes alot...if there isn't stupidity or maliciousness behind it but pure need than they should get help!

...The Ukrainian government and the state-controlled company Naftogaz have not been dragging their heels on paying Russia due to political motives, but rather because they simply don't have the money -- neither Naftogaz nor Ukraine itself.
The country is caught in a deep economic crisis.
The production of steel, its most important export, has already been reduced by a quarter. Now foreign currency reserves are shrinking, while inflation and unemployment are rising. Meanwhile companies are experiencing huge drops in revenues and profits....

They should have said so....

Hi, BB, ignorant as usual I see.

Ignorant? I wish...but it's really hard ignoring Ukraine warming herself with western european gas she never paid for!

The Nabucco pipeline is a planned natural gas pipeline that will transport natural gas from Turkey to Austria, via Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary

why Germany are against Nabucco pipe line which avoids Russia (goes throught Ukriane).

Ask Lukasz...

I have nothing against "Nabucco"...the more diversity the less chances to cut off dependent countries as it just happens because of the Ukraines fault.

Germany takes actually part in it already with RWE....
Problems may occure when Ukraine really joins the Nabucco project:

[blog.kievukraine.info/2007/01/ukraine-wants-in-on-nabucco-pipeline.html]

Ukraine Wants In On Nabucco Pipeline

en.rian.ru/world/20070117/59261130.html

Ukraine may join Nabucco pipeline bypassing Russia

KIEV, January 17 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's prime minister said Wednesday the government is considering bidding for a contract for the construction of a trans-Caspian pipeline to pump Central Asian natural gas to Europe, bypassing Russia.

Speaking in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Viktor Yanukovych said: "We will be actively involved in oil and gas projects wherever Ukraine's bids win. We will use our capacities and take part in projects like Nabucco."

Yeah sure...

Ukraine is mere victim of it

Maybe in your world...in the rest of the world not paying for a product is called THEFT!

There is Nabucco, there is South Stream, there will be Nord Stream - the more diversity the less dependancy on one pipeline only the better!

Well..I think the argument "Ukraine" will help the Nord Stream alot....:)

...The row between Gazprom and Kiev over the price of Russian gas has started to have a knock-on effect in Europe. Many countries, including Turkey, Bulgaria and Austria, are suffering major disruptions to their gas supplies...
